Chapter 48: Your Whole Family Are Enchantresses!
Director Gu paced restlessly back and forth in his office before finally picking up the phone and dialing a number.
“Hello, Principal. Good day. This is Gu,” he said with utmost respect.
“Hmm. Gu, is there something you need?” The voice on the other end was aged, yet carried an undeniable authority—calm, almost devoid of emotion, but weighty, clear, and powerful.
“Principal, the matter you entrusted to me has been handled. I spoke with Qin Luo; he truly does not possess a teaching certificate. In fact, he admitted himself that he has never attended a formal academic institution. Therefore, I’ve followed the regulations and dismissed him from the College of Traditional Medicine,” Gu reported in detail.
“Utter nonsense. Is anyone allowed to become a teacher now? Does no one care about the reputation of our school? About the students who may one day become doctors?”
“Yes, yes, the fault is mine. I was careless,” Gu apologized hurriedly. “But at the time, Principal Li issued the order. It wasn’t easy for me to turn him down.”
“Principal Li Yonggang issued the order? Do you still have that note?”
“No, it was a phone call.”
“Then let it be,” the elder replied.
“What if Principal Li calls again to plead?”
“Ignore him. This time, no favors for anyone. We cannot have uncertified riffraff among our teaching staff.”
“Yes, I will follow your instructions,” Gu replied with a smile.
Li Qingyang, his face wrapped in layers of gauze, stepped forward. Once the old man hung up, he asked, “Grandfather, was that a call from Director Gu?”
“Hmm. Qin Luo has been dismissed,” the elder replied, his hair and beard snowy white, his expression stern. Even before his own grandson, he showed no trace of a smile.
Li Qingyang wanted to laugh with delight, but the movement tugged at his wounds, making him suck in a breath from the pain.
“You, try not to stir up trouble outside in the future.” Seeing his grandson in such a state, the old man was both pained and furious.
“Grandfather, I understand. But I’ve already been bullied like this—does that count as causing trouble?” Li Qingyang pointed to his face. “Qin Luo is easy enough to deal with, crushing him is like squashing an ant. But his female student, how are we supposed to handle her?”
The thought of that girl sent a chill through Li Qingyang’s heart. She was too fierce.
The first heavy blow he suffered came from her, when she grabbed his hair and slammed his head into a mirror. It was sheer violence.
“So what? When did the military ever have authority over the education system? Besides, this isn’t a false accusation. He truly has no teaching certificate. An untrained barefoot doctor—can we let someone like that teach here? Enough. Go and rest. I’ll handle this matter as I see fit,” the old man waved him off.
Li Qingyang’s lips moved, but fearing his grandfather would scold him for cowardice, he kept silent.
*************************************
Li Yonggang looked at Wang Jiujiu’s worried face and thought, Clearly, Qin Luo must be extraordinary. In less than a month of teaching at the medical university, he had already won such devotion from his students.
He did not know that Wang Jiujiu’s feelings for Qin Luo were more love than mere admiration; as for ‘devotion,’ it hardly mattered.
“Don’t worry, young lady. This matter can still be handled, as long as we find the right remedy. I know the call came from the old principal. Tonight, I’ll visit his home to see if there’s any knot that can be untied.” Li Yonggang spoke to comfort both Wang Jiujiu and Qin Luo.
“What is the old principal’s surname?” Qin Luo asked.
“Li. Principal Li may have retired, but he remains the honorary head of the school. Moreover, he has countless protégés throughout the system; his words carry weight. If he truly wants to pursue this issue, it won’t be easy to resolve. But I’ll try to explain. Your medical skills and teaching ability, I recognize.” Li Yonggang smiled.
“Does Principal Li have a grandson named Li Qingyang?” Qin Luo frowned, recalling that he had only offended one person with that surname.
Moreover, because of Li Qingcheng, he and Li Qingyang had clashed twice—the second time, thanks to Wang Jiujiu’s sudden outburst, Li Qingyang was beaten so badly he looked like a pig’s head, and rumor had it he was still in the hospital.
Clearly, Li Qingyang’s background was not simple. If his family couldn’t swallow their pride, retaliation against himself was possible.
“Hmm. You know Li Qingyang?” Li Yonggang looked at Qin Luo in confusion.
“Not only do I know him, we’ve had some conflicts,” Qin Luo replied with a wry face.
Wang Jiujiu realized who they were talking about and, her face full of anger, said, “Someone pleaded for him at the time, so he wasn’t taken away. And now this scum dares to cause trouble again. I’ll deal with him myself.”
“What exactly happened? Tell me,” Li Yonggang’s expression grew serious.
Qin Luo then recounted the misunderstanding with Li Qingyang while he was with Li Qingcheng, the resulting quarrel, and how, at the KTV, Li Qingyang ambushed him with a group, only to be beaten up by Wang Jiujiu’s friends.
When Li Qingcheng was mentioned, Wang Jiujiu pouted deeply, clearly displeased with Qin Luo and her being together, aware of Li Qingcheng’s reputation.
