Chapter 80: Suspicion
But Xie Jinchuan shot her a glance and said, “My affairs are none of your concern. In the future, unless it’s something important, don’t come looking for me!”
Rong Qiao watched the figures of Xie Jinchuan and Shen Qingli, one ahead and one behind, and felt indignant.
Why could it only be Shen Qingli? Couldn’t Xie Jinchuan turn around and see how good she was to him?
She was the only one in this world who truly loved him!
Shen Qingli waited at the company entrance for Xie Jinchuan. When she saw him, she merely said, “Let’s go,” without mentioning anything else or asking any questions.
This was completely different from how she used to be, and it made Xie Jinchuan a little uneasy.
He told himself he was doing all this for her own good. Surely, when she found out the truth, she would understand.
Shen Qingli had driven herself to the office, so she didn’t get into Xie Jinchuan’s car. Instead, without any sense of shame, Xie Jinchuan went straight to her passenger seat.
“What are you doing?” Shen Qingli frowned at him as he got in, but he replied calmly, “Going back to the old house.”
“Don’t you have a car of your own? Am I your chauffeur now?” Shen Qingli sneered. “Xie Jinchuan, you really do think too highly of yourself.”
“We’re both heading back anyway. It makes no difference.”
No matter what she said, Xie Jinchuan refused to budge.
Lively Parsley quickly spoke up for Xie Jinchuan in her mind, “Host, since you have to go back anyway, and you have things to do tonight, you might as well just pick up your stuff and leave quickly.”
Though the words were for Xie Jinchuan’s sake, they did make sense. There was no need to waste words on a man; it would only waste time.
Just then, Shen Qingli’s phone rang at an inopportune moment. She answered, and the eager voice on the other end immediately asked, “Sister Shen, are you free tonight?”
It was Gu Qingming.
Xie Jinchuan’s lips tightened into a sharp line, his eyes cold and piercing.
He could easily guess what Gu Qingming felt toward Shen Qingli.
“Yes, I’m free. Why?” she replied, shifting the handbrake as she spoke.
The car slowly pulled away as Gu Qingming invited her to dinner that night, and Shen Qingli didn’t refuse.
“I’ll send you the time and place then, see you tonight, Sister Shen!”
After he hung up, Shen Qingli seemed in a noticeably better mood, even humming a little tune.
Xie Jinchuan, feeling jealous, couldn’t help but ask, “Are you very close to Gu Qingming?”
Otherwise, why would he call her Sister Shen?
And after returning to the country, the very first thing he did was come to Shen Qingli’s company. For a singer trying to establish himself domestically, that was practically unheard of.
Shen Qingli glanced at him but didn’t give a clear answer, since she wasn’t sure herself.
“That’s none of your business, President Xie. It’s my private matter.”
Ever since the incident with Ye Qingqing, when he drove her out, her attitude toward him had grown increasingly cold. She had even ordered Lively Parsley not to speak to him.
If it weren’t for the fact that Lively Parsley was constantly monitored while Shen Qingli slept, she would have tried to eliminate its presence the moment she discovered it.
That would not be a good thing for him.
“Fine, I won’t ask anymore,” Xie Jinchuan said, lowering his gaze. His heart ached like it was being pricked by needles, but this was the path he had chosen, and no one else was to blame.
Seeing him like this, Lively Parsley also felt a twinge of pity.
Ah, nothing to be done. She could only say a few good words for him when the immortal wasn’t around.
When they arrived at the old house, the butler was startled to see Shen Qingli. He had no idea why she had suddenly come back today.
He was even more uncertain whether or not he should let her in.
But when he saw Xie Jinchuan get out of the passenger seat, he understood that the two had come back together.
He had always liked Shen Qingli; at home, she never made trouble or made things difficult for them. She was always understanding and considerate.
It was just a pity—he didn’t know what had happened, but suddenly the two were divorced.
“Miss Shen, young master,” he greeted, many emotions welling up inside him.
Only a few days ago he had still called her “madam,” but now he had to change the address.
Xie Jinchuan glanced at the butler. He too thought it was a pity.
Shen Qingli nodded to the butler and headed upstairs to her room.
These days, it seemed Xie Jinchuan hadn’t come back much; the housekeepers had cleaned the rooms, so her things were still there, untouched.
Xie Jinchuan followed behind her, watching as she packed up her clothes. He felt increasingly uncomfortable.
This home had still carried a trace of her presence, but now that she was moving out, it would all be gone.
Shen Qingli had placed a mirror in the room to check her appearance; now, through the reflection, she saw Xie Jinchuan’s lips pressed into a razor-sharp line.
She suppressed the sourness welling up in her chest and said to him, “I’ll take these clothes with me for now. Is there anything else I should take?”
She looked up at him, her gaze clear and unclouded.
Xie Jinchuan clenched his back teeth, his fists tight.
He couldn’t understand why she was in such a hurry to leave. Could it be that she really had feelings for Gu Qingming?
The thought made him even more unsettled, jealousy nearly spilling over.
“There shouldn’t be anything else,” he managed.
Hearing this, Shen Qingli nodded carelessly and headed out.
Xie Jinchuan quickly grabbed her hand. She glanced down at it, and he immediately let go, feigning indifference as he said, “There are too many clothes. Let me find you a box. Otherwise, it’ll be hard to carry.”
“No need, the butler can find one for me. You don’t have to trouble yourself.”
As if she couldn’t wait to draw the line between them.
Xie Jinchuan pressed his lips together but said nothing more, simply instructing the butler to fetch a clean box for her clothes.
The butler watched as Shen Qingli emptied her things from the closet; what had once been packed full was now half empty.
The house suddenly felt much colder.
He feared the young master would spend even more nights at the office from now on and never come home.
The butler sighed helplessly and asked Shen Qingli, “Miss Shen, would you like some help?”
“No, I can manage on my own. Thank you for your trouble.”
She carried the box downstairs. The butler shot Xie Jinchuan a look of disappointment.
Why didn’t the young master try to do something at a time like this?
Shen Qingli put the box in her trunk and drove away.
Xie Jinchuan lost his appetite entirely. The butler, a little resentful, asked, “Young master, what would you like for dinner?”
He had watched Xie Jinchuan grow up, and the young man had always been likable—except in this matter, which was truly disappointing.
With his looks and his family background, how could he still fail to win a woman’s heart?
