Chapter 128: The Talking Jade-White Gourd
A slab of snow-rock floated in the void, shrouded in a faint, hazy white glow. A woman in purple sat weakly upon the rock, staring powerlessly at the small, jade-white gourd that had suddenly appeared in the sky, complete with human facial features.
She possessed mastery over the path of the soul; any living being with a soul was inherently suppressed by her. However, she was not skilled in defense. The snow-rock beneath her served as a supreme defensive treasure, yet the world was filled with countless secret arts, many of which were so strange and unpredictable that defense was all but impossible.
The previous encounter with Luo Yan and the Mosquito Daoist was a prime example. While billions of black mosquitoes could not penetrate her white light, the Nether Needle pierced through it with ease. Moreover, that Luo Yan had been able to adapt to and accelerate within the light emanated by the snow-rock.
Upon seeing the jade-white gourd with its facial features, the woman in purple sensed a sinister and eerie aura, as if the gourd contained the most malevolent power in the world.
Yet, when the white beams of light emerged, she realized she was wrong—terribly wrong. The two seemingly ethereal white beams emitted a force of the utmost rigidity and masculinity. The moment they appeared, they carried an overbearing sensation that repelled all evil.
The woman in purple felt a jolt of alarm. Had she not been injured, she might have had a chance to escape, but now she could only rely on the glow of the snow-rock beneath her to fend off the attack.
Just as she felt the two white beams were about to pierce her defenses, a mirror suddenly appeared above her head.
The mirror was massive, completely shielding the woman in purple. A hazy, clear light enveloped the Demon Moon Mirror, and its surface, resembling a deep pool, emitted a faint, wispy mist.
The two beams, containing the world’s most rigid and masculine power, struck the mirror's surface, triggering a burst of five-colored smoke and clouds before being reflected instantly and vanishing into the clouds.
Nan Luo had sensed the terrifying power within those two beams and, knowing the woman in purple could not withstand them, had used the Demon Moon Mirror to block. He was not certain if the mirror would hold; given the sheer intensity of the masculine power he felt, he feared the mirror itself might be pierced.
Yet, the Demon Moon Mirror held, and through it, Nan Luo realized that those two beams were truly beams of light, not illusions created by a magical treasure. As for their true lethality, Nan Luo could not say.
Once the beams were blocked, the jade-white gourd vanished into the void.
As Nan Luo wondered what had happened, he heard a furious shout from a hundred miles away: "Hou Yi, Xing Tian! How dare you move against us? Are you not afraid of extermination?"
"Haha! What if we kill you? We are killing you! Extermination? Who could possibly exterminate our Wu tribe?"
Nan Luo recognized the voice as Xing Tian’s. Looking from high above, he saw that a hundred miles away, Hou Yi, Xing Tian, Dafeng, and Peng Meng were all gathered, surrounding two figures.
"Heh, extermination? Not even Di Jun or Tai Yi would dare say such a thing!" Dafeng remarked with a grim tone.
Nan Luo was puzzled to see them ignore him entirely to besiege the two strangers.
Of the two surrounded, one was the man who had previously manifested the giant cyan-black claw. His two thin mustaches gave him an air of exceptional elegance. Even now, surrounded by four Great Witches, he showed no fear, his demeanor remaining relaxed and carefree.
The one beside him was dressed in white, and it was he who had spoken with such arrogance.
"Who are these two? Why, the moment the Wu tribe discovered them, they sought to kill them, ignoring even me," Nan Luo mused.
Suddenly, Hou Yi moved. A flash of black light shimmered in his hand, and a black bow appeared. His other hand pulled the string with lightning speed, and an arrow was notched before anyone could blink.
The bow resembled a full moon, and the arrow, like a black bolt of light, vanished into the void instantly.
It struck directly at the boastful, handsome man in white.
The man in white had not expected Hou Yi to act so suddenly. He hurriedly transformed into a long rainbow, soaring into the sky, but he had barely moved before Hou Yi's black arrow struck him.
