Chapter 58: Arrangements Made
After leaving Wang Dahuo’s residence, Zhao Fan glanced at the people trailing behind them, smiled amiably, and led the group to the bank, directly transferring fifty thousand yuan to him.
Once they had departed, Zhao Fan tapped the contract with his finger and handed it to Chen Jianyu.
“Keep the contract safe. Not a single mistake can be allowed.”
Chen Jianyu clutched it tightly. “Brother Fan, I don’t quite understand.”
“What is it you don’t understand?”
“This contract… Logically, we went to cause trouble, so why are we instead having Wang Dahuo send people to protect the supermarket? And we even paid so much money.”
A hundred thousand!
In two years, Chen Jianyu couldn’t have scraped together that much, and now it had just been handed over to Wang Dahuo. The thought itself made his heart ache.
“People from the Dragon Society would risk their lives to protect the supermarket.”
“Do you really think I paid this money just to protect the supermarket?”
“What do you mean?”
Zhao Fan sighed. “To be honest, I didn’t expect Wang Dahuo to relent for a mere hundred thousand.”
He’d said before he wouldn’t mess with anyone who came to him for business, but at the first opportunity, he’d agreed to help.
Chen Jianyu was even more perplexed. “Brother Fan, now I’m even more lost.”
“Wang Dahuo has principles, but he lacks foresight. Just wait and see—soon, there won’t be a place for Wang Dahuo in high society.”
Zhao Fan chuckled, indicating for Chen Jianyu to leave with the contract.
“Don’t worry. You’ll see the result soon enough.”
The next day, the supermarket reopened, and Wang Dahuo’s men arrived on time, a total of ten. At Zhao Fan’s request, these ten were all former martial arts school members—in other words, they were highly skilled.
After organizing them, Zhao Fan turned to the staff, offering a slight smile.
Because some employees had been injured, he had specifically asked them to wear animal masks, and he’d also put up a notice outside.
It explained that the supermarket had reopened and that everything inside was half off for a day.
After an hour or so of quiet, customers began pouring in. In no time, the entire supermarket was bustling with shoppers, and the staff could barely keep up.
In this situation, Zhao Fan took over one of the cash registers to help out.
While he was busy, a group of more than a dozen people suddenly appeared outside, completely blocking the entrance.
Zhao Fan, from his vantage point, was the first to notice. Without a word, he led Wang Dahuo’s men straight over.
“Who are you? What are you doing blocking the entrance to our supermarket?”
The group ignored Zhao Fan and instead fixed their gaze to the right.
“Brother Chen, what are you doing here?”
The man addressed as Brother Chen rubbed his nose. “We’re here to protect the supermarket. Boss Zhao paid us to be here. But you guys, what are you doing here?”
“We’re…”
The other group abruptly fell silent. At the same time, those standing beside Zhao Fan were struck by confusion.
On one side, they were to protect the supermarket; on the other, they were there to wreck it. Both sides were their own people—were they supposed to fight each other?
No, even if it came to blows, given the skills on both sides, it would be nothing but a one-sided rout.
Seeing their dilemma, Zhao Fan almost wanted to laugh. To say that Wang Dahuo lacked foresight was too gentle—he had no sense at all. If he had even a bit of sense, he wouldn’t have created this farcical situation.
How amusing.
Just then, a sudden scream came from the back.
Zhao Fan snapped back to reality, suddenly recalling the customers inside.
“Look, you’re all acquaintances. Don’t just block the entrance—go talk things over somewhere else. Don’t disrupt my business.”
At his words, both sides finally came to their senses.
Brother Chen cleared his throat. “Let’s go, let’s talk over there.”
Under Zhao Fan’s gaze, the two groups gradually drifted away.
Only then did the customers inside dare to poke their heads out.
“Boss, did you make some enemies? Why are there so many thugs?”
“Yeah, boss, the place was smashed just before. Is it going to get trashed again right after reopening?”
The customers’ reactions ranged from concern to suspicion, but most of all, they were curious. What exactly was going on?
Zhao Fan smiled. “It’s nothing. Just a minor incident. No one’s going to start a fight. I specifically hired people to protect the place. Relax—it’s no big deal.”
With a few reassuring words, the customers returned to shopping and checking out as usual, and everything resumed its normal rhythm.
About two hours later, Brother Chen’s group returned.
Zhao Fan looked at them calmly and instructed them to stand guard nearby.
“If anyone else shows up, I’ll have to trouble you again.”
“Heh, heh…”
The group laughed awkwardly and quietly retreated to a corner.
That night, Zhao Fan received a call from Zhao Haitian, who said Yang Qingqing was causing a commotion in the hospital and he couldn’t handle it alone, hoping Zhao Fan could come help.
Though resigned, Zhao Fan agreed.
Early the next morning, just as dawn broke, he arrived at the hospital.
The hospital was utterly quiet, with only the occasional person passing by, their footsteps hushed.
Zhao Fan first went to Zhao Yuner’s room. Seeing Zhao’s mother and the girl sleeping soundly, he turned and headed to Yang Qingqing’s ward.
Peering through the glass in the door, Zhao Fan spotted Zhao Haitian sitting in a corner. Even at a distance, his dark circles were obvious.
Raising an eyebrow, Zhao Fan quietly opened the door. “Big Brother, come out.”
Zhao Haitian started, turned, and met Zhao Fan’s eyes, his own brimming with emotion as he hurried out of the room.
“Brother, thank goodness you’re here.”
He gripped Zhao Fan’s hand, eyes welling with tears.
“Big Brother, don’t overreact.”
Zhao Fan didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Anyone who saw Zhao Haitian would think something terrible had happened.
“Come, sit down and tell me what’s been going on.”
After settling Zhao Haitian on a bench by the wall, Zhao Fan learned what had transpired in the past couple of days.
After Yang Qingqing’s surgery, her parents had left in a hurry and hadn’t shown up since yesterday.
Yang Qingqing, claiming she was still Zhao Haitian’s wife, demanded the Zhao family move her to another room. Zhao Haitian refused, even raising the prospect of their impending divorce.
At that, Yang Qingqing had gone berserk, causing endless trouble.
“If she only gave me a hard time, I could bear it. But she torments the other patients, too. You saw it, didn’t you? There are three beds in the room, but thanks to her, she’s the only one left. No matter what the hospital says, nothing works.”
Zhao Haitian was at his wits’ end, utterly exhausted.
Zhao Fan was speechless. He hadn’t actually noticed the state of the room, but he knew Zhao Haitian wouldn’t lie.
After a brief silence, Zhao Fan said, “If it doesn’t work, have her move out. Ask the hospital if she can be discharged. If she can, I’ll give them some money and let her parents take care of her.”
If she wanted to make a fuss, let her trouble her own family, not innocent outsiders.
Zhao Haitian wiped his face. “The hospital says she can’t be discharged.”
Zhao Fan was silent again. “Big Brother, you’ve made progress.”
