Chapter 124: The Cemetery
Tank squinted his eyes and realized that the small black dot was a helicopter, slowly moving. Before long, it disappeared into the clouds.
“I’ve seen that before. It should be a Tek Corporation aircraft.”
“Oh…”
Whisper nodded, secretly thinking that Brother Ke truly was well-informed. At the same time, he pondered that Tek Corporation must be making a move, likely with ill intent.
“Right now, the boss is the absolute overlord of Jiangbei City. When will he take down Tek Corporation?” Whisper firmly believed Lin Dong had the strength for that.
Tank scratched his head and said, “Tek Corporation has been delivering a lot to the boss. If we take them out, who will keep supplying him?”
“Uh, well...” Whisper was at a loss for words for a moment, feeling there was some truth to that—almost like Tek Corporation was being ‘domesticated.’
But if anyone dared to keep Tek Corporation under control, it would be Lin Dong.
As the two chatted, they reached the edge of their territory, where a mountain called Golden Origin Mountain appeared—a burial ground.
From afar, rows upon rows of tombstones stood tall, backed by dense forest. The cemetery was silent and eerie, giving off an ominous feeling.
Tank glanced around, sensing it wasn’t a place to linger.
“You take care of that area ahead. I’ll head back first.”
“Huh?”
Whisper opened his mouth in surprise, thinking the worst task was handed to the ‘outsider.’ Yet he dared not protest. He pressed his ear to the ground and patrolled forward alone.
...
Inside Tek Corporation, a helicopter roared as it slowly landed on the helipad.
The fierce wind whipped Yan Jian’s hair as he, along with several executives, waited nearby.
Five figures emerged from the helicopter, clad in nano-combat suits equipped with high-end gear. Their aura was imposing, exuding formidable combat power.
Leading them was a tall, shapely woman with sharp features and a short bob, appearing very capable. Her bright eyes were piercing, giving off an aloof air.
Her name was Luo Qian, an A-level Awakened, sent by Liu Baiyue as reinforcements.
Yan Jian quickly stepped forward.
“Captain Luo, greetings!”
“Mr. Ye, get straight to the point. We’re busy and don’t want to stay in Jiangbei City longer than necessary,” Luo Qian said coldly.
Yan Jian’s initial enthusiasm vanished, feeling like his warmth met a cold shoulder. She was just like that Liu Baiyue woman—what was there to be so proud of? Were they in a hurry to be reincarnated or what...
“Alright, Captain Luo, please follow me.” Yan Jian led them to a conference room, displaying various slides as he began recounting Lin Dong’s rise.
Starting from the prison and the mall, to several major battles, the entire story was laid out in detail.
Included was a photo of a white-shirted figure standing on a rooftop, surrounded by crows.
“A white shirt... this corpse king has quite a personality,” Luo Qian observed sharply.
A male teammate beside her chuckled.
“After all, zombies aren’t like humans. Some quirks are normal.”
“Hmm.” Luo Qian nodded.
Their squad had encountered all kinds of corpse kings, each stranger than the last.
Yan Jian spoke animatedly. “This corpse king’s abilities are bizarre, his physique incredibly strong—no weaknesses at all.”
“Is that so?” Luo Qian raised an eyebrow. “I’ve never seen a zombie evolve so perfectly.”
“Not only that, after several battles, his horde exceeds forty thousand!”
Yan Jian’s expression was exaggerated as he said this.
Luo Qian’s team didn’t seem particularly concerned.
A male teammate laughed lightly.
“Heh! Looks like Mr. Ye hasn’t seen the big scenes. We’ve faced hordes of nearly one hundred thousand in other cities, but in the end... the corpse kings were still hunted down!”
“Forty thousand isn’t many, but nearly ten thousand of them are elite,” Yan Jian added.
“Ah?”
The male teammate fell silent, admitting he hadn’t seen anything on that scale.
“The key point... some of those zombies were injected with the Z and Q viruses,” Yan Jian added, voice lowering, clearly embarrassed.
Luo Qian was speechless.
The atmosphere grew tense, a bit awkward.
Yan Jian analyzed, “I always felt that even if you came, you might not be a match for him, so better be cautious.”
“Don’t worry. We have a plan. For a corpse king like this, the best strategy is... assassination!” Luo Qian said with determined eyes.
With such a large number of elite zombies, a direct assault on the nest would be impossible—it was beyond any individual’s strength.
It was better to find the right opportunity to strike when he stepped out of his territory or lingered at the edges.
...
Meanwhile, Whisper continued diligently patrolling the territory. He had arrived at the cemetery, where silence prevailed, broken only by the whistle of the wind and the rustling of distant leaves.
“Looks like there’s nothing here.”
Whisper didn’t want to stay; the place felt eerie, stirring unease within him.
He turned to leave, but in the corner of his eye, he caught sight of a figure among the tombstones.
“Huh? Who’s that?”
Whisper snapped to attention, quickly turning to look.
To his surprise, a female zombie stood not far away—and she looked very familiar. She was thin, with long, sharp nails like steel blades. It was Little Eight.
“E-Eight… Sister Eight?”
Whisper’s eyes widened in shock, sensing something was wrong. Why had she suddenly appeared here?
Little Eight’s expression was dull and blank. Her eyes lacked ferocity; instead, they radiated an aura of death.
“Come here,” Little Eight said slowly.
Whisper shook his head frantically. Of course, he didn’t dare approach. Sister Eight never liked him and occasionally showed murderous intent.
Now she was alone, without any zombies guarding her... what if she really killed him?
“No, no, since you’re here, I’ll just go...” Whisper said, turning and running off swiftly.
He kept glancing back, seeing that Little Eight did not pursue, but he still didn’t dare relax.
He ran out of the cemetery, leaving Golden Origin Mountain behind, and reached the city streets. Only when he saw wandering zombies around did he feel a faint sense of safety.
“Phew—”
A weight lifted from Whisper’s heart as he slowed his pace, though he looked somewhat disheveled.
“Hey, why the rush?” a female zombie’s voice suddenly sounded nearby.
Whisper frowned, his nerves tightening again. Turning his head, he saw Little Eight’s face once more!
