Chapter 103: Visiting Qin Yu

No one knew when Lin Xi would return home, nor if she ever would. But Qin Yu made all the necessary preparations regardless.

He prepared everything he could think of—clothing, food, shelter, transportation. And then, he waited quietly for Lin Xi for seven years.

That was why Cheng Si had teased him before, calling him a “devoted dog.” Who could have imagined that Qin Yu would go to such lengths for a woman? It was love engraved in his bones.

Yet, even after all was said, Lin Xi remained indifferent. She said nothing, only lifted her head and stared at him blankly.

“Forget it,” Cheng Si said, raising his hand to gently pat her head. “Fourth Brother only wants you to know that Third Brother is serious. What he’s done is worth your knowing.”

“As for everything else… it’s up to you.”

He withdrew his hand, lifted his chin and smiled at her. “Go upstairs.”

Being caught in the middle was truly uncomfortable. Cheng Si’s heart wavered wildly between both sides.

He hoped Lin Xi would respond to Third Brother after hearing all this, but he also feared Lin Xi felt nothing at all, turning these words into a kind of emotional coercion.

Lin Xi smiled and got straight to the point. “Manager Wang, did you receive an anonymous email this morning?”

“That’s good.” Lin Xi said, “I originally wanted to explain in person, but something urgent came up at home and I had to return to Beijing first.”

Manager Wang was fairly polite, “It’s nothing serious, you don’t need to worry about it.”

Even if he said so, Lin Xi couldn’t take it at face value.

“I was worried there might be a miscommunication, so I thought it best to call you personally and explain.”

“Engineer Chen didn’t know the actual situation then. I’ve been busy with family matters lately, so he wasn’t sure why I was sent on a business trip, and he complained a bit on my behalf. The other party took things out of context and didn’t capture the rest of our conversation. Engineer Chen and I have no objections to this cooperation.”

“We’ve always held Huasheng’s R&D department in high regard. You’re all industry veterans, and we have absolutely no complaints.”

Lin Xi was nothing if not sincere.

Manager Wang paused for two seconds, then gave a dry laugh. “You’re being too polite, Team Leader Lin. It was just a minor misunderstanding—no one here minds.”

“Work is busy for everyone; it’s normal to vent a bit in private.”

“Your call shows how much you value this.”

“Yes,” Lin Xi replied. “Actually, when I first learned about this, I went straight to the company to find you. Unfortunately, I didn’t catch you. Otherwise, I would have explained and apologized face-to-face.”

“As long as you’re not upset, Manager Wang.”

“Not upset, not at all,” Manager Wang replied. “How could I be? It’s completely understandable. The person who sent those screenshots is up to no good—we won’t fall for their tricks.”

“You’re absolutely right.”

Since the air was cleared, there was nothing more to say. Lin Xi wrapped it up, “It’s getting late, so I won’t disturb you further. If anything comes up, you can contact me directly. This is my number, please save it.”

Manager Wang: “Of course, I will.”

It was already ten o’clock at night.

But sleep eluded her; she was wide awake.

Only she knew the reason.

By eleven o’clock, Lin Xi, exhausted, closed her eyes.

“Which room is Qin Yu in?”

At the nurse’s station, the night shift nurse snapped awake at the mention of his name.

She sized Lin Xi up, frowned. “We don’t have any patient by that name.”

Qin Yu must have arranged for this in advance.

Lin Xi didn’t know how to explain herself, so she called Cheng Si.

“Yes, what is it, little sister?” Cheng Si was just about to rest.

His voice was still sleepy, as if he was about to doze off.

“I’m at the hospital. Could you notify the staff so I can visit Third Brother?”

The room was dark. Lin Xi pushed the door open, relying on the corridor’s light to make out her path.

Once inside, the nurse turned on a night lamp for her and left.

Lin Xi gazed at the sleeping figure on the bed for a while, then sighed and sat down on the chair by his side.
