Chapter 117: The Home Has Been Plundered
If Ye Qiu had known that his backyard was in absolute chaos, he would likely have died of anger. Unfortunately, Yue Chan intentionally kept it from him, hoping to play a trick on him.
Sensing that the moment was ripe, Yue Chan turned around, a look of playful surprise dancing across her face, captivating to behold. She said in a tone full of hidden meaning, "I think, if you have a moment, you should go check on the backyard..."
"Check on the backyard?"
Baffled, Ye Qiu wondered what she was getting at. What could possibly be wrong with the backyard? He felt confused; why would she tell him to go there for no reason? There was no one in the backyard.
"What are you trying to say?" Ye Qiu asked. He felt an increasing sense of unease. In Yue Chan’s eyes, he caught a flicker of mischief, as if something terrible had happened. *Damn it, is this woman trying to set me up again?*
Yue Chan did not answer. She continued to watch him with a playful gaze, clearly relishing the prospect of his reaction once he discovered the truth.
"The backyard?"
With Yue Chan remaining silent, Ye Qiu felt even more unsettled. A prickling sensation of anxiety washed over him, and he found himself walking toward the back of the building.
"This is bizarre. What could possibly happen in the backyard? Don’t tell me those Dark Giants managed to sneak in and raid my home?" Ye Qiu muttered to himself. The others watched him leave, their faces filled with confusion, glancing back and forth between him and Yue Chan.
"Hmm? This stillness... why does it feel like the calm before a storm?" Qing Cheng muttered. He glanced at Cao He, who was still plucking feathers, then at Yue Chan, but he dared not speak.
Suddenly, a roar—a sound like a pig being slaughtered—echoed from the backyard.
"God damn it! Who did this? Who the hell did this?! Get out here right now!"
The roar belonged to none other than Ye Qiu.
The backyard was in total ruins. The entire herb garden looked as if it had been ransacked by bandits; the immortal herbs were uprooted and scattered everywhere across the ground. Seeing this, Ye Qiu went completely berserk. It felt as though his life’s savings had vanished overnight, and his heart ached with unbearable agony.
"Damn it! Don't let me find out who did this, or I swear I’ll tear them limb from limb!"
Ye Qiu was beyond furious. Then, he noticed the door to his study was wide open, and a wave of dread surged through him.
"Oh no..."
He could have accepted the loss of the herbs, but seeing the study door ajar made him panic. That room contained all the savings he had accumulated over the past twenty years. Surely, they hadn't stolen those too?
He rushed into the study, and upon seeing the scene inside, his legs gave out. He collapsed to the floor.
"Who! Who was it?!"
Ye Qiu was falling apart. He had come back from his quest today in high spirits, but before he could even savor the joy of victory, his home had been pilfered? What kind of twisted joke was this? Trading a chicken for an entire restaurant? That was a massive loss!
The paintings and scrolls in his study had all been ransacked; most were gone, and his weapons were missing as well. Ye Qiu did a rough calculation—this single raid had cost him trillions!
He was shattered.
"Wait..."
Ye Qiu suddenly realized something. When he walked in earlier, the entire courtyard had felt empty—the livestock were gone. He rushed back out of the study and ran to the pond. The koi were gone. The monkeys on the rockery were gone. The pigs in the pen were gone. Even the wild oxen and goats in the shed had vanished.
"Dammit! I was wondering who would dare rob me. It was an inside job! I guarded against everything, but I couldn't guard against thieves within my own walls. I'm going to explode with rage!"
Ye Qiu was incensed. He realized that such a calculated raid on his home could only have been orchestrated by that monkey; the other animals weren't smart enough to think of it.
"You damn monkey! I raised you like a brother, hoping you’d grow strong enough to protect me, and you turn around and incite the others to rob me? This is unforgivable! Just you wait, you’re dead meat!"
Ye Qiu’s roar echoed throughout the restaurant, sending shivers down everyone’s spines. Outside the restaurant, a crowd had gathered, intending to report the status of the battle to Ye Qiu, but upon hearing those harrowing screams, they were too terrified to enter.
"What happened to the Senior?"
"How many wives did he lose to scream like that?"
"This is terrifying. Maybe today isn't the best time to visit? Shall we leave?"
"Yes, let's go!"
In an instant, the crowd outside collectively decided to retreat, for Ye Qiu’s roar was truly too frightening. They had no desire to be the targets of his displaced anger.
After they left, the atmosphere in the restaurant became incredibly oppressive. The young girls from the Heavenly Palace were too scared to make a sound, and even the Heaven-Swallowing Sparrow and Qing Cheng were the same. The only ones who remained calm were Cao He, who was still plucking his chicken, and the elegant, self-possessed Yue Chan.
Just then, a figure appeared at the entrance. It was Liu Jianchen.
"I’m back!"
Full of spirit, Liu Jianchen walked in, only to find everyone staring at him. Being thick-skinned, he failed to realize the gravity of the situation. He greeted them cheerfully, "Hey, everyone’s here! What are you all busy with?"
No one answered. The atmosphere was bizarre. Everyone looked at him as if he were a fool, leaving Liu Jianchen completely bewildered.
"What’s going on? Why is everyone so serious? Did something happen?"
Liu Jianchen, confused, strode further into the restaurant. Just as he was about to ask Cao He what was wrong, a figure flew out from the backyard.
"Master!"
Before he could finish his sentence, Ye Qiu struck him with a palm, leaving Liu Jianchen dazed and confused.
"What the hell? What did I do wrong? Why are you hitting me?"
Poor guy, he became Ye Qiu’s punching bag, stunned by the sudden assault.
"Ah... unforgivable!"
Consumed by rage, Ye Qiu had nearly lost his mind. He almost struck Liu Jianchen down, though he retained just enough sense to hold back. Poor Liu Jianchen had no idea what was happening; he had received a brutal beating for no reason and dared not talk back, feeling utterly aggrieved.
"Master, what happened? What could have made you so angry?"
Despite his grievances, Liu Jianchen didn't dare complain and instead asked solicitously what had occurred.
Ye Qiu glared at him and roared, "What happened? My home was robbed! Damn it, my entire herb garden and all the scrolls and weapons in my study have been wiped clean!"
"What!"
Liu Jianchen was stunned. Others might not have known, but he was well aware that the treasures in Ye Qiu’s possession were priceless, peerless immortal artifacts. They had all been stolen?
"Who did it? Master, just say the word, and I will hunt them down!"
*Damn it, so that's why I got beaten up for nothing! You better not let me catch you, or I’ll torture you to death.* Liu Jianchen was furious, having found his own outlet for his anger.
Ye Qiu glanced at him, his rage gradually subsiding. The treasures were gone; there was no point in venting further. The priority now was to find a way to cut his losses.
