Chapter Seventy-Four: Little Fool
“The people from Tech Corporation have arrived!”
The Serpent’s Eyes narrowed, a cold glint flashing. With a single thought, countless pythons surged from the darkness behind him.
The snakes hissed and shrieked, rushing straight toward Lin Dong. But before they could get close, they burst apart one after another, their flesh and blood spraying through the air, obscuring all vision.
Seizing the moment, the Serpent’s Eyes turned and fled at full speed, heading directly toward Tech Corporation, intent on diverting disaster.
Yang Hao was observing the battlefield when he saw a tall figure sprinting toward him, panic etched across his wild, battered face.
“Oh? Looks like you took quite a beating...”
He looked the Serpent’s Eyes over, noting the dirt-caked face and sunken chest—clearly the result of a heavy blow.
Excellent... Let the dogs fight and bite each other.
Yang Hao was very satisfied. If even the Serpent’s Eyes, an A-ranked Corpse King, was beaten this badly, Lin Dong couldn’t be in much better shape. When both sides are weakened, he could sweep them up in one go!
He kept his thoughts hidden, feigning concern as he spoke, “Brother Serpent, you’re hurt? What about Lin Dong?”
“They’re strong! We’re no match for them. Luckily you arrived in time—act quickly!”
“Huh?”
Yang Hao sensed something was off. He scrutinized the battlefield and asked, worried, “Are all those getting crushed your subordinates?”
“Not all, but most.”
Yang Hao nearly spat blood. “And Lin Dong?”
“There!” The Serpent’s Eyes glanced over.
A tall, slender figure strolled calmly through the battlefield, his white shirt immaculate and unscathed, not a mark upon him.
Damn!
Yang Hao cursed silently. The Serpent’s Eyes was utterly outmatched, while Lin Dong looked untouched... It seemed there would be no spoils for the fisherman today.
Seeing the Serpent’s Eyes flee toward Tech Corporation’s camp, which housed over twenty awakened, Lin Dong didn’t rush to pursue, but walked over step by step.
“He’s coming!” The crowd grew tense.
With Lin Dong’s approach, several elite zombies charged toward the human camp, their savage aura palpable.
“Attack now!” Yang Hao commanded.
The awakened behind him gathered their energies. Several elemental awakened conjured earth walls, ice walls, ice spikes, fireballs—defensive and offensive abilities appearing in quick succession.
Their coordination was flawless.
These twenty-odd awakened possessed considerable strength.
Among them was a woman in a black nano combat suit, her figure accentuated, hair tied in a ponytail, exuding efficiency and confidence.
Her name was Xue Ting, a water-type awakened and one of the Hunter King squad captains, renowned for her formidable power.
With a sweep of her hand, pale blue energy gathered, and a water dragon roared forth, scattering zombies in all directions.
“Humans do have some strength...” the Serpent’s Eyes muttered. The awakened handled the elite zombies, while ordinary zombies were dealt with by pursuers.
The Gatling gun spat fire, a metallic storm shredding zombies. If any got close, the pursuers would swing their giant iron hammers, smashing them into pulp.
“There’s hope!” The Serpent’s Eyes felt a glimmer of victory.
But at that moment, a black shadow, ghostlike, slipped quietly into the battlefield, circling to the rear of Tech Corporation’s camp, merging silently with the shadow of an awakened on the ground.
The shadow was utterly silent—the perfect killer.
Little Black, its body flickering like flames, slowly rose from the awakened’s shadow.
“Hm?” A psychic awakened sensed something, turned instinctively, and his eyes widened in terror.
“Ling! Behind you!”
“What?” The awakened looked puzzled, but before she could turn, agony pierced her body.
With a sickening squelch, Little Black’s claw drove into her back.
The woman convulsed, blood gushing, eyes wide until death claimed her, her body collapsing limply to the ground.
Little Black cackled, licking the sweet blood from his claws, a delicacy to one who had long starved—his face was filled with satisfaction.
Everyone gasped—the scene was horrifying, uncanny.
Another Corpse King?
“Quick! Attack him!”
They cried out in panic, unleashing their abilities at Little Black’s position.
But the shadow had no intention of fighting. After the successful ambush, it retreated swiftly, and more zombies surged from the street corner behind him.
They were Little Black’s destitute brothers—five thousand zombies, a thousand elites.
Driven by desperation, they charged forward like starving wolves, fearless and vicious, seeing so many humans before them.
“Damn! Lin Dong has backup too!” Yang Hao realized the danger, ordering his people to block their advance.
The Serpent’s Eyes recognized the shadow immediately.
“So it’s you, my defeated subordinate—how dare you cause trouble at such a crucial moment!”
“Serpent’s Eyes! Your time has come!” The shadow growled.
Yang Hao and the awakened fought Little Black’s group, but their minds never forgot the greatest threat—Lin Dong.
“Wait...” Yang Hao’s brow furrowed, unease rising. He searched anxiously, but could not spot Lin Dong’s tall silhouette anywhere.
“Lin Dong’s gone!”
“What?” His companions were equally shocked, quickly scanning the battlefield, but Lin Dong had vanished.
That can’t be—it was clear he’d been walking this way. Where did he go?
But with terrifying zombies attacking from every direction, there was no time to search, only to focus on fighting.
With Tech Corporation and Little Black’s arrival, the battle had reached its fever pitch.
Yet there was one stalemate on the field—the Spider Woman. Once a dominant force, her strength was formidable.
She fired webs relentlessly, slaughtering or restraining zombies. Her densely woven webs were dotted with many crows.
Brother Crow was especially miserable now, darting and dodging through the webs, barely escaping.
“Don’t run, little darling!” Spider Woman chased from behind.
“Pervert... Pervert...” Brother Crow was terrified, flapping madly, just about to break free and soar into the sky.
But Spider Woman truly was his nemesis.
Opening her mouth, she sprayed countless silk threads, weaving a giant web above the crow.
With nowhere to hide, Brother Crow was caught as the net descended, crashing to the ground.
He struggled desperately, but the web was tough, tightening further, impossible to escape.
Spider Woman’s face lit with excitement. She leapt, her eight legs sharp as blades, stabbing toward Brother Crow.
His red eyes flashed, Spider Woman’s figure growing larger in his pupils, death looming.
“Damn, I’m done for...”
Just then, a burly figure appeared, shielding Brother Crow like a human wall.
With a sickening crunch, Tank crossed his arms, blocking the fatal blow.
But Spider Woman’s sharp legs pierced Tank’s body, leaving several bloody holes, blood streaming out.
Once again, Tank was impaled.
He clenched his teeth, turned to look at Brother Crow, endured the pain, and forced out a few words.
“Hey, first time we met I caught you, now I save you—we’re even now, right? Can we call it quits?”
Brother Crow’s red eyes blinked at him.
“Silly goose...”
