Chapter 8: Wrongly Accused
“It’s like this. The project you discussed with our company has been approved. When you have time, come over and we’ll sign the contract.”
“Alright, alright, thank you, Secretary Tao, for personally calling. See you soon.”
After hanging up, Huang Yu’s face was alight with excitement, his arms waving about, unable to contain his joy.
The other employees, seeing Huang Yu’s reaction, were a bit confused and couldn’t help but smile.
“Director Huang, was that Secretary Tao from Evergrand Group who just called? What did she say?”
“Yes, yes, Director Huang, tell us quickly!”
“We’ve gone to them so many times before and they never agreed. Why did they take the initiative to call us this time? Are they really going to cooperate with our company?”
Within moments, everyone in the office put down their work and started asking questions.
“Haha, that’s right, comrades! Evergrand Group has finally agreed to work with us,” Huang Yu said, his face full of elation.
Just then, Ye Feng returned from the restroom, amused by Huang Yu’s antics. “Director Huang, did you receive Secretary Tao’s call? She must’ve told you about the contract, right?”
At Ye Feng’s words, Huang Yu’s face changed instantly, and the others were stunned.
“This useless guy wasn’t even here—how did he know?”
“Isn’t it obvious? He must’ve been eavesdropping!”
“He said earlier that one phone call would settle it. Could it really be that Evergrand Group agreed to cooperate just because of his call?”
The murmurs around reached Huang Yu’s ears, and his face turned a deep shade of red. He thought to himself, “He wasn’t here just now. How did he know Secretary Tao called me about the contract? Could it really be his doing?”
Ye Feng walked up to Huang Yu, patted him on the shoulder, and said, “Director Huang, shouldn’t you let me have your position now?”
Huang Yu’s face went pale, regretting the bet he’d made and immediately trying to back out, “That wager doesn’t count. The director’s position isn’t for you or me to decide! Besides, whether it was you who sealed the deal still needs to be investigated.” With that, he turned and hurried away.
Soon it was time to leave work.
As Ye Feng reached the traffic lights near the company, he unexpectedly spotted Meng Qing sitting in a black Mercedes. He couldn’t tell if she was drunk or had been drugged. If something happened, what then? She was best friends with Manman and had also given him a job, so he flagged down a taxi and secretly followed.
The Mercedes stopped in front of a five-star hotel. A man got out, carrying Meng Qing inside. Ye Feng quickly pulled out a hundred-yuan bill and rushed after them.
Inside the hotel room.
A sleazy-looking man carefully placed Meng Qing on the bed. Admiring the beauty before him, his eyes glimmered with greed. His yellowed teeth flashed as he said, “Little beauty, you’ve finally fallen into my hands. Soon you’ll know what it feels like to be in paradise.”
At that moment, Meng Qing lay on the bed, her cheeks flushed crimson, her lips a vivid red, tempting enough to make anyone want to steal a kiss.
Just as the sleazy man stripped naked and was about to undress Meng Qing, a loud bang interrupted him.
He turned to see a stranger kick the door open. It was Ye Feng, who had followed him.
“Who are you? Bastard, who gave you permission to come in?” The sleazy man’s eyes were fierce, grabbing a bedsheet to cover himself, his gaze murderous.
“If you leave now, I’ll pretend nothing happened and let you go.”
“Kid, do you know who I am? How dare you meddle with me—I see you’re tired of living!”
“I gave you a chance, and you didn’t take it. Don’t blame me for not warning you,” Ye Feng said, his expression darkening as he approached.
“What... what are you doing? I warn you not to do anything rash!” The sleazy man’s arrogance vanished, replaced by panic.
Ye Feng didn’t waste words. He punched the man in the face, then kicked him in the stomach, sending him flying.
The pain was so intense the man couldn’t utter a word. Four or five teeth fell from his mouth, and he mumbled, “Kid, if you’ve got guts, don’t leave!”
With that, he fled in panic.
Ye Feng saw that Meng Qing’s face was an abnormal shade of red—she’d clearly been drugged. The effects were kicking in, and she kept murmuring, “So hot, so hot…” Her hands were busy undressing herself.
Ye Feng, startled, quickly covered his eyes and muttered, “I am a monk, I am a saint.”
He took out a pea-sized pill and placed it in Meng Qing’s mouth. The medicine soon took effect; she stopped undressing, her face gradually returned to normal, and she slowly regained consciousness.
Opening her eyes to unfamiliar surroundings, she saw Ye Feng sitting beside her, then noticed her disheveled clothing. Thinking Ye Feng had tried to assault her, she slapped his handsome face and, clutching her chest, fled in a panic.
Ye Feng, bewildered, walked out. He was the one who’d come to the rescue—how did he end up getting slapped? Rubbing his cheek, he thought, “I hope it doesn’t swell. If Manman sees, she’ll surely misunderstand.”
As he thought, he walked to the roadside, hailed a taxi, and sped home.
…
Inside the Su family villa.
Ye Feng opened the door and immediately saw Su Manman and Meng Qing sitting on the sofa. Su Manman was comforting the crying Meng Qing. At this sight, Ye Feng thought to himself, “There’s no way to explain this now.”
Both women looked up at the sound. Su Manman’s eyes were wide with anger, while Meng Qing’s were red from crying.
“Ye Feng, get over here!” Su Manman yelled through gritted teeth.
Ye Feng walked over, sneaking a glance at Meng Qing and keeping his head down.
Seeing Ye Feng’s attitude, any affection Su Manman had for him evaporated. She shouted, “Ye Feng, I told you to go to work, and you tried to assault Meng Qing, doing something so vile. Have you no shame?”
Meng Qing continued to sob quietly beside her.
Ye Feng knew there must be a misunderstanding and hurried to explain. “Manman, it’s not what you think. Let me explain.”
“Explain? What is there to explain? Explain how you drugged Meng Qing and took her to a hotel?” Su Manman slapped him, her voice growing louder.
Not long before, Su Manman had been dealing with a matchmaking meeting when she received Meng Qing’s call. Hearing that Ye Feng had tried to assault Meng Qing, she abandoned her date and rushed home.
Su Manman was utterly disappointed in Ye Feng.
But Ye Feng had no idea what Su Manman had done for him. After living together for three years, they didn’t even have the most basic trust, not even a chance for him to explain. He felt disheartened and turned to leave.
Su Manman watched Ye Feng leave without looking back, furious, and shouted at his departing figure, “Ye Feng, if you walk out that door today, don’t bother coming back!”
Ye Feng didn’t hesitate for a moment and left.
Su Manman, seeing Ye Feng’s resolute departure, deflated like a burst balloon, collapsing onto the sofa.
Meng Qing said nothing, gently patting Su Manman’s back.
Suddenly, the silence was broken by a ringing phone. Meng Qing saw the caller was Miaomiao, her assistant, and answered.
“Hello, President Meng, where are you right now?” came a frantic female voice.
“Miaomiao, I’m at Manman’s house. Is something wrong?” Meng Qing asked, confused but still answered.
Lin Miaomiao breathed a sigh of relief. “As long as you’re safe. Are you free right now? I have something to talk to you about.”
Meng Qing glanced at Su Manman, who nodded. She replied, “Alright, come over.”
Lin Miaomiao was Meng Qing’s assistant. They had a good relationship, and since Miaomiao often accompanied Meng Qing, she also knew Su Manman and her address.
Lin Miaomiao drove toward Su Manman’s home.
