Chapter Ninety-Nine: Things Were Not as He Had Imagined
The black aura slipped silently into Xie Jinchuan’s body, arousing no suspicion from the man.
Only then did Rong Qiaoyi finally let out the breath she had been holding.
She looked at the man’s back, and the corners of her mouth lifted ever so slightly.
A deviation into madness.
Naturally, it was something she had done by seizing the moment to stir that vicious qi, which was why the man had come here of his own accord.
Still, the things on his body were surely seen clearly by Shen Qingli by now.
Thinking of this, Rong Qiaoyi’s lips curved faintly, the chill in her eyes deepening.
She muttered to herself, “Shen Qingli, you must have seen those things by now.”
“I wonder what you’re thinking.”
She had long since laid her plans.
Even if Shen Qingli had not come, she would have taken some intimate photos with Xie Jinchuan and then posted them online.
Either way, it would be extremely advantageous to her.
Just as she was wondering what expression Shen Qingli was wearing at that very moment, Rong Qiaoyi saw the man walking back toward her.
“I told you it wasn’t me.”
Frowning, she spoke with a look of earnestness in her eyes.
Xie Jinchuan gave Rong Qiaoyi a meaningful glance, then gathered spiritual power in his palm and pressed it over the woman’s shoulder.
“Ah.”
Rong Qiaoyi’s face changed at once, yet she could only pretend nothing was happening and put on an expression of enjoyment.
In truth, Xie Jinchuan’s pure spiritual power was, to her, no different from using raging fire to burn a demon alive.
After all, she was no longer a proper goddess, but a fallen deity.
Such pure spiritual power could not heal her wounds; it would only leave her injured a second time.
But Rong Qiaoyi could not allow the man before her to see the slightest thing. She could only endure it, and when he was done, she let out a long breath.
“I don’t owe you a favor. Your wounds should be mostly healed now.”
Xie Jinchuan left that sentence behind, too lazy to check Rong Qiaoyi’s injuries any further, and turned to leave.
Once he was gone, Rong Qiaoyi suddenly coughed up a mouthful of blood.
She looked even more miserable than before. Wiping the blood from the corner of her mouth, she exhaled shakily.
She immediately circulated her power to transform the pure spiritual energy within her body, and only then did her complexion improve somewhat.
“Damn it.”
She cursed under her breath, naturally thinking of the man’s expression just now.
Xie Jinchuan had grown suspicious of her, or else he would never have deliberately poured so much spiritual power into her.
“Xie Jinchuan, let me see what kind of miserable end you and Shen Qingli will have!”
She sneered, glancing at the few people still in a coma. With a wave of her hand, she dispelled the spell on them.
The group slowly woke up. Seeing the badly disheveled Rong Qiaoyi, they hurried forward with concern.
“Qiaoyi, are you all right?”
“Oh dear, Qiaoyi, look at what that little wretch Shen Qingli did to you.”
“Are you okay? Are you sure you’re okay?”
Looking at their hypocritical faces, a flash of coldness crossed Rong Qiaoyi’s eyes.
How utterly fake.
She gave a cold snort. “I’m fine. You should all head back quickly.”
Seeing that her mood was poor, the little starlets had no choice but to leave.
Their phones had all been soaked in water, so naturally they had no idea that the internet was now in an uproar because of the paid trolls they had bought.
...
Shen Qingli dragged her weary body back to the office, closed her eyes, and leaned against the chair.
But in the next second, the sight of the marks on Xie Jinchuan’s body surfaced in her mind.
Her eyes snapped open at once, frost gathering in them.
“Host, where did you go? Do you know I was worried sick? For a moment, our connection even cut out, and let me tell you...”
Green Cilantro darted out from the shadows and rushed toward its host, blinking up at her when it saw her troubled expression.
“Host, is someone bullying you?”
Green Cilantro’s words made Shen Qingli think of Xie Jinchuan once again. She raised a brow.
“Yes. Someone did bully me. Do you want to avenge me?”
At that, Green Cilantro puffed up its tiny chest.
“Host, just say who it was. I’ll definitely take revenge for you. I’ll beat him until he’s utterly defeated.”
Just as Green Cilantro was speaking with great enthusiasm, it heard the woman say leisurely, “Xie Jinchuan.”
“Go on, then. Beat him. Beat him until even his own mother wouldn’t recognize him.”
The moment Green Cilantro heard that, it instantly wilted.
Go beat an immortal lord?
Then he might as well just turn it back into a system. It did not want to court death. It truly did not.
“Host, if it’s him, then I really can’t win.”
“Why not pick someone else? If it’s someone else, I can definitely beat them.”
Shen Qingli looked thoughtfully at the white cat that Green Cilantro had become, and the corners of her mouth lifted slightly.
“If you can’t beat Xie Jinchuan, then how about beating Rong Qiaoyi?”
At that name, Green Cilantro deflated again.
It could not beat either of them.
“Forget it, Host. Just kill me.”
With that, Green Cilantro flicked its tail and flopped down in surrender.
Shen Qingli’s mood improved somewhat, but the image of Xie Jinchuan still would not leave her mind.
She suddenly slammed her hand on the desk and stood up, startling Green Cilantro into leaping upright.
“What is it? What is it?!”
“Nothing. Get to work!”
The stern look on Shen Qingli’s face broke at once into laughter. She scooped up Green Cilantro, took her bag, and headed out.
“President Shen, there are a lot of things that need to be reposted for the press conference.”
Dong Yang immediately brought over the latest information and said to the woman before him.
Thinking of how that day’s press conference had been forcibly halted because she had suddenly fainted, Shen Qingli felt a little guilty.
“No matter what conditions Director Wang proposes, do your best to satisfy them. But remember, we still have our bottom line.”
Hearing this, Dong Yang nodded.
“Also, Gu Qingming has taken on another variety show. This one is a little unusual, and you may need to go with him.”
Looking at Dong Yang’s expression, Shen Qingli raised a brow, instinctively feeling that it was probably not a good show.
Then she saw the contract he handed over, with its bright pink cover, and the corner of her mouth twitched.
“Didn’t I tell you to cut this show outright?”
That pink cover was all too familiar to Shen Qingli.
If nothing unexpected happened, it had to be that dating show, the one where ordinary people and celebrities were paired up to fall in love.
Before, because of her and Gu Qingming, they had once sent her a contract and invited her directly.
She had rejected it flatly.
But she had never expected the wheel of fortune to turn so absurdly. The contract had actually come back into her hands, and Gu Qingming had even signed it on his own.
“Contact Gu Qingming and ask for the details.”
