Chapter 27
The two officers were immediately struck with terror and disbelief! Never in their wildest dreams had they expected that Chu Tianhe would turn out to be a practitioner of ancient martial arts.
In the Great Xia, officers were tasked only with routine cases. They were not trained in the ancient arts, nor did they possess the means to apprehend such individuals. Whenever a case involved ancient martial artists, protocol dictated that they notify the War Department, so the Divine Guard could be dispatched to handle the matter.
“So what if he’s an ancient martial artist? Does that give him license to commit murder in broad daylight?” Chen Ming’s voice rang out, harsh and unyielding. Upon seeing the martial restraint ring on Chu Tianhe’s wrist, he paused for a moment in surprise, but quickly regained his composure and barked, “I don’t care who he is. If a crime is committed on my turf, it falls under my jurisdiction!”
“Take him back for questioning first—we’ll hand him over to the War Department later!”
Chen Ming would never let such a golden opportunity slip through his fingers. No matter what, he was determined to bring Chu Tianhe back to the Security Bureau and give him a proper ‘welcome.’ Unless he broke a few of Chu Tianhe’s ribs, he would not be satisfied.
Faced with Chen Ming’s uncompromising stance, the two officers hesitated, concern written all over their faces. “Captain Chen, this… this isn’t in line with regulations, is it?”
“I am the regulations!” Chen Ming exploded, his temper flaring as he glared at them. “What if he escapes before the War Department arrives? How will you answer for that?”
“He’s wearing a martial restraint ring—what are you afraid of? If he dares to resist, I’ll put a bullet in his head myself!”
With those words, Chen Ming drew his pistol, loaded a round, and aimed it squarely at Chu Tianhe’s forehead.
“I’d love nothing more than for him to resist. Go on, just try it!” Chen Ming sneered, brandishing his weapon with brazen arrogance. Chu Tianhe’s brow furrowed at the sight. He had nothing but contempt for the likes of Chen Ming, yet upon seeing the terror in Yao Yao’s and Yang Huijuan’s eyes, he restrained himself. He could not bear to frighten them any further.
“Very well, you wish to take me to the Security Bureau?” Chu Tianhe said calmly. “I’ll go with you. But mark my words—you may come to regret it.”
So saying, Chu Tianhe offered his hands without resistance, allowing the two officers to snap the cuffs onto his wrists.
“Papa… Papa, don’t go! Don’t leave Yao Yao behind!” Yao Yao burst into tears, clutching desperately at Chu Tianhe’s leg, refusing to let him leave.
Yang Huijuan, face etched with sorrow, looked at Chu Tianhe in despair, her voice trembling. “Tianhe, why must you be so reckless? You’ve only just come home. If something truly happens, what will become of Yao Yao?”
“Be good, Yao Yao. Go home with Grandma for now. Daddy’s just going for a cup of tea—he’ll be back soon.” Chu Tianhe crouched down, gently patting Yao Yao’s head, his face softened by a gentle smile.
“Don’t worry, Auntie. That man will live—my strikes were measured,” Chu Tianhe added, offering Yang Huijuan a reassuring smile. “I’ll explain everything to the officers—it’ll be fine.”
“‘It’ll be fine after a little explanation?’” Before Yang Huijuan could respond, Chen Ming let out a derisive snort, his tone dripping with sarcasm. “Do you really think the Security Bureau belongs to your family, Chu Tianhe?”
“Brawling in public, resulting in death… I’ll see to it that you rot in prison for the rest of your life!” A vicious glint flashed in Chen Ming’s eyes, and his words were laced with malice.
“Captain Chen, that man… he’s not dead. His ribs are shattered, but he’s still breathing. If he gets to the hospital, he should pull through,” one of the officers hurriedly whispered from behind.
“If I say he’s dead, then he’s dead. Understand?” Chen Ming spun around, eyes wide with fury.
“Yes! Understood!” The two officers nodded frantically, startled.
“He’ll die on the way to the Security Bureau. Is that clear?”
“Crystal clear!” The officers knew full well that Chen Ming intended to finish the job, ensuring that Chu Tianhe would be convicted of murder in broad daylight.
“Take him away!”
With a wave of his hand, Chen Ming joined the two officers in escorting Chu Tianhe to the vehicle. The critically injured supermarket owner was also loaded into the car.