Nan Luo knew from experience that once Hou Yi released an arrow, dodging it was an arduous task. When he saw Hou Yi fire, he assumed that unless the two men had a treasure capable of blocking the shot, one of them would likely perish.
However, the handsome, dashing man in white had transformed into a rainbow to flee, which caught Nan Luo off guard. He had not expected such an escape technique, thinking, "This might well be the greatest escape art in the Primordial World."
Whether in terms of speed or the time taken to manifest, Nan Luo knew he could not compare.
Yet, because Hou Yi had acted first, the man was struck despite his peerless escape art.
The rainbow light shattered, and the man in white fell from the void. His left arm was pierced, and blood flowed freely. Though he had failed to dodge the arrow, he had survived.
Hou Yi had fired, and the man had transformed into light to escape—all of this occurred in the blink of an eye. Their speed left the others stunned. It was only when the man fell from the rainbow that Dafeng, Xing Tian, and Peng Meng finally moved.
In an instant, a murderous aura surged to the heavens.
As they moved, another figure acted.
The man with the two thin mustaches, who had maintained a faint smile even while Hou Yi drew his bow, pointed to the sky. He transformed into a long rainbow, circled the wounded man in white, and the two vanished.
A jade-white gourd appeared in the sky, its facial features complete.
The eyes on the jade gourd suddenly shot forth four beams of light, landing instantly upon Hou Yi, Xing Tian, Dafeng, and Peng Meng.
Then, a crisp, childlike voice echoed through the void: "Please, precious treasure, turn around..."
Nan Luo clearly saw the mouth on the jade gourd open; it seemed as though the gourd itself was speaking.
The voice was clear, like that of a young girl. While Nan Luo was still confused, he saw Peng Meng and Dafeng scream and plummet straight down from the void.
"They are actually dead." Nan Luo could sense that the life force of both Peng Meng and Dafeng had completely vanished.
Hou Yi and Xing Tian swayed slightly, then recovered. Nan Luo observed that when the white beams hit them, one had blocked with his axe, and the other with his bow.
Yet, Nan Luo could still sense that they had been injured, though the extent was unclear. The fact that the beams could force two top-tier Great Witches to stagger and instantly kill Peng Meng and Dafeng spoke volumes of the terrifying power of that white light.
Xing Tian, recovering his wits, let out a roar and charged toward the two figures now appearing in the clouds, his black giant axe growing to the size of a mountain. It shook the void, seemingly disrupting all escape arts.
Hou Yi’s Heaven-Bending Bow was drawn, his killing intent soaring as he coldly spat out two words: "Chasing Moon..."
The man with the thin mustaches reached into the void, retrieved the jade-white gourd, grabbed the man in white with his other hand, and transformed into a long rainbow, heading west.
"Haha! The Great Witches of the Wu tribe are indeed formidable. I take my leave!"
The voice was bright and relaxed. By the time the words faded, the rainbow had already disappeared behind the vast mountain range.
As the rainbow streaked across the sky, a black arrow-glow followed closely behind. The speed was evenly matched; one was just a moment ahead, maintaining a constant distance that never wavered.
After the man fled, Xing Tian and Hou Yi pursued, vanishing beyond the horizon within moments.
Watching the Wu tribe inexplicably clash with the two strangers, losing two Great Witches in the process, Nan Luo felt a sense of profound unease.
Based on their divine powers and techniques, they must have had a distinguished background. Furthermore, the arrogance of the one who spoke suggested he held the Wu tribe in no regard. In the current Primordial World, who would dare look down upon the Wu tribe?
Perhaps only the supreme Eastern Emperor Tai Yi or the mysterious Heavenly Emperor Di Jun. As for the star lords of the Heavenly Court, they might boast from afar, but never while surrounded by four Great Witches.
"What is their origin? And what is that treasure? It is so bizarre," Nan Luo mused.
He had a premonition that something massive was brewing in the world.
