Chapter 36: Scared Half to Death
“Dad, could you please not say random things?” Li Qiuya said with an expression of displeasure. “Why did you come looking for me? What do you want?”
The moment she saw her father arrive, Li Qiuya had a bad feeling in her heart.
Li Qingren turned to look at her, smiling. “Daughter, your dad is a bit short on cash these days. Could you give me some money to spend?”
When she realized he was here to ask for money, Li Qiuya’s face became visibly angry.
“Didn’t I just give you a hundred thousand two days ago? You spent it all already?” Li Qiuya asked furiously.
A hundred thousand gone in two days—how could she accept that? Even if she was wealthy, she couldn’t afford to squander money like this.
Li Qingren grinned awkwardly. “I couldn’t help myself, so I lost it gambling.”
“You went gambling again? How many times have I told you? If you gamble one more time, I won’t give you a single cent ever again,” Li Qiuya said angrily.
She felt utterly disappointed in her father. A gambling addict who had squandered the family’s money, and now he came to ask his daughter for more. The first couple of times, she might have obliged, but every time he came, she felt more resistant. If someone is addicted to gambling, no matter how much money they have, it will all be lost.
Li Qiuya had tried to persuade him many times, but Li Qingren always promised to stop, only to lose everything again.
“My sweet daughter, you’re a big star now, you have loads of money! Giving your father some to spend isn’t too much to ask, right?” Li Qingren said with a smile. “This time I won’t ask for much—just two hundred thousand.”
Hearing the outrageous request, Li Qiuya immediately shook her head, resolute. “I won’t give you a single cent. Don’t even think about it.”
She had lost all hope in her father. Giving him more money would only push him further into the abyss. She didn’t want to watch her father sink deeper, never able to return.
“Qiuya, I’m your dad! Is it really too much to ask for some money?” Li Qingren said, his expression sour. “If you won’t give me any, I’m not leaving today. Do as you see fit.”
Li Qingren started acting shamelessly, camping out at her doorstep, determined to stay until he got what he wanted.
Staring at him furiously, Li Qiuya was livid. She didn’t care anymore, closed the door, and walked inside.
She had firmly decided not to give him money, so let him wait outside.
“Girl, if you don’t give me money today, I won’t leave. I’ll wait here until you do,” Li Qingren shouted loudly.
This was his usual tactic, and every time he got money this way. So he wasn’t worried at all that Li Qiuya would refuse.
“If you keep causing trouble here, I’ll have the security guards take you away,” Li Qiuya said angrily.
“Hmph, since you won’t give me money, I’ll ask your boyfriend,” Li Qingren sneered.
He turned to look at Yang Fan’s door, then walked over and started knocking.
“Hey, kid, come out. I’ve got something to say to you!” Li Qingren knocked hard and shouted.
Li Qiuya hadn't expected her father to harass Yang Fan and hurriedly opened the door to stop him. “Dad, are you crazy? He’s not my boyfriend!”
“Pfft, you think I’ll believe that?” Li Qingren scoffed. “I saw you come out of his room with my own eyes. If he’s not your boyfriend, would I believe it?”
He was convinced Yang Fan was her boyfriend; even if he wasn’t, he must be a suitor.
Anyone living in Huiyuan Community must be wealthy.
Li Qingren knocked harder.
“Stop making trouble,” Li Qiuya rushed over to stop her father.
“Just give me money and I’ll leave,” Li Qingren said.
“I won’t give you any more money to gamble,” Li Qiuya replied firmly.
Seeing that she wouldn’t give in, Li Qingren continued knocking.
Just then, Yang Fan opened the door.
He fixed his gaze on Li Qingren and said coldly, “I have nothing to do with your daughter. If you bother me again, don’t blame me for being rude.”
“No connection? You think I’ll believe that?” Li Qingren said, full of disbelief. “If you two have nothing to do with each other, why did my daughter come out of your room?”
He was convinced Yang Fan and Li Qiuya were involved, so he continued, “Let me tell you, if you want to marry my daughter, don’t even think about it unless you pay a hundred million as bride price.”
“Besides the hundred million, you need to prepare a villa—big enough—and a luxury car.”
“My daughter is a famous star, her worth is sky-high.”
Seeing her father rambling endlessly at Yang Fan, Li Qiuya couldn’t take it anymore. She and Yang Fan had nothing between them, yet her father was demanding bride price and other extravagances, asking for the moon.
Yang Fan quietly watched Li Qingren, waiting for him to finish.
“Are you done?” Yang Fan said coldly.
Li Qingren paused, then said, “That’s all for now. If I think of anything else, I’ll let you know.”
Yang Fan stared at him and spoke each word deliberately, “This is the last time I’ll say it. I have nothing to do with your daughter. If you bother me again, I’ll throw you off the building.”
“Damn it, kid, who are you trying to scare? Believe me, I can get people to deal with you!” Li Qingren snapped. “I know people in the underworld—one call and they’ll be here!”
Yang Fan looked at Li Qingren as if he were an idiot.
To a cultivator, the underworld was nothing but ants, not worth mentioning.
Seeing Yang Fan silent, Li Qingren thought he was scared, his expression turning smug. “Afraid, huh? Then hurry up and apologize, pay me a million or so, and maybe I’ll let you off.”
“Dad, if you don’t leave, I’m calling security,” Li Qiuya said, her face dark.
But Li Qingren ignored her, arrogantly addressing Yang Fan, “Kid, if you know what’s good for you, apologize now.”
Yang Fan didn’t respond. He grabbed Li Qingren by the throat with one hand and lifted him up.
Yang Fan moved suddenly, giving Li Qiuya and Li Qingren no time to react.
Yang Fan held Li Qingren like an eagle clutching a chick.
He carried him to the window at the end of the corridor and dangled him outside.
“Ah!”
Li Qiuya screamed in terror as Yang Fan put her father out the window.
They were on the twelfth floor; a fall would be fatal.
Li Qingren turned pale, his body trembling.
“Brother, let’s talk calmly, let’s talk calmly,” Li Qingren stammered, his face flushed, barely able to speak.
Dangling in mid-air, he felt his legs go weak.
“Yang Fan, don’t do anything crazy! Pull him up, quickly,” Li Qiuya urged, staying near Yang Fan but not daring to get too close, afraid he might let go.
“Brother, I was wrong, I won’t dare again,” Li Qingren pleaded, his voice breaking into sobs.
Especially seeing Yang Fan’s cold eyes, Li Qingren felt chills down his spine.
Yang Fan hauled him up and tossed him onto the corridor floor, barking, “Get out.”
Li Qingren didn’t dare linger another second, bolting away, not even waiting for the elevator.
Seeing the wet patch on the floor, Li Qiuya was at a loss for words.
Her father had wet himself out of fear—it was what he deserved.
“Sorry for the trouble,” Li Qiuya said apologetically.
“It’s nothing,” Yang Fan replied coolly, closing the door.
