Chapter 94: She Knows Everything Now
Lin Xi tossed the clothes in her hands aside and called Bai Xu back directly.
Perhaps he was getting back at her for not answering his call earlier, because the phone rang for a long time before it was finally picked up, just as it was about to disconnect automatically.
"Have you seen the message?" Bai Xu’s tone was light, none of the urgency he’d shown when he’d called her before.
Their roles had reversed, and the moment the call connected, Lin Xi couldn’t wait to demand, "You told him, didn’t you?"
One person acts, one person bears the consequences.
Anyone else would have lied here.
After all, if he admitted it, Lin Xi would certainly be furious.
But Bai Xu’s mind always worked differently from others. He simply didn’t.
He admitted it openly, "Yes."
Lin Xi’s brows knit tightly, her fingers gripping the phone so hard her knuckles were white. "Bai Xu!"
She was so angry her voice trembled.
From the moment he called her—or rather, from the moment he decided to tell Qin Yu—he’d been prepared to face Lin Xi’s wrath, and he had guessed she would be angry.
Bai Xu chuckled softly, "Why are you calling me now? Didn’t I at least give you a heads-up?"
Lin Xi didn’t reply.
She wasn’t pretending to be silent; she was thinking.
She really didn’t know which curse she should spit out first.
After a moment, Lin Xi laughed, a note of mockery in her voice. "Bai Xu, you really are something else."
On the other end, Bai Xu’s expression shifted slightly.
"I..." He moved his lips, instinctively wanting to explain, but forced himself to stop before the words left his mouth.
Explanation was never his style.
He had nothing to say.
Whether what he’d done was right or wrong, he disdained explanations.
He pressed his lips together and said, "Forget it, it doesn’t matter now."
"Third Brother really is generous for your sake. You’ll never guess what he promised me."
"I’ll guess your damn business!" Lin Xi’s anger flared. "I’m truly done with you. If you wanted to use my situation for a deal, where were you all those years ago?"
Why did he have to stir up trouble now!
"Weren’t you the one who told me to keep it secret back then?" His tone was almost innocent.
"And now? Didn’t I also say not to mention it to Qin Yu!"
Bai Xu was unconcerned, "Ah, I forgot."
This time, Lin Xi truly couldn’t hold back—a foul curse escaped her lips.
If Lin Chen were still around, hearing her swear, he’d drag her into the yard to stand in punishment and admonish her with, "A young lady shouldn’t speak such vulgar words."
Taking a deep breath, Lin Xi gave up on arguing right or wrong with Bai Xu.
He was doing it on purpose, no reason needed.
What kind of deal could he possibly make with Qin Yu?
Did Bai Xu lack anything? He was the only son of the Bai family, spoiled by all, lacking nothing.
He was simply intent on escalating the conflict, eager to watch the drama unfold.
"You don’t need to be so angry. So what if Third Brother knows? He was bound to find out eventually. Did you really think you could keep it from him?"
Bai Xu was confident, his tone devoid of guilt, as if he wanted credit for it.
Lin Xi laughed, "Then should I thank Young Master Bai?"
"Don’t mention it," he replied.
A moment later, Lin Xi delivered another "cordial greeting."
"I never intended to tell, but you didn’t open the door for me, didn’t answer my call, so I had to leave with Third Brother. There was nothing else I could do."
He naturally shifted the blame onto her. "You and Third Brother were both in the room, both heard me knocking. But you didn’t open the door. I don’t know if it was your decision or his, but it doesn’t matter now."
There was a hint of revenge in his words.
Lin Xi gritted her teeth, "Not only did I not open the door for you today, you can forget about ever stepping through my door again in this lifetime."
"Is that so?" Bai Xu laughed. "But the place you’re living in now doesn’t seem to be your home, does it? Strictly speaking… it should be Third Brother’s home."
Lin Xi caught the key point in his words, a thought flashing instantly through her mind. "This place is registered under Qin Yu’s name?"
"How should I know?" Bai Xu laughed.
He dangled the bait, but refused to confirm.
"Third Brother should be arriving soon, are you sure you want to keep talking to me?"
Upon hearing this, Lin Xi didn’t hesitate. She hung up and blocked his number, all in one fluid motion.
Bai Xu, that bastard.
Annoyed, Lin Xi raked her fingers through her hair and called Cheng Si.
"Hello, little sister." Cheng Si answered instantly, chuckling awkwardly. "So late… you’re still up?"
Cheng Si assumed Lin Xi was calling about him sending her on a business trip to Huasheng.
But Lin Xi didn’t even bother with pleasantries. Her tone was sharp, "The place I’m living in now—is it Qin Yu’s house?"
That night at the banquet, Lin Xi had mentioned wanting to buy the place.
Third Brother had already spoken to him about it in advance.
But both he and Lin Xi had been busy, so neither was in a rush. They planned to deal with the house next month when they had time.
Recently, the house had been transferred to his name, just to keep Lin Xi from suspecting anything.
He and Third Brother had thought through everything.
So how had Lin Xi found out?
Unable to figure out who had spilled the beans, Cheng Si dared not answer directly. He laughed, "Where did you hear that, Xi Bao? It’s registered under my name."
"Don’t listen to others talking nonsense. It’s just a house, would Fourth Brother really deceive you?"
"What would I gain, right?"
Lin Xi didn’t argue. "Really?"
Cheng Si gritted his teeth. "Really."
"Alright, I understand." Lin Xi’s tone suddenly went calm. "Sorry to disturb your rest, Fourth Brother."
Hearing her tone, Cheng Si knew something was wrong.
The doorbell rang behind her. Lin Xi glanced at the door and said to Cheng Si, "I’ll hang up now, Third Brother is here."
"Ah..." Cheng Si was stunned. "Alright."
The call ended. Cheng Si stared at his phone, lost in thought.
Why did it feel like the calm before a storm?
And hadn’t Third Brother gone to see Lin Xi earlier? Shouldn’t he have already returned by now?
Why… was he there again?
Cheng Si was full of questions, uncertain what was going on over there, but he had a bad feeling about it.
Meanwhile, Lin Xi set her phone down and sat on the sofa.
The doorbell rang for a while before stopping.
Lin Xi brewed a pot of tea and waited in silence.
Not two minutes later, the sound of someone entering a code came from outside.
As she looked up, the door was pushed open from outside, and Qin Yu appeared once again in her line of sight.
"Third Brother, you’re right on time," Lin Xi raised an eyebrow. "The tea is ready."
