Chapter Ninety-One: Slammed to the Ground
If someone unfamiliar with the situation were to witness this scene, they would surely assume that a tall man was about to pummel a shorter one.
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
After Meng Lang managed to strike Tony’s chest once and earn a point, he was immediately flattened by Tony’s rapid three-punch combination!
“He really doesn’t hold back!” The other team members, seeing Meng Lang curled up on the floor clutching his stomach, all instinctively grabbed their own stomachs, each appearing to share in his pain.
“Meng Lang, do you want to go again?” Tony still wore a smile as he looked at Meng Lang.
Meng Lang staggered to his feet, clutching his stomach and waving his hands vigorously, “No, no.”
Manman Yu sat on the coach’s bench, shaking her head, “What a captain, not a trace of authority!”
Since Meng Lang had forfeited his chance for a rematch, Tony turned to the others, “Alright, who’s next?”
Although the players were starting to get cold feet, they had already agreed on the order of appearance beforehand—each would step up in order from tallest to shortest. Thus, Zhu Di, the basketball team’s second tallest, was the next to take the stage.
Zhu Di slammed his fists together, inching toward Tony step by step.
“Zhu Di, your presence is impressive!” Geng Haoshi cheered him on from the sidelines.
After six months of close training, the bond between Geng Haoshi and the other players was nearly brotherly—of all, he was closest to Zhu Di.
Hearing Geng Haoshi’s encouragement, Zhu Di turned and said, “Of course, you can’t lose your...”
Before Zhu Di could finish, Tony’s heavy fist smashed into his face!
Bang!
Just like that, Zhu Di was knocked out with a single punch!
Lying on the ground, clutching his face, Tony looked down at him and said, “In a match, you must stay focused. If your mind wanders, you could be knocked out in seconds!”
Zhu Di glanced up at Geng Haoshi with a plaintive look, as if to say, “This is all your fault.”
“Will you continue?” Tony asked.
“Continue!” Zhu Di replied. Not a single point yet—how could he quit now? He certainly didn’t want to come in last, and quickly got back up.
During a cautious exchange, Zhu Di managed to land a blow to Tony’s abdomen, earning a point. Then—just as Meng Lang had—he was swiftly floored by Tony’s three-punch combination!
Geng Haoshi had begun to notice a pattern: Tony seemed to deliberately let them score a point first, only to knock them down immediately afterward.
The third to step up was Wang Meng. After hitting Tony’s chest and earning a point, he too succumbed to Tony’s three-punch combination and was knocked out.
Fourth was Xu Sunpeng, fifth was Zhang Zhaolong, sixth was Xu Gaofeng... all the way to the eleventh, He Zhikun. Without exception, each managed to hit Tony’s chest or abdomen for a single point before being sent to the floor by the same three-punch combination!
All eleven who had completed the assessment had only managed to earn one point.
This confirmed Geng Haoshi’s earlier suspicion—Tony intended for everyone to score just one point in this first boxing assessment.
Unable to contain himself, Geng Haoshi asked the question weighing most heavily on his mind, “Coach Tony, if all our scores are the same, does that mean the twenty-thousand yuan bonus will be split evenly?”
Tony looked at Geng Haoshi, pretending to ponder for a moment, then replied, “If all your scores are the same, then the bonus will go to me.”
What?! The beautiful coach always left the bonus for us—she never took it for herself! This guy is shameless!... Geng Haoshi mentally cursed Tony countless times, but kept a smile on his face. “Haha, Coach, you’re joking, right?”
“I never joke about money,” Tony said solemnly.
Damn! He says it so confidently—never jokes about money... That’s just like me.
Geng Haoshi sighed, thinking, There’s no hope for that money.
“Don’t just stand there—you're the last one,” Tony motioned for Geng Haoshi to take the stage for his assessment.
“It’s all a setup,” Geng Haoshi muttered, knowing he had no chance at the twenty-thousand yuan bonus. His initial excitement and drive faded.
Geng Haoshi, now utterly unmotivated, began his assessment with Tony.
Tony seemed to sense Geng Haoshi’s thoughts.
Bang!
Within seconds, Geng Haoshi was knocked to the ground by Tony’s punch.
Tony looked at Geng Haoshi, “Though it’s just an assessment, a match is a match. Concentrate! Again!”
You never intended for us to win the bonus—what’s the point in being serious? Geng Haoshi stood up, still looking dispirited.
Bang! Just a few seconds later, he was knocked down again.
Come on! At least let me score one point! After being KO’d twice in mere seconds, Geng Haoshi was feeling pretty disgruntled.
Perhaps Tony, having finished the earlier bouts too quickly, wasn’t fully satisfied. Watching Geng Haoshi sprawled on the floor, Tony said, “Again!”
Goddess Mimi is still watching—I have to at least score one point! Though he’d given up on the bonus, the thought of Yang Mimi nearby gave Geng Haoshi a little motivation.
Yet, within seconds, he was knocked down again by Tony.
Quickly, Geng Haoshi sprang up and charged at Tony—Bang! Tony’s straight punch landed squarely, and Geng Haoshi was down once more.
Come on! Is this ever going to end? Why show mercy to the others and let them score first, but KO me four times without a single point?!... Geng Haoshi cursed Tony inwardly, then got up and charged again.
Bang!
This made five times—Geng Haoshi was down yet again.
Damn this smiling tiger! This damned fool!... Furious, Geng Haoshi sprang up and lunged at Tony.
“Little Two, why haven’t you learned your lesson? You should wait for the right moment to strike, otherwise—”
Tony’s lecture was cut short—Geng Haoshi’s right fist was suddenly aimed at Tony’s left cheek.
So fast! Tony was startled, quickly swaying back, narrowly dodging the punch.
But just as Tony expected Geng Haoshi to lose balance from the force, Geng Haoshi’s left hand shot upward, lightning-fast, toward Tony’s right cheek, forcing his body, initially leaning left, to twist back to center!
Bang!
Everyone present was stunned...
