Qin Yu: "I hope everything goes well for you, and not just so that I can have my wish fulfilled."

Lin Xi froze in place.

At a little past ten in the evening, a light rain was falling in Beijing.

After finishing her evening routine, Lin Xi sat on the balcony, staring blankly at the nearby Feiyun Building.

When her phone rang, she didn't even look at the screen to know who was calling.

Pressing the speakerphone button, she placed the phone back on the table and pulled her blanket tightly around herself, covering her hands and feet completely.

"Is it over?" Cheng Si asked impatiently.

When he and Bai Xu came out of the movie theater, Qin Yu and Lin Xi had long since vanished, so they hadn't continued following them.

He had no idea where the two of them had gone, but earlier he had seen Lin Xi repost an article from Feiyun's official WeChat account on her Moments.

Figuring she had time to share such things, she should have been home by now.

"Mhm."

Lin Xi's voice was very soft, and combined with the sound of the rain outside, Cheng Si didn't catch it clearly and asked again.

She said, "It's over. I got back forty minutes ago."

"So after the movie, there were other activities? Where did you go?"

"We just sat at a small bistro across from the theater for a while, nowhere else."

Cheng Si: "..."

He seemed to have driven right past that area earlier.

And yet they hadn't bumped into each other.

"So how did it feel?" Cheng Si probed for details eagerly. "Any thoughts?"

As if anticipating what she would say, Cheng Si quickly added, "Don't try to brush me off."

Lin Xi thought about it carefully, and only after a long pause did she say, "I gained some insights. It was a bit different from what I imagined."

She had thought it would be extremely awkward and abrupt.

This response was far too diplomatic; hearing it felt no different to Cheng Si than hearing nothing at all. But upon second thought, Lin Xi hadn't done it on purpose.

He switched to a more direct question. "After going through the whole routine tonight, was there any moment when your heart fluttered?"

"Something like an accelerated breath and heartbeat, just like finishing an eight-hundred-meter run."

His comparison sounded a bit ridiculous, but when Lin Xi recalled the moment, she realized it really had been like that.

Not wanting to lie, she answered honestly, "Yes."

The moment he heard this, Cheng Si knew victory was assured.

Stopping while he was ahead, he didn't press further. "Then next time, see when you're free, and I'll help arrange something again?"

Lin Xi didn't refuse either. "Let's wait until I get back from my business trip."

"Alright." A growing smile touched Cheng Si's face. "Then make sure to get your things ready, and we'll gather at the company that day. I'll be counting on you for the coming week."

Lin Xi: "It's only right. Whether I work hard or not doesn't matter, as long as it helps President Cheng become the richest man in Beijing."

Cheng Si laughed for a long time after hearing that. "Then whether I can become the richest man or not depends entirely on Engineer Lin."

Over the weekend, Lin Xi stayed briefly at the old family courtyard for two days.

As soon as her eldest aunt heard she was going abroad, especially after hearing the destination, she assumed Lin Xi was planning not to return again.

Biting into a peach, Lin Xi said softly, "No, it's just a business trip. Only for a week."

"Since I have to lead the team, I couldn't turn it down."

Since it was for work, her eldest aunt couldn't say much more. "That's convenient then; you'll have time to go visit your uncle while you're there."

"Mhm," Lin Xi nodded. "I'll head over to the neighboring city tomorrow after work. Grandmother has some things she wants me to take along."

"By the way, do you have any plans for the Spring Festival this year?" her eldest aunt asked.

"The Spring Festival?" Counting it out, it was only three months away. "Won't I just be at home?"

"Don't you want to go out and travel? Aren't they all doing some kind of New Year travel trend these days?"

Lin Xi shook her head. "I don't want to go out."

"You, how do you keep getting more and more of a homebody?" Her eldest aunt paused her movements, her gaze lingering for a moment. "Take a look at this, Xixi."

She handed her tablet over to Lin Xi.

On the screen was an emerald necklace.

"It's quite pretty." Glancing at the description below, Lin Xi understood immediately. "The auction is right near my hotel. If you like it, I can take a look when I'm there."

"Will it interrupt your work?"

"How could it?" Lin Xi smiled. "I rest in the evenings, plenty of time. Even a donkey from the production team needs a break sometimes, after all."

Her eldest aunt laughed and patted her arm. "Who talks about themselves like that?"

"Then if you have time, go take a look for me." Her eldest aunt gave her a price range to keep in mind. "If the price is right, bring it back for your aunt."

Lin Xi agreed, "Alright."

——

Early Wednesday morning, the Feiyun exhibition team arrived at the airport. Because they had a fair amount of equipment, they brought quite a bit of luggage, and checking it all in took quite a while.

In total, Feiyun had sent a dozen people this time.

Aside from two or three female colleagues from Lin Xi's R&D department, the only other woman from any other department was Cheng Si's little niece, whose name seemed to be Nan Ge.

After boarding, the two of them sat together. Once on the plane, the younger girl didn't rest, instead continuously reviewing product introductions in an attempt to memorize them.

Lin Xi didn't disturb her, putting on her headphones to get some rest.

When she woke up again, it was lunchtime. Lin Xi wasn't very hungry and just ate a little.

Catching sight of the notes beside her, Lin Xi raised an eyebrow, "You still haven't finished memorizing?"

"Still half left." Nan Ge scratched her head and replied in a small voice, "I came here with a mission this time, too. Uncle said he'd send someone to keep an eye on me, and if I hold everyone back, he'll transfer me to the logistics cafeteria to wash dishes when I get back."

Lin Xi: "..."

"I heard you're already a sales department manager?"

At this, the other girl waved her hands in panic. "No, no, no! How long have I even been with the company? Though... I suppose it'll be soon."

The young girl had no hidden motives, and since the two had met before, she spoke her mind freely without holding anything back or putting on airs.

Lin Xi couldn't help but laugh. "I heard you landed a major project?"

"That one hasn't been signed yet; it'll probably be next year." Nan Ge giggled. "Once that project is finalized, I guess I'll practically be there."

"Mhm," Lin Xi nodded, glanced at her notes, and finally advised, "The most important ones are these four products. Just get thoroughly familiar with these four first."

"Got it!"

Seeing that Lin Xi was going back to sleep, Nan Ge handed over a pair of earplugs she had nearby, asking in a low voice, "Sister, do you want to switch to these earplugs? Uncle noticed you weren't around this morning and gave them to me. He said these work much better."

"Thank you." Lin Xi didn't take them right away, asking first, "Don't you need them?"

"I don't use these, I'm not afraid of noise. I can fall asleep anywhere."

Only then did Lin Xi accept them.

The moment she lay down, Nan Ge consciously quieted herself down, making her presence as small as possible.

When the plane landed, Lin Xi felt some discomfort in her ears, but fortunately, Nan Ge started chatting with her just in time, quickly distracting her.

As soon as she got off the plane, Lin Xi received a call from Cheng Si.

"I reckon I can make it over for the last two days."

"No worries," Lin Xi pushed her luggage as she walked at the front of the group. "It's fine even if you don't come. You can trust me."

"Of course I trust you. I'm just worried that kid won't be reliable. Do me a favor and keep an eye on her these next few days."

Lin Xi glanced back at Nan Ge, who was trotting to keep up, and replied, "Alright, I know."
