True Terror Chapter Seventeen: Find One
According to the usual Werewolf game dynamics, now that he had identified a player as a wolf, he should step forward and lead the rhythm of the table. Yet, once his identity was revealed, with the witch already having used the antidote, his chances of survival would be slim; for now, the only confirmed wolf was player 12.
In a standard twelve-player game, there are four special roles, four villagers, and four werewolves. Players 6 and 7 were both plain villagers; the only remaining villager was his sister, which meant there was just one more villager left in the game. Mo Han could only be grateful it wasn’t an elimination round targeting the extremes.
If the witch revealed herself first, Mo Han thought he could risk stepping out as well. The previous night had been a peaceful one, which meant the witch had saved someone. If the witch came out, there would definitely be one silver water—if only he could determine who had received it.
With player 10 likely being the hunter, only one guard remained, and the other three were undoubtedly werewolves.
“Sheriff, please decide the speaking order.”
Mo Han once again decided to start with his younger sister.
“Player 2 speaking. Last night was a peaceful one—I’m sure everyone knows what happened.”
“Player 6 was the first to be attacked, and player 7 was voted out.”
“So now, either the witch or the seer can reveal themselves. The seer is best to wait.”
“With the witch out of potions, the seer’s survival isn’t guaranteed.”
“If the seer can make it to the end, there’s no need to rush and claim the role.”
“The guard can reveal now—someone needs to take the lead.”
“Pass...”
Next, player 3, please speak. Other players, please prepare.
“Player 3 speaking. Witch or seer, just reveal yourselves.”
“After all, the witch still has a poison, which is a deterrent.”
“I’ll follow the sheriff’s lead. I’m a good role.”
“Pass...”
After Su Zheyuan finished his analysis, he passed immediately.
“Alright, player 4 speaking. The player who was attacked last night was actually player 2.”
“Player 2 has my silver water. I am the only witch in the game.”
“I don’t think anyone will contest my claim as the witch, right?”
“On the first night, I hesitated to save because I thought a wolf might have self-sabotaged. On the second night, player 2 was attacked, so I used the antidote.”
“At present, I don’t know who the seer is, so I can’t allow more villagers to be eliminated.”
“That’s my personal view. End of statement.”
At this moment, Sun Jing as player 4 claimed the witch’s identity, making her and player 10 the only known special roles on the table. Player 10, who claimed to be a strong role, was almost certainly the hunter, not the guard.
Anyone who confidently declared themselves a strong role in Werewolf was either the witch or the hunter. Now that the witch had appeared, player 10 naturally must be the hunter.
“Now, player 5, please speak.”
“With player 10 as the hunter and player 4 as the witch, only the seer, the guard, and a single villager remain.”
“Player 6 was definitely a villager, and player 7, who was chaotic in leading the rhythm, is probably also a villager.”
“With player 4’s silver water given to player 2, that makes three confirmed villagers, plus my own card. The rest is self-evident—all four wolves are still at the table.”
“There’s a wolf among players 8 and 9, and another among 11 and 12. I, player 5, am not a wolf. Players 1 and 3 need to clarify their identities.”
“That’s all. End of statement.”
Next, player 8’s turn. Others, please prepare.
“I’m player 8, and I am not a werewolf. So the focus should be on players 9, 11, and 12.”
“Among these three, we need to find the wolves, though it’s not impossible all three are wolves.”
“There are at least three wolves left in play, and it’s still uncertain what role player 7 had.”
“Even if player 7 was a wolf, there are still three wolves left, so the outlook isn’t optimistic.”
“I think we should vote out player 12 first.”
“As for the reason? Let’s clear this wolf slot.”
Mo Han was still considering how to vote out player 12 when player 8’s words coincided perfectly with his own thoughts.
Last round, everyone collectively targeted player 7, not just because player 7 had tried to shift suspicion onto Mo Han and Mo Yan.
Moreover, Zhang Ling’er and Sun Jing were among the closest friends in the group, while Wei Yi, the scoundrel, had started dating the wealthy Du Xinlan almost immediately after breaking up with Zhang Ling’er.
So, when Mo Han suggested voting out player 7, Zhang Ling’er and Sun Jing agreed without hesitation.
