Chapter Fifty-One: Even the Dream-Weaving Lady Cannot!
Ralts possesses innate emotional sensing abilities, yet these capabilities typically grow stronger as it matures—an indication that Ralts is truly on the verge of growing up. While this means it will become increasingly difficult to deceive her in the future, Tang Yi finds himself pleased nonetheless. The enhancement of her emotional sensing also signifies that Ralts will soon be able to use her telepathy skills more freely, instead of only accessing them when her own emotions reach a critical threshold.
Afterward, Tang Yi examined the wound on his forehead; it was a bit bruised and slightly painful, but nothing serious. He estimated it would fade in a couple of days. Fortunately, Ralts only knows telekinesis for now. If she were to master moves like Psychic Shock in the future, he’d likely need to call for an ambulance after being hit by one of those.
That evening, Tang Yi secretly opened his computer and, as expected, found the browsing history completely wiped. In her rush to delete it earlier, Ralts hadn’t left any new messages. Both of them tacitly chose not to mention the incident, behaving as though neither was aware of it.
The weekend finally arrived, marking another session for Ralts’ hypnosis therapy. Before leaving, Ralts packed her things—one notebook, a skill book, and a pen—all tidily stowed in an adorable little backpack purchased last time at Zhengyang Plaza. Tang Yi’s mouth twitched at the sight. “Are you really planning to study hypnotism?”
“Of course. I want to learn properly from Sister Drowzee,” Ralts answered with an earnestness that was clearly no joke.
Lately, Ralts had been exceptionally motivated, and her mood had improved significantly, so Tang Yi felt it best not to dampen her spirits. He had risen early this time, booking an appointment specifically with the senior doctor. After registering, it was soon their turn.
“Hello, I’m the one who came for hypnosis therapy a few days ago.” Tang Yi handed over the medical file.
The consultation room was as before, with the kindly elderly doctor and the poised Drowzee. The old woman took the file, smiling warmly. “Young man, I remember you. Just now, Drowzee and I were wondering if you’d come again these days.”
Tang Yi felt a bit embarrassed that they remembered him. “Ralts has improved a lot lately. The hypnosis therapy really works.”
Drowzee rose gracefully and reached out to take both of Ralts’ hands, her tone gentle and concerned. “You look much better today. Have you still been feeling that emptiness inside these past few days?”
“Not really, it happens very rarely now.” Ralts glanced at Tang Yi unconsciously, her voice shy, but she had no defenses against the amiable Drowzee.
“I see,” Drowzee paused, casting a meaningful glance at Tang Yi. “That’s wonderful.”
The old doctor appeared genuinely surprised, gazing at Tang Yi for a moment before nodding approvingly. “It seems you’re quite the capable trainer.”
Tang Yi, feeling uneasy under the gaze of three women, muttered, “Does this have anything to do with me? Isn’t it just the effect of the hypnosis therapy?”
The old woman merely smiled, neither confirming nor denying. “I’ve told you, hypnosis is merely a method and a process—a bridge, if you will. But if there’s nothing on the other side of the bridge, the results won’t be nearly as effective.”
“I’m not sure I understand.”
“In any case, you’ve done well. At this rate, after this session and one final one next week, your Ralts will be able to fully mature.”
It was good news, but remembering Ralts’ other purpose for coming today, Tang Yi felt a bit troubled. If it were any other doctor, he might have come up with an excuse, but facing such kind and harmonious trainers and Pokémon, he really didn’t want to lie.
“In fact, there’s another reason Ralts and I came today. Lately, I want her to learn hypnotism, but since she’s still recovering, I don’t feel right taking her to school for training. I recall Drowzee is quite skilled at hypnotism, so I wondered if she might offer some guidance.” Tang Yi forced himself to finish his request.
Ralts looked up in surprise, lips parted as if to speak, but Tang Yi stopped her.
He spoke earnestly, but he placed the responsibility for wanting to learn hypnotism on himself, rather than admitting it was Ralts who insisted on learning. No matter what, this was a hospital and not a training center. The registration fee wasn’t cheap, but it was nothing compared to the cost of professional skill training. Why should someone who’s been a doctor for decades teach you skills for free?
So, Tang Yi was prepared to be scolded, or even thrown out. But by taking the blame himself, if the old woman wanted to reprimand someone, it would be him as the trainer for being absurd or unrealistic, not Ralts.
Tang Yi never wanted Ralts to suffer any indignity outside.
The old woman was momentarily taken aback, but a lifetime of experience let her quickly see through Tang Yi’s little scheme. She exchanged a glance with Drowzee, and both broke into amused smiles.
Drowzee teased, “You really are a charming and interesting trainer. If I were a few decades younger, I might be tempted to become your partner myself.”
Ralts, already a bit shy, grew flustered at this, exclaiming anxiously, “No, that can’t be! That’s not allowed! That’s not allowed!”
Hmph!
How could someone take what belongs to her? Even the gentle, sweet Drowzee wouldn’t be permitted!
Drowzee and the old woman laughed even harder.
Tang Yi, half exasperated and half amused, tried to reassure her. “Drowzee’s just joking with us.”
After all, the harmony between the old woman and her Pokémon was enviable; Drowzee would never leave so easily.
“Ah, so that’s how it is!” Ralts’ pale cheeks flushed red, her green fringe drooped to cover her big red eyes.
You can’t see me, you can’t see me, you can’t see me…
“All right, I’ll take Ralts to the treatment room now,” Drowzee said, deftly diffusing the situation. She took Ralts’ hand and led her directly to the adjacent room.
Only the two trainers remained in the consultation room, waiting. During the treatment, the old woman refrained from calling any other patients and poured Tang Yi a cup of hot water.
Sipping her tea, she spoke slowly. “Last time, Drowzee mentioned Ralts to me. She said the child has remarkable potential as a psychic-type Pokémon girl.”
“Why is that?”
“Ralts has a fine temperament—reserved and subtle,” explained the old woman, clearly experienced in raising psychic Pokémon. “Such girls often have richer inner worlds and stronger mental powers—perfect for learning psychic-type moves.”
Tang Yi nodded in agreement. That much he understood.
A reserved nature meant higher special attack and lower physical attack.
