Chapter Thirty-Seven: Is Xie Jinchuan Really Not the Reincarnation of an Immortal Lord?
When Secretary Zhao hurried out, she saw the company’s senior shareholders and founding members surrounding Xie Jinchuan, all talking at once in an attempt to persuade him.
“President Xie, are you feeling better? When will you come back to the company? You’re the backbone of Lu Corporation! Without you, none of us feel at ease!”
“That’s right! Without you, Jinchuan, Lu Corporation simply can’t go on!”
“Some projects have come to a halt—what’s your plan, President Xie?”
Besieged by these shareholders’ clamor, Xie Jinchuan could only smile wryly. It seemed Lu Ziyi had truly reached the point where everyone was fed up with him; look at how desperate they were!
He glanced back at his office, the corners of his mouth lifting as he replied in his cool, clear voice, “My nephew is in charge of the company now. If you have any issues, discuss them with him! He’s told me to go home and enjoy my retirement.”
At this, the senior shareholders grew even more agitated. Letting Lu Ziyi, that muddleheaded fool, run the company? That would be the end of them all—their investments would be lost, and he’d do nothing but give reckless orders.
“President Xie, Lu Corporation is your life’s work! President Lu really isn’t suited to management. Please come back as soon as you can!”
“Yes, exactly!”
“President Xie, all the company veterans miss you dearly. Please return!”
“President Xie, can you truly bear to watch the company destroyed?”
They pleaded with him, urging Xie Jinchuan to stay.
No one cared if Lu Ziyi overheard; working under him meant certain bankruptcy sooner or later. They were already on the verge of quitting—why should they care about his feelings anymore?
Standing in his office, Lu Ziyi felt as if those voices were stabbing into his heart like sharp thorns, each word a slap across his face.
During his own tenure, the people inside the company wanted nothing more than to drive him out and bring Xie Jinchuan back. It was the ultimate humiliation!
And these were the company’s veteran shareholders—they couldn’t be scolded or dismissed. The frustration choked him, leaving him unable to breathe.
Today, he had lost all dignity. Clenching his teeth, Lu Ziyi’s resentment toward Xie Jinchuan intensified yet again.
His gaze fell on Shen Jingrong, who was standing there, and a trace of bitterness crept into his voice. “Jingrong, what’s wrong with your father? Today I’ve lost all face!”
Seeing Lu Ziyi’s dark expression, Shen Jingrong immediately clung to his arm, acting coquettishly. “It’s not my fault, Ziyi! How was I supposed to know my father would mess up the contract? Don’t be mad~”
After Shen Jingrong worked her charms, Lu Ziyi, ever the fool for beauty, was finally appeased.
Still, Shen Jingrong felt a pang of disappointment—so this was the man she had so carefully chosen? He wasn’t much at all.
He couldn’t even make a decision on such a trivial matter; in the end, Xie Jinchuan’s single comment had swept his authority aside.
How useless!
Leaning against Lu Ziyi’s chest, Shen Jingrong gritted her teeth in secret. She would have to take another path.
If Lu Ziyi was worthless, she would have to set her sights on Xie Jinchuan. There was no way she would lose to that wretched Shen Qingli.
Why should everything good fall to her?
Xie Jinchuan was hers for the taking.
Neither Xie Jinchuan nor Shen Qingli had any inkling of Shen Jingrong’s schemes. After leaving the company, the two of them went straight home.
The persuasion of those senior shareholders had ended without any commitment from Xie Jinchuan.
Shen Qingli, curious, asked, “Are you really not going back?”
Xie Jinchuan’s eyes were deep, his voice low. “There’s no rush. They’ll beg me to return. I’m waiting for a phone call.”
Shen Qingli cast him a strange look—what was with this mysterious act?
“Cai Cai, are you sure Xie Jinchuan isn’t some immortal in disguise?”
[No, definitely not.]
The system, sweating bullets, answered Shen Qingli’s question. Why did it always feel like it was on the verge of being exposed?
Fortunately, Shen Qingli didn’t seem to expect a real answer and dropped the topic. Otherwise, the system truly wouldn’t know what to say.
Lu Ziyi struggled on for a few more days at the company, but everywhere he went, he met with grumbling and resentment.
They feared a foolish ally more than a formidable enemy!
Someone like Lu Ziyi, who knew nothing yet insisted on wielding power, provoked unanimous resistance from the company’s veterans.
In the end, the issue escalated all the way to Old Master Lu.
With the veteran shareholders united in their pressure, there was no choice but to demand Xie Jinchuan’s return as manager—or they would resign and withdraw their shares.
Old Master Lu, having no other options, called Xie Jinchuan to make amends.
At that moment, Xie Jinchuan had just finished dinner with Shen Qingli when his phone rang.
With a smile, Xie Jinchuan said to Shen Qingli, “Here comes the call.”
Shen Qingli, still puzzled, ignored him and continued eating her fish while Xie Jinchuan stepped aside to answer.
“Hello?”
“Jinchuan, how’s your health?” Old Master Lu’s voice was gentle over the line.
Xie Jinchuan raised his brows—was this the soft approach? “Much better. What’s the matter?”
“Oh, the senior shareholders all hope you’ll return to take charge of the company soon!”
“But last time I checked, Ziyi told me to retire,” Xie Jinchuan replied coolly.
Old Master Lu’s mouth twitched; he wanted nothing more than to wring his ungrateful grandson’s neck. Such reckless words, leaving no way out for anyone. “Jinchuan, you know what Ziyi is like. Just treat his words as nonsense. The company’s a mess right now—you wouldn’t want to see the enterprise you built up destroyed, would you?”
Xie Jinchuan’s voice was indifferent. “It makes no difference to me. The company’s surname is Lu, not Xie.”
Hearing this, Old Master Lu knew Xie Jinchuan was digging in his heels. He could only humble himself further, “Jinchuan, I’m begging you as your grandfather—please come back and help me.”
“There’s also that new project underway. It’s already started construction, but there seem to be some problems. Ziyi isn’t up to handling it. Please look into it when you come back. Securing that piece of land was no small feat, and the project is under a lot of scrutiny. We can’t afford any negative fallout.”
“Fine, I understand. Tell my nephew to clear his junk out of my office. If he doesn’t, I’ll throw it out myself.”
“Alright, alright!” Old Master Lu agreed eagerly. As long as Xie Jinchuan agreed to return, he’d throw Lu Ziyi out himself if need be.
After hanging up, Old Master Lu felt nothing but bitterness. He spent every day cleaning up after that foolish grandson. Useless!
He’d even let a woman manipulate him!
With that, he immediately called Lu Ziyi.
“Grandpa, what is it? I’m busy!” Lu Ziyi answered.
“Busy? Busy with what? Busy running the company into the ground, I suppose!”
“Grandpa, what are you talking about? Has someone been telling tales on me?” Lu Ziyi lounged in Xie Jinchuan’s office, with Shen Jingrong massaging his shoulders, living the life.
Old Master Lu’s anger flared on the other end. “Break up with that Shen Jingrong immediately—she’s scheming against you!”
“Impossible! Last time was just a mistake—her father only misprinted a document, that’s all.”
“You... You’ll be the death of me! Pack up your things from your uncle’s office—he’s coming back tomorrow. And you’d better behave yourself from now on and stop causing trouble!”
Old Master Lu thought that after so many years, the fact he hadn’t had a heart attack from this unfilial grandson was proof of his robust health.
Useless at everything, but always first to drag others down!
