Chapter 14: The Unruffled Yang Fan
“The other party is a gangster—I can't afford to offend them,” the owner explained the situation in full.
From the owner's account, Yang Fan finally understood. It turned out that a gang leader had taken a fancy to the pharmacy's location and wanted to buy it. The owner refused, so the boss resorted to despicable tactics, threatening him: if he didn't sell, his family would be kidnapped.
At first, the owner thought that reporting to the police would solve everything, but even that proved futile—clearly, the gang leader had connections within the police station. Over the past few days, his family had been terrorized, strangers had splashed chicken blood at their door, and everyone at home was frightened out of their wits.
“Let’s do this—transfer the pharmacy to me,” Yang Fan decided after some thought.
He already had a plan in mind. Since he’d need to gather medicinal herbs in the future, running a pharmacy would be a perfect cover for collecting them. Money was not an issue; acquiring the pharmacy would be no problem.
But the owner only shook his head, helpless. “It’s not that I don’t want to sell to you, it’s that I dare not.”
The gang boss had made it clear: if the pharmacy was transferred to anyone else, they would show no mercy. For his family’s safety, the owner had no choice but to comply. He was, after all, an ordinary citizen, powerless against gangsters, especially those with influential backing.
“Are they threatening you?” Yang Fan didn’t need to guess—he knew the owner was intimidated into refusing the transfer.
The owner nodded bitterly, his heart bleeding. The pharmacy was valuable; selling to someone else would fetch a handsome price. Selling to the gang would only bring in a third of what it was worth, a huge loss. But he was left with no choice.
“Don’t worry. As long as you transfer the pharmacy to me, I guarantee your family will be safe,” Yang Fan assured him.
He didn’t mind dealing with this so-called gang boss. With his current strength, he had ample confidence to handle these thugs. After all, he was a killer god, skilled in countless ways to end lives. Making someone disappear from this world was effortless for him. Ordinary people were nothing but ants in his eyes.
Hearing Yang Fan’s tone, the owner was startled. Could this young man really take on the gang?
“Brother, you’d better think carefully. These are ruthless people—don’t mess with them,” the owner advised.
“Rest assured, they won’t threaten you again,” Yang Fan replied confidently. “If I wish, I can make them vanish from this world.”
Yang Fan’s assurance piqued the owner’s curiosity. To make a gang boss disappear, one must possess formidable power. Was this young man the scion of some powerful force? Otherwise, how could he be so bold?
“Who are you?” the owner asked.
“That’s not important. Just know I can keep you safe,” Yang Fan replied coolly.
Just then, a middle-aged man strode in, holding a document. He marched straight to the owner, slapped the document onto the counter, and said arrogantly, “Mr. Zhang, I’ve brought the transfer contract. Sign it now—I haven’t got time to waste on you.”
Mr. Zhang picked up the document and glanced at it, only to discover the transfer price had been slashed in half. Fury flared in his chest.
“You’re pushing me too far! We agreed on a price—how can you cut it in half?” Mr. Zhang exclaimed angrily.
Just days ago, they had settled on a price; now they’d halved it. Such shamelessness was beyond belief. The thought of selling his pharmacy for a pittance filled Mr. Zhang with resentment.
“Heh, Mr. Zhang, let me tell you—if you don’t sign today, I can't guarantee your family’s safety,” the middle-aged man sneered, threatening, “I’ve seen your daughter—pretty little thing. You don’t want anything bad to happen to her, do you?”
Mr. Zhang’s face turned pale with anger and fear. If his daughter were harmed by these scum, he’d never forgive himself. He could part with the pharmacy, but his daughter’s safety was non-negotiable. Gritting his teeth, Mr. Zhang picked up the pen, ready to sign.
“Wait,” Yang Fan pressed down on Mr. Zhang’s hand, stopping him.
He turned to the middle-aged man. “Mr. Zhang has agreed to transfer the pharmacy to me, so you should take your contract and leave.”
Mr. Zhang was stunned, not expecting Yang Fan to intervene. If Yang Fan could truly deal with the gangsters, it would be ideal—he wouldn’t have to sell his pharmacy for a fraction of its worth.
“Damn you—how dare you meddle in our syndicate’s affairs? Are you tired of living?” the middle-aged man cursed at Yang Fan, his face full of arrogance.
His syndicate was a prominent gang in Yuan City, with considerable influence. Crucially, they had powerful backing, which allowed them to thrive in the city. Few dared to provoke them.
Accustomed to swaggering and bullying others, the middle-aged man’s ferocity surfaced at the first sign of defiance.
Yang Fan looked at him coldly, as if he were gazing at a corpse.
Feeling Yang Fan’s chilling stare, the middle-aged man grew agitated. “You little bastard, believe me, I’ll kill you!”
He swung a punch at Yang Fan.
A scream rang out, and the middle-aged man was sent flying toward the pharmacy entrance, shattering the glass door. He lay on the ground, howling in pain, blood streaming down his face.
Mr. Zhang was dumbfounded, staring blankly at the scene before him. When he finally came to his senses, the middle-aged man was already sprawled outside. He hadn’t even seen how Yang Fan struck.
“You wait—I'll get people to kill you!” the middle-aged man threatened, struggling to his feet. But when he caught the murderous glint in Yang Fan’s eyes, he shuddered and bolted.
“Sigh, you’re too impulsive. There's never a good end for those who offend them. You’d better leave quickly,” Mr. Zhang urged Yang Fan. “I don’t want to sell the pharmacy anymore—I need to hurry home and get my family out of here.”
“It’s fine. I’ll wait right here for them to come. It’s the perfect chance to settle the matter,” Yang Fan replied calmly.
With his current strength, these gangsters posed no threat. If they brought reinforcements, it would suit him perfectly. He intended to teach them a lesson.
Seeing Yang Fan’s refusal to leave, Mr. Zhang grew even more puzzled. Could this man really deal with the gang boss?
“Brother, if you can truly handle them, I’ll transfer the pharmacy to you,” Mr. Zhang said.
“No worries—these are just small fry. They’re not worth my attention,” Yang Fan replied confidently.
Mr. Zhang said nothing more. After a brief conversation, he left his pharmacy. He crossed the street and sat in a small restaurant opposite, wanting to see how Yang Fan would handle the Green Snake Gang.
Yang Fan pulled up a chair and sat at the pharmacy entrance, waiting quietly.
Seeing Yang Fan’s tranquil demeanor, Mr. Zhang’s curiosity only deepened.
Soon, pedestrians on the street hurried out of the way, as three vans sped toward the pharmacy.
