Chapter 154: Utterly Ruined
"What are you talking nonsense for? No one was hired to decorate our marital home at all." As soon as the words left his mouth, he realized his mistake. Looking around, he found everyone casting strange and suspicious glances at him.
Even the neighbor wore a look of utter shock. "Teacher Wang, have you actually been married before?"
Wang Mingyi felt his spine go cold. Thinking quickly on his feet, he blurted out, "No, I meant our marital home over here."
The woman who had spoken earlier dropped his previous question and seized upon the main point again, asking with a mixture of confusion and astonishment, "You got married over here too?"
Wang Mingyi felt as though his head was about to explode. "What on earth are you talking nonsense for? When on earth did I ever marry Wang Chunhua?"
Hearing this, Wang Chunhua's chest heaved with anger. Just as she was about to retort, someone tugged at her clothes, and she forcefully swallowed the words back.
The woman who had asked the question was named Yang Huafang. Seeing Wang Mingyi deny everything, she wore an anxious expression. "Brother Wang, this is rather ungentriful of you. Sister Chunhua brought the children and came all the way from the countryside to Kyoto just to find you—it's been nearly five years, hasn't it?"
"Who the hell are you?" Wang Mingyi finally lost his temper and snapped at her.
Wang Chunhua's clothes were tugged at once more. She instantly understood. Stepping forward two paces, she wore a look of bitter grief and aggrieved tone, "Mingyi, have you really gotten married here again?"
These words clearly validated what Yang Huafang had said, and murmurs broke out among the crowd.
"Could this Teacher Wang really be a modern-day Chen Shimei?"
"It certainly looks like it, but he's an intellectual, so we shouldn't jump to conclusions."
"There are plenty of intellectuals who do such heartless things. Wasn't Chen Shimei an intellectual himself?"
"That is truly ungrateful and heartless."
"If that's the case, are those two boys Teacher Wang's children as well?"
At this, many gazes fell back upon the two brothers.
"That younger one really does look quite a bit like Teacher Wang."
"Especially the nose, it really is a dead ringer."
Wang Mingyi finally reached his breaking point. Dropping his bicycle, he stepped forward and gave Wang Chunhua a shove. "How much longer are you going to make an unreasonable scene?"
"Why is he hitting someone?"
"With so many people watching, he still dares to use violence. So much for being an intellectual; I'd say he's more of a thug!"
The balance in some people's hearts had already tilted heavily in Wang Chunhua's favor.
Wang Chunhua stepped back two aggrieved steps, her words dripping with lingering affection. "Mingyi, if I were making an unreasonable scene, I should have reported you to your school back when you were messing around with my younger sister, He Xiangcao.
"At that time, you begged me to spare you, saying that if anyone found out, everything you had would be ruined in an instant.
"I believed you, and I raised the children while running a street stall outside, waiting for you. But the moment you graduated, you vanished into thin air with my sister."
A bombshell of information, escalating layer by layer, caused an immediate uproar in the crowd. "Oh my god, he actually hooked up with his own sister-in-law."
"Damn him, this is bigamy and hooliganism!"
"I never would have guessed."
Wang Mingyi felt it hard to breathe, his blood rushing backward. Losing all reason for a moment, he glared at Wang Chunhua with bloodshot eyes and roared, "If you dare talk any more nonsense, I'll have you sent to the police station!"
He felt that today's Wang Chunhua was completely different from before. In the past, she would throw chaotic, tearful tantrums to vent, and after he uttered a few soft words of appeasement, she would let him off. How could she possibly make him lose face in public like this?
At worst, if he scared her and intimidated her, along with that sudden woman now staring at him and shaking her head with a frown, the current situation was looking very unfavorable for him.
If she were making a scene and rolling on the ground, he would put on the airs of an intellectual, offering smooth words of persuasion, and public opinion would generally side with him.
Yet right now, he had a nagging feeling that something wasn't right.