Zhang Ling’er despised Wei Yi for leaving her for Du Xinlan, especially since Du Xinlan had boasted in front of her about how Wei Yi had pursued her.
Next, player 9, please speak. The others, be ready.
“Player 9 has a good role, so I have some doubts about player 8.”
“But I agree with player 8 that we should clear the wolf slot between players 11 and 12 first.”
“There’s definitely one wolf between those two.”
“My intuition says we should vote out player 12 first.”
Player 9’s statement ended. Player 10, please get ready.
“I have no objections. Let’s vote out player 11 or 12 first.”
“Either one is fine—there’s definitely a wolf there.”
Players 8 through 12 were not involved in the task at hand. To them, this was just a live-streamed game of Werewolf.
Even though there were panicked screams when someone was eliminated, everyone thought it was a trick set up by the production team for the sake of the show.
Throughout, they believed this was nothing more than an ordinary game of Werewolf and took their wolf-hunting seriously.
“As for player 1, who hasn’t revealed their role yet—either the guard, the seer, or a skilled player who always makes it to the sheriff stage.”
“Alright, I’ll pass too. Let’s wait for the sheriff to collect the votes.”
Only players 11, 12, and Mo Han had yet to speak, but Mo Han already knew player 12 was a wolf, so no matter how eloquently he argued, Mo Han paid him no mind.
With the focus already on players 11 and 12, Mo Han, who would speak last, was sure to persuade everyone to eliminate the obvious wolf first.
Mo Yan, who spoke first this round, was also considering which players were the wolves.
At this moment, she noticed her brother Mo Han staring intently at player 12.
Mo Yan suddenly wondered if her brother was the seer who had yet to reveal himself. Otherwise, why would he keep watching player 12 so closely? Su Zheyuan also observed Mo Han’s reaction, noticing both Mo Han’s focus on player 12 and Mo Yan’s gaze at Mo Han.
Mo Han was deep in thought about who the other wolves might be, while Mo Yan and Su Zheyuan were both fixated on Mo Han, so none of them heard what players 11 and 12 said.
Mo Yan glanced playfully at Sun Jing sitting beside Su Zheyuan.
While Mo Han tried to deduce the remaining wolves, Mo Yan had already decided that Sun Jing, player 4, was a wolf, simply because Sun Jing had claimed the identity that should have been hers.
Indeed, Mo Yan was the real witch; she had not used the antidote the previous night because the wolves hadn’t attacked anyone.
Unaware of the truth, Sun Jing thought the witch had used the antidote and hurried to claim the role, even giving her brother a silver water to gain his trust.
Still, Mo Yan couldn’t be sure if Sun Jing was a wolf pretending to be a witch or a villager hoping to win her brother’s support.
“Player 1, please speak.”
Mo Han, lost in thought, hadn’t heard the statements from players 11 and 12, but it didn’t matter—player 12 was his confirmed wolf.
With a wolf identified, he would vote accordingly.
“Alright, let’s just vote as we see fit.”
“I agree, let’s clear the wolf slot at player 12 first.”
Statements done. Please start voting.
...
Everyone glanced at one another, then ultimately voted for the player they believed was a wolf. In the end, player 12 was eliminated with nine votes.
Player 12 was quickly dragged into darkness, silence reigning within. Mo Han breathed a sigh of relief—the task had reached its midpoint.
“Night falls—everyone, close your eyes...”
Darkness descended once more. This was now the third night.
The first night, player 6 was the wolves’ first victim. On the first day, player 7, Wei Yi, had been eliminated by Mo Han for his reckless actions.
Coincidentally, players 4 (Sun Jing) and 5 (Zhang Ling’er) also wanted Wei Yi, the notorious scoundrel, out as soon as possible.
The second night was peaceful; everyone thought the witch had used the antidote.
But Mo Yan, the true witch, hadn’t used it at all, since the wolves hadn’t attacked that night. Afterward, player 4 claimed to be the witch.
On the second night, Mo Han, as the seer, investigated player 12.
Acting on the sheriff’s logic, he chose to check player 12 and discovered his first wolf. During the day, player 12 was voted out with nine votes, perhaps unaware of what elimination truly meant...
A vibrant life was lost in what seemed like a child’s game.
Mo Han and the others had to keep playing—for no one was willing to gamble with their lives.