“So that’s how it is. I’d heard of the old principal’s grandson being injured and hospitalized, even called to offer my regards. I never thought it involved you two. If that’s the case, this knot is indeed hard to untangle,” Li Yonggang rubbed his aching temples.
“Principal Li, it’s all right. Regardless of whether I can teach at the medical university, I’m grateful for the opportunity you’ve given me,” Qin Luo shrugged indifferently.
Originally, he had come to the capital to break off an engagement, but then got involved in the poisoning incident at the College of Traditional Medicine. He had never intended to teach, only agreeing after Lin Qingyuan and Elder Wang persuaded him.
Now, even if he was truly dismissed, he could simply return home. It made little difference to him—only regretting the loss of such lovely students.
“No. Teacher Qin must stay,” Wang Jiujiu said with determination.
“Haha, all right. I’ll try to communicate with Principal Li first. Don’t worry, I’ll think of something,” Li Yonggang said. “Qin Luo, until the issue is resolved, your classes will be covered by other teachers, just to avoid giving anyone grounds for attack.”
“I understand,” Qin Luo nodded.
Wang Jiujiu’s lips curled into a cold smile.
Substitute teachers? Impossible.
Leaving Li Yonggang’s office, Qin Luo and Wang Jiujiu walked side by side along the secluded campus path lined with camphor trees.
“Teacher Qin, don’t worry. I will find a way to help you,” Wang Jiujiu said.
Qin Luo shook his head. “Jiujiu, I know your background is impressive. But let’s not involve your family this time. I’ve troubled you twice already; I can’t keep relying on your help.”
“Besides, this is an education issue. They’re simply pointing out, openly and honestly, that I lack a teaching certificate. If they insist on not showing favor to anyone, it’ll only make things awkward for those you ask for help.”
“My dear Teacher Qin, I wouldn’t dare let you rely on me out of embarrassment. It’s just that a humble girl admires your brilliance and greatness, and is willing to sell everything to help you,” Wang Jiujiu said with a smile. Her words were a joke and a confession—it depended on how he chose to understand them.
“So what if they don’t show favor? Favor is mutual. If I find ten people to call, they can refuse them all, but they’ll offend ten people at once. Even if it means giving them endless trouble in the future, I’ll still seek help.”
“——” Qin Luo broke out in a cold sweat.
Truly, a woman’s heart is the most unpredictable. When a woman gets fierce, her thinking defies all logic.
They walked in silence, when suddenly Qin Luo’s phone vibrated in his pocket.
He glanced at the caller ID: ‘Sister Li.’
“Sister Li? Li Qingcheng?” Wang Jiujiu’s sharp eyes immediately spotted the name on the screen.
“Haha, she wrote it herself,” Qin Luo replied awkwardly.
“Hmph,” Wang Jiujiu pouted.
“Hello, is something the matter?” Qin Luo asked.
“My dear little brother, why so formal with your sister? Can’t I call just to chat?” Li Qingcheng’s seductive voice came through the receiver, making Wang Jiujiu frown.
“Is there something you need? I’m busy right now. If not, I’ll hang up,” Qin Luo replied. With his student present, he couldn’t stand Li Qingcheng’s flirtation.
“Hateful man. Do you dislike me so much? Hmph, wait till tonight and see how I deal with you. You’re done with class now, aren’t you?”
“No, I still have two more classes,” Qin Luo said.
“Liar. I’m holding your college’s schedule right now. You had two classes before noon, none after. Stop struggling, little brother, you can’t escape your sister’s grasp,” Li Qingcheng said triumphantly.
“Oh, perhaps I remembered wrong. What is it?” Qin Luo glanced at Wang Jiujiu, trying to keep the conversation brief.
Why were all the women he knew so strong, almost like spirits? He could hardly handle them.
“Of course there’s something. Come to Qingcheng International right now. I have something very, very important to discuss with you. Remember, no running away. Otherwise, bear the consequences. Come, give me a kiss. Mwah——”
Qin Luo quickly ended the call, fearing Wang Jiujiu would hear the inappropriate parts.
“Teacher Qin seems quite familiar with her,” Wang Jiujiu said, her expression strange and her face dark.
“Not familiar. Not at all,” Qin Luo hurried to explain.
“Not familiar, but she says ‘mwah’ to you?” Wang Jiujiu made a flying kiss gesture.
“She’s just joking. She loves to joke,” Qin Luo was nearly in tears from her questioning.
“So, any woman can joke with you like that?”
“No.”
“No? Then why can she, but other women can’t?”
“——” Qin Luo thought, just let me die now.
Suddenly, Wang Jiujiu’s stern face blossomed into a smile, as if a hundred flowers bloomed in an instant.
“Hehe, I knew Teacher Qin wasn’t that kind of person.”
“Yes, yes, I’m not what you think,” Qin Luo nodded quickly. Understanding is everything.
“But others are that kind of person,” Wang Jiujiu said. “There are rumors at school that she’s a temptress. Any man who interacts with her will be seduced. So, Teacher Qin, you’d best keep your distance. If you want a girlfriend, you can come to me—I have plenty of resources.”
“A temptress?”
Qin Luo thought, you’re a temptress too. Your whole family is.