Upon hearing this, Yang Huafang immediately pulled Wang Chunhua back. "Sister Chunhua, since he wants to make a scene at the police station, just go with him. Wasting your breath here will only make people think you're wronging him.
"If you need witnesses, I'll have my father mail your wedding invitation over and find a few people to testify."
Wang Mingyi was dumbfounded. Turning his head, he glared fiercely at Yang Huafang. "Who do you think you are, spouting nonsense here? I don't even know you."
Seeing that he was already enraged, Yang Huafang fabricated another remark. "Do university students of your advanced age always have such a selective memory? You forget you were married, you forget hooking up with your wife's younger sister, and not remembering me is hardly surprising."
She brought up the matter of Wang Mingyi and He Xiangcao once again. Although the incident with He Xiangcao had caused quite a stir back then, over four years had passed, and no one had immediately connected the two instances of He Xiangcao.
The neighbors grew increasingly suspicious as they listened, their expressions slowly shifting. Just at that moment, someone shouted, "Make way, Teacher Wang's wife is here."
People love nothing more than a good spectacle, and Li琼's arrival evidently fueled everyone's thirst for gossip even further. The crowd quickly parted to clear a path.
Li琼 walked into the center and saw Wang Mingyi standing before Wang Chunhua with a terribly dark expression. She stepped forward and asked, "What is going on here?"
Flustered, Wang Mingyi hurried over to Li琼 and gingerly supported her by the waist, feigning concern. "Why did you come out? With so many people around, what would happen if you startled the baby?"
Watching his ingratiating demeanor and recalling the days when she was held in the palm of his hand, Wang Chunhua felt a chill in her heart. From the time she carried Wang Tao to Wang河, this bastard had never once shown her such care.
How on earth had she been blind enough to fall for such a creature?
Li琼 glanced at Wang Chunhua and the child holding her hand, her mood sinking instantly. The neighbor who had knocked on her door earlier to report the news had told her the absolute truth.
Seeing her poor complexion, Wang Mingyi hurriedly explained, "I have nothing to do with her. She just gave me some financial help back in the countryside."
With that, he strode over to Wang Chunhua. "Stop making a scene. I'll give you two hundred yuan, take the kids and get out of here quickly."
Someone lightly tugged at the back of Wang Chunhua's clothes twice. Knowing everyone was in place, she glanced at Li琼 and said, "She still owes my sister eighteen thousand yuan. I suppose most of the money you used to buy this house was swindled from her, right?"
Li琼 fell silent. This house had been bought by Wang Mingyi. When they were getting married, her father had said that although he was a college student, he had neither a job nor a home, and he had to provide at least one of the two.
Just like that, Wang Mingyi had spent over thirty thousand yuan to buy this three-bedroom apartment in the residential complex. For someone who had graduated without a job to suddenly possess such a huge sum of money to buy property—she hadn't questioned it deeply before, but now that the woman in front of her brought it up, her heart instantly leaped into her throat.
"Wang Chunhua, if you dare talk any more nonsense, I won't be polite to you." Wang Mingyi's eyes were red with fury.
Wang Chunhua nodded. "You can be impolite to me in a moment."
With that, she pulled a recording pen from her pocket and held it up high. Many people had never seen such a device, including Wang Mingyi, and they simply looked on with curiosity.
Wang Chunhua pressed the button on the recording pen, and Wang Mingyi's voice rang out from it.
"Look at what you've turned the son into. Hurry up and tell him to let go. If there's something to discuss, let's go over there and talk."
"So you still remember he's your son."
"Let go, Dad will find a place to talk things over with you in detail."
"We'll discuss the details right here. Once I'm satisfied, my mom and I will let you go."
"Tao! Is his name Wang Tao?"
As the recording finished playing, some people were struck dumb with astonishment, while others erupted in uproar.
Li琼 felt her legs turn completely to jelly, and she collapsed limply to the ground.
As for Wang Mingyi, his complexion had turned entirely the color of a pig's liver.
