Chapter 24: Seeing Through the Deceitful Woman
Evergrande Group.
In the company’s reception room sat a woman with a devilishly alluring figure. Her voluminous wavy hair cascaded over her shoulders, and her long, slender legs were accentuated by a short, pale yellow skirt that highlighted her flawless physique.
“Why isn’t he here yet?” Shen Meng muttered anxiously.
Ye Feng arrived at the company and, passing by the reception room, stole a glance through the window. He was taken aback—why was she here? Could it be that the person seeking him was Shen Meng?
He entered his office, sat down, and pressed a shortcut key. “Secretary Tao, come in for a moment.”
Knock, knock, knock.
Ye Feng looked up at the sound. “Come in.”
Secretary Tao stepped inside. “Chairman Ye, is there something you need?”
“I need you to notify the chairman of Tianhao Limited and ask him to come over. Tell him there are some matters regarding our cooperation that we need to discuss. When he arrives, bring him straight to my office.” A faint smile played at Ye Feng’s lips.
“Understood. By the way, Chairman Ye, what about the lady in the reception room?” Secretary Tao inquired.
“Let her wait. If she asks, just tell her I’m in a meeting.”
“Yes, Chairman Ye.” Secretary Tao turned and left to call the chairman of Tianhao.
“Chairman Si, hello, this is Secretary Tao from Evergrande Group,” she said in a professional tone.
“Hello, Secretary Tao.” Si Xu, who received the call, was puzzled—why was Evergrande calling him?
“It’s like this, Chairman Si. Our chairman has some contractual matters to discuss with you. Are you available to come by now?” Secretary Tao conveyed Ye Feng’s instructions.
“All right, I’ll come right over.” Si Xu hung up and hurried out.
…
Ye Feng glanced at the time, calculating that his good friend Si Xu should soon arrive. He then told Secretary Tao to bring Shen Meng in.
“Miss, our chairman is waiting for you in his office,” Secretary Tao said to Shen Meng in the reception room.
“All right. Take me there,” Shen Meng replied, her expression haughty.
Secretary Tao felt a flicker of annoyance but, maintaining her professional composure, offered a slight smile. “This way, please.”
She led Shen Meng to the chairman’s office. “This is Chairman Ye’s office. Please go in yourself.” With that, Secretary Tao turned and left.
Standing at the door, Shen Meng tidied her hair, took out a mirror from her bag, and nodded at her own flawless reflection. She was confident in her looks, certain that no man could resist her charms. As long as she beckoned, the chairman of Evergrande would surely be at her command—for, after all, all men were weak before beauty.
Knock, knock, knock. Shen Meng rapped on the door.
“Come in!” Ye Feng deliberately lowered his voice.
He knew Shen Meng recognized him and didn’t want her to realize his identity just yet, lest she spoil his plans.
“Chairman Ye, you kept me waiting so long,” Shen Meng cooed coquettishly.
Hearing her voice, Ye Feng felt goosebumps break out all over.
“Chairman Ye, I’ve come to see you about something. If you don’t turn around, how are we supposed to talk?” Shen Meng stepped closer, leaning on the desk and pulling her already low neckline even lower.
“What could you possibly want from me? We don’t seem to know each other,” Ye Feng replied, voice still lowered.
“Let me introduce myself. I am the girlfriend of the chairman of Tianhao Limited—Shen Meng,” she announced smugly, as if she herself were the chairman.
“Oh? So what brings you here?”
“If I remember correctly, it was Evergrande who approached Tianhao for cooperation. Now, I am announcing the termination of all cooperation with you!” Shen Meng flashed a wicked smile.
“I’m afraid that’s not your decision to make,” Ye Feng replied coolly, spinning his chair to face her.
“Of course—” Shen Meng froze mid-sentence when she saw his face. It was Si Xu’s good friend, Ye Feng. She was so stunned she forgot what she meant to say.
She hadn’t expected Ye Feng to be here. Could he really be the chairman of Evergrande?
“What are you doing here?” she demanded coldly, unable to hide her shock.
Why was Ye Feng here? Was he really the chairman? Or was he just pretending? That couldn’t be—he’d told Si Xu he was just a junior salesman!
How could he suddenly be the chairman of Evergrande? Or was he impersonating the chairman? He was just a fraud!
She shook her head, frustration and anger twisting her features.
“Oh? You don’t believe me?” Ye Feng found her disbelief amusing.
“What proof do you have that you’re the chairman and not a fake?” Shen Meng insisted.
Ye Feng walked to his desk and pressed a shortcut key. “Secretary Tao, bring me a cup of coffee.”
“Yes, Chairman Ye,” came Secretary Tao’s sweet voice.
Hearing Secretary Tao address him as “Chairman,” Shen Meng felt as though thunder had struck. Her legs buckled and she barely managed to steady herself on the back of a chair.
“You really are the chairman of Evergrande?”
“Then why did you tell Si Xu you were just a lowly salesman?”
“Was Si Xu lying to me all along, deliberately misleading me?”
Whether out of anger or from the shock, Shen Meng’s face turned ugly and almost contorted.
Secretary Tao entered, delivered the coffee, and was about to leave when Ye Feng stopped her. “Is he here?”
Secretary Tao was briefly confused, then realized Ye Feng meant if Chairman Si had arrived, and nodded. “He’s here.”
“Good. Let him wait outside for a moment.”
“Yes, Chairman Ye.” With that, she turned and left.
Seeing Secretary Tao come in, Shen Meng could no longer doubt Ye Feng’s identity. A plan formed in her mind.
“Ye Feng, if you promise me to terminate cooperation with Si Xu, I’ll agree to any one condition you ask,” she said, striding up to him and deliberately rubbing her ample chest against his arm.
“So that’s why you came?” Ye Feng pushed her away in disgust.
“That’s right. As long as you agree, I’ll spend the night with you. Isn’t that an offer no man could refuse?” Shen Meng smiled seductively, wrapping her pale arms around his neck, their faces so close they could feel each other’s breath.
“Si Xu, I trust you’ve heard everything.” Ye Feng pried her off and called in Si Xu, who had been standing outside the door.
Expressionless, Si Xu entered, staring at the woman he loved most. His fists clenched so hard his knuckles cracked.
The sudden appearance of Si Xu threw Shen Meng into utter panic. She pointed at Ye Feng, voice trembling with anger, “Ye Feng, you set me up!”
Ye Feng snorted, then turned to Si Xu. “Brother, I’ll let you decide how to deal with this ruthless woman.”
Si Xu’s heart was already shattered. He had never imagined the woman he loved would scheme against him like this, even offering herself to achieve her goals. Disappointment clouded his face.
Without thinking, Shen Meng dropped to her knees in front of Si Xu, clutching his leg and gazing up at him through a veil of tears.
“Si Xu, I beg you, let me go. Remember, when you were at your lowest, I was the one by your side. Please, forgive me this once. I had no choice—if I didn’t do this, my mother wouldn’t have money for her treatment. I can’t just watch her die in front of me.”
Shen Meng knew Si Xu was a filial son. His mother had been too ill to care for him as a child and sent him to an orphanage. She always used his mother’s illness as an excuse to ask for money, and he never refused. This time was no different—mention his mother, and his heart would soften.
And she was right. At her mention of his mother, Si Xu’s resolve wavered. “Go. I don’t want to see you again.”
“Thank you, Si Xu. Thank you.” Hearing his words, Shen Meng wiped away her tears, scrambled to her feet, and ran out the door without looking back. No one noticed the flash of malice in her eyes.
Ye Feng, seeing Si Xu let her go, knew his friend’s heart had softened. He could only shake his head helplessly.
