“What shall we have for lunch today? I’ll call for delivery.”

Seeing Yang Fan return, Yu Qian wore a smile so enchanting it could steal a man’s soul.

She had not gone to work today and had stayed home to spend some time with him.

So she had deliberately dressed a little more seductively than usual.

“You’re not going to the office today?” Yang Fan asked in confusion.

“Of course not. Working every day gets tiring. I’m giving myself a day off to rest properly,” Yu Qian said with a light laugh.

She had been watching his eyes, and when she realized he had not lingered on her at all, she could not help feeling a little disappointed.

In truth, she had a very good impression of Yang Fan.

A man like him made her feel especially safe.

He might seem cold on the surface, but the warmth he gave Yu Qian inwardly was unmistakable.

Having such a man to protect her, she felt that was quite wonderful.

Yet Yang Fan’s reaction still left her somewhat deflated.

“No need to order delivery. Eating out every day isn’t good for your health,” Yang Fan said, hands in his pockets. “We’ll cook at home today.”

As soon as she heard they were going to cook, Yu Qian forced a bitter smile. “My cooking is so bad I wouldn’t even dare praise it myself.”

She usually ate outside and rarely cooked for herself.

Besides, she was not very good at cooking. The only thing she could manage was the simplest egg fried rice.

Sometimes she would even burn the rice.

She really did not want to make a fool of herself in front of Yang Fan.

Yang Fan smiled and said, “You don’t need to cook. I’ll do it myself.”

“You can cook?” Yu Qian looked at him in surprise.

“If a man can’t even do this much, what use is he?” Yang Fan raised an eyebrow. “Relax. I won’t disappoint you. I guarantee you’ll be satisfied.”

With a sweet smile, Yu Qian said happily, “Then I’ll go change my clothes first, and we can go buy groceries together.”

“Aren’t you already perfectly fine? Why change?” Yang Fan asked, a little baffled.

“None of your business,” Yu Qian said, shooting him an affectionate glare, her cheeks faintly red.

She hurried back to her room and changed into casual clothes.

She did not want to go out dressed so provocatively, because she was not used to people staring at her with those lecherous eyes.

Dressing like that at home had mainly been to attract Yang Fan’s attention, but this man was too oblivious to romance and barely looked at her twice.

After changing, Yu Qian went with Yang Fan to the market to buy vegetables.

Walking side by side with him, Yu Qian felt a little thrill in her heart.

She had the strange feeling that the two of them looked exactly like a pair of lovers.

Yang Fan was handsome, tall, neither too thin nor too heavy, with a build that was just right.

As they walked along the street, many people turned to look back at them.

“Don’t go! Last time you cheated me out of my money with fake bills. Give it back to me now!”

“Damn it, you old hag, let go! If you don’t, don’t blame me for getting rough!”

At that moment, a burst of arguing came from ahead.

Looking over, they saw an old woman with white hair quarreling with a young man, surrounded by quite a crowd.

The old woman clutched the young man’s arm tightly with her thin, bony hands, refusing to let go, crying out for him to return her money.

Tears streamed down the old, wrinkled face, blurring her eyes.

The onlookers, seeing how pitiful she looked, could not help feeling sympathy.

“Damn old hag, let go, or I’ll hit you.”

The young man tried to shake off her grip, but could not, his face full of anger.

“Give me back my money!” the old woman pleaded desperately, still refusing to release him.

She was just a poor vegetable farmer, living alone with no family.

Selling the vegetables she grew was her only source of income.

Last time, because she had not looked carefully, the young man had tricked her with a counterfeit hundred-dollar bill and taken her money.

When she discovered the fake note, she could not find him, and could only cry.

One hundred dollars was enough for her to live on for half a month.

So after being cheated, she was utterly heartbroken.

“The people these days are worse than animals. They even scam an old lady out of her money. They’ll die horribly!”

“People like that are a scourge on society.”

“Kid, hand the money back to the old lady right now. Otherwise, don’t blame us for taking action.”

The crowd could no longer stand by and watch. One after another, they stepped forward and shouted at the young man.

A young man, not working honestly, but doing such wicked things—everyone found it infuriating.

“Damn you all, what the hell does this have to do with you? Keep it up and I’ll have someone kill you!” the young man roared at those trying to come closer, acting outrageously arrogant.

Hearing this, the people who had wanted to help grew even angrier and were ready to rush in.

“Yang Zi, what’s going on?”

At that moment, five more young men appeared, each holding a small knife.

The young man being held by the old woman pointed at the crowd and said, “Damn it, these idiots want to stick their noses where they don’t belong.”

“Who the hell is tired of living? Step forward,” the young man with the knife said, pointing at the crowd and shouting.

Seeing this, the onlookers instinctively stepped back.

The other side had accomplices, and they had knives in their hands. Very few people dared to step forward.

“Damn it, get lost.”

With one shove, the young man sent the old woman sprawling to the ground.

The old woman fell down, crying bitterly, no longer daring to step forward and grab him.

“You’re going too far. Bullying an unarmed old woman—are you even human?”

Yu Qian could not bear it any longer. She ran over and cursed the six young men furiously.

Seeing someone interfere, the six of them turned to look at her.

“Beauty, I advise you not to meddle. Otherwise, I’ll slice your face, and if you end up disfigured, don’t blame us,” said one yellow-haired punk, brandishing his knife at Yu Qian with a vicious look in his eyes.

“Give the money back to the old lady, or I’ll call the police,” Yu Qian said angrily.

She was not the least bit worried, because Yang Fan was right beside her.

“Damn it, what a busybody.” The yellow-haired punk cursed, then raised his hand to slap her.

Seeing him strike, Yu Qian’s face changed, and she instinctively retreated.

As she stepped back, Yang Fan surged forward at once, reaching out and seizing the punk’s wrist tightly.

“Go to hell!” Seeing Yang Fan move, the yellow-haired punk thrust the knife toward him.

A cruel curve appeared at the corner of Yang Fan’s mouth. He suddenly tightened his grip.

Crunch.

“Aaah!”

The yellow-haired punk’s wrist was crushed with a sickening snap, and he let out a miserable scream.

Seeing this, the remaining five young men immediately rushed at Yang Fan, all with knives in their hands.

The onlookers around them gasped in alarm and could no longer bear to watch.

Everyone could already picture the scene of someone getting stabbed.

Yet what happened next left everyone present staring in disbelief.

Faced with the five-man assault, Yang Fan stood calmly where he was.

When they got within reach, he struck.

Both hands moved like lightning.

Before the five thugs could even see how he had attacked, their chests were slammed by a tremendous force, and the sound of breaking bones rang out together.

In less than two seconds, all five were sent flying to the ground. Unable to get back up, they lay there howling in pain.

Everyone around them froze.
