Volume One, Chapter 20: Wu Xun, Who Seeks to Harm Me?
Su Nianxi’s answers were so abstract that even Lin Yue refused to believe them. Every time she guessed wrong, she had to write an extra question.
Thus, the following conversation unfolded:
Song Shian: “If you always come first in every exam, but suddenly this time you come in last, what is that called?”
“Didn’t cheat?” Su Nianxi tilted her head.
...
Song Shian: “What is an indispensable daily human behavior?”
“Being annoying?”
“One word, something like ‘public notice’?”
“Chicken cubes?”
The audience watching the live stream burst into laughter.
[Others charge money for talking, but Su Nianxi’s words are literally life-threatening! How does her mind work? Every sentence is a golden quote.]
[Su Nianxi, be honest, have you been staying up all night memorizing jokes? I’m rolling on the floor laughing.]
[Yes, this is how my mysterious game of charades goes.]
[If I’d known it would be this entertaining, I would have saved it for the Spring Festival Gala. Dying of laughter.]
Su Nianxi stared at the screen, recalling her actions that day carefully. She felt it wasn’t her fault — it was clearly Song Shian’s descriptions that were too misleading.
Regardless, her witty remarks quickly made it to the top trending topics on Weibo, greatly boosting the show’s popularity.
Her Weibo account also gained a surge of new followers.
“This variety show really was the right choice,” Xiao Qu said sincerely as she looked at Su Nianxi’s comment section gradually flooded with fans. “Nian Nian, your followers are growing fast.”
“Ah, maybe it’s just my personal charm,” Su Nianxi replied lazily, basking in her own vanity.
“Teacher Su, sorry to bother you!” Just as the two were chatting, the door to the dressing room opened again. A crew member peeked in and greeted Su Nianxi.
“Congratulations on passing your assessment! Here’s your new mission card!” The staff smiled as he handed over a card.
Su Nianxi glanced at the card’s contents and slowly read aloud, “...Two days of martial arts training?”
“Yes, since our short film has a traditional martial arts background, it involves some fight scenes, so you’ll need some basic training,” the crew member explained.
“Ugh...” Su Nianxi was already numb. “I just have one question.”
“Go ahead,” the staff smiled brightly.
“My weapon?”
“Oh, a waist-high broadsword.”
Su Nianxi: “...”
Heh, she was about to swap roles with Ye Zhixia.
...
Though reluctant, Su Nianxi eventually yielded to Director Mu’s authority and obediently went to the martial arts training base.
Since the short film was only about half an hour long, the fight choreographer didn’t put them through harsh training, just getting them familiar with wire work and teaching some basic combat moves on wires.
As the female lead, Su Nianxi was the first to go up on the wires.
Having acted in many period dramas in her past life and with her Taekwondo foundation, she quickly adapted to the complex fight choreography.
[Su Nianxi is surprisingly skilled and looks pretty cool.]
[Weren’t her previous period dramas mostly done with stunt doubles? Finally, she’s willing to do it herself this time.]
[Wait, did you notice the wire on her right side? Something seems off.]
The live stream was already packed with curious viewers.
In the past few days, due to Su Nianxi’s witty remarks and the show’s popularity, it had unexpectedly crossed over to a wider audience. Just half an hour into the broadcast, there were already over one million viewers in the chatroom.
The last comment disappeared amidst a flood of bullet comments without attracting much attention.
Meanwhile, on the wires, Su Nianxi herself sensed that something was wrong.
She furrowed her brows slightly and glanced back at the safety harness around her waist.
Something wasn’t right.
“Let’s do another set of rolling moves,” the fight choreographer shouted from below.
Suspended mid-air, Su Nianxi felt the harness strap around her waist loosen, almost slipping off.
“Wait a moment,” she gestured to pause and raised her voice.
The instructor below heard her and told the crew holding the safety ropes behind to “hold still.”
However, before he finished speaking, the wire suddenly jerked violently out of control.
In an instant, the safety buckle on Su Nianxi’s right side completely detached. The massive momentum dragged her off balance, causing the wire to pull her toward the ground.
Viewers watching the live stream screamed in horror, and the chatroom quickly filled with panicked emojis.
The incident occurred so suddenly that even Su Nianxi hadn’t expected the rope to snap so quickly. Fortunately, with her martial arts background, she instinctively used the momentum to roll on the floor and landed steadily on the carpet.
“Nian Nian!” Xiao Qu was the first to rush over and hug her.
Behind them, the pale-faced fight choreographer and crew members hurried forward, surrounding Su Nianxi.
“Teacher Su, are you okay?”
“Where are you hurt?”
Voices of concern echoed around her ears. She rubbed her shoulder, which was slightly twisted from the roll, and grit her teeth.
“I’m fine. Stay away from me.”
Saying that, she stood up and walked toward the snapped safety cable.
In the live stream, the audience was already terrified.
“Ahhh, falling from that height, is Queen Su really okay? I don’t want to lose such a good friend on the internet!”
“Sniffle, I don’t like you much, Su Nianxi, but I still don’t want to see you get hurt.”
“This is terrifying. Has the production team really ensured safety? This is way too scary!!”
“Ahhh, so scary. But to be fair, Su Nianxi’s landing move just now was amazing. Did she train before?”
“Heh, it’s acting, right? Su Nianxi is starting to tease her fans.”
“Roll up there! This is live! Try acting like that after falling from such a height!”
Amid the heated debate, Su Nianxi picked up the torn rope and looked at the clean cut on the edge. She couldn’t help but sneer.
“Director Mu, there’s a bad person in the crowd.”
“Huh? What do you mean? Someone deliberately cut it?”
“I saw it clearly in the footage just now. The rope definitely looks like it was cut.”
“Damn, that’s attempted murder! Who’s so bold?”
“What kind of show is this? Isn’t this going too far?”
The crew’s faces stiffened at Su Nianxi’s words.
The safety team responsible for the wires turned pale.
“Teacher Su, we checked all the wires this morning, everything was normal. How could this happen...?”
“I don’t know either,” Su Nianxi narrowed her eyes. “Whoever dares to come forward and confess — who wants to harm me?”
“Check the surveillance footage,” Director Mu’s face was as cold as water. “Shooting stops today. Whoever did this must be found.”
