Chapter 1302: A Special Patient!
Qin Luo never realized that Yanjing could be so vast.
The journey was tedious and long. With no one to talk to, he sat alone in the backseat for over two hours. Just as he was on the verge of dozing off, the car finally came to a halt in front of a sanatorium located in the suburbs.
Qin Luo did not know what place this was; there was not even a sign at the entrance. However, there were two rows of soldiers in military uniform, armed with live ammunition, standing guard.
Two military dogs stood to the side, eyeing Qin Luo like predators, their scarlet tongues lolling out at the stranger. If not for their handlers holding them back, they would likely have lunged through the window into the car.
After a rigorous inspection of their identification, the car was finally cleared to proceed, rolling slowly into the mysterious compound.
Inside the compound, soldiers in uniform were rarely seen. Instead, everywhere one looked, there were burly security personnel in black suits, wearing earpieces, guarding the perimeter.
Qin Luo could swear, based on his limited military knowledge, that it would be impossible to break out of this estate regardless of which direction one approached from. There were even personnel stationed in advance at potential vantage points for long-range snipers. Any sign of abnormality would result in being rounded up instantly.
Although this place was completely unfamiliar and felt suffocatingly solemn—as if everyone were facing a formidable enemy, making the very air feel stagnant in one's lungs—Qin Luo was not worried in the least.
This confidence stemmed first from Elder Lin Qingyuan. It was Lin who had called him here, and he was certain that, regardless of the circumstances, Lin Qingyuan would never harm him.
Furthermore, he felt that while the two black-suited bodyguards who fetched him looked cold, their attitude was not hostile. During the ride, they had said only two things to him: "Are you thirsty?" and "You may open the window to smoke."
Based on those two sentences alone, Qin Luo knew he was in a safe environment.
Recalling Elder Lin’s late return that night and his vague words, Qin Luo privately speculated that some major figure had fallen ill and he had been invited to treat them.
Judging by the estate and the surrounding bodyguards, the patient’s status was likely extraordinary. When such a person falls ill, they can summon the world's most renowned doctors. Hadn't Lin Qingyuan entered the medical team a step ahead of him?
Yet, the fact that they hadn't resolved the condition and had gone out of their way to bring him in suggested that the illness was extremely tricky. They had yet to come up with a viable treatment plan.
The car stopped in front of a small building. The square-jawed man stepped out first, walked over, and opened the door for Qin Luo, saying expressionlessly, "Mr. Qin, please exit the vehicle."
"Thank you," Qin Luo nodded.
"Please follow me," the man said, taking the lead and walking into the building.
The building faced east and was surrounded by massive cypresses and poplars. The interior decor was simple, yet it exuded an air of inviolable authority.
This struck Qin Luo as odd. He was not a timid person, yet he could not understand why he felt this way.
Upon reaching the second floor, the man stopped at a door near the stairs and knocked gently.
"Come in," a resonant, powerful voice replied from within.
The man opened the door and stepped aside. Qin Luo nodded at him and walked into the conference room.
As soon as he entered, Qin Luo saw Lin Qingyuan sitting at the lower end of an oval table. Beside him sat his mentor, Wang Xiushen; he had not expected him to be summoned as well.
Around the table sat a dozen men and women of similar age to Lin Qingyuan. They all appeared to be titans of medicine or experts in their respective fields, and they were observing the newly arrived Qin Luo with curious eyes.
Among this group, Qin Luo looked far too young.
Qin Luo greeted Lin Qingyuan and Wang Xiushen with a nod, then turned his gaze toward a middle-aged man with glasses standing at the head of the table. He could tell that this person, who was slightly younger than the rest, was the one in charge.
"You must be Qin Luo," the middle-aged man said, adjusting his glasses.
"I am," Qin Luo replied. As he spoke, his gaze involuntarily shifted toward a woman.
Sitting next to the middle-aged man was a young girl with a very sweet appearance, looking much like a cute Barbie doll. However, the icy expression on her face—identical to that of the men in black—gave off a vibe that kept people at a distance.
She wore tight black leather clothing that accentuated a slender, sexy figure, black leather shorts that revealed shapely, strong legs, and matching black high-boots. She wore a black leather glove on her right hand. She looked as if she had stepped straight out of a comic book.
She was playing with a sharp dagger; in her hands, it seemed to have a life of its own, flipping
