Xiao Qu casually picked up the phone Su Nianxi had tossed aside. Just one glance, and her mind felt as if doused with icy water—sharp and clear like a Russian bear swimming through a hole carved in an ice river.

“Nian, we have to go to City A tomorrow afternoon to record your album and shoot the MV,” Xiao Qu said, already swiftly checking flight information.

“Tomorrow?” Su Nianxi paused. “Doesn’t the production team still have a live broadcast scheduled?”

“Yeah, I don’t know how the company arranged this, but they’ve crammed the schedule so tightly.” Xiao Qu frowned, swiping the screen. “At the latest, we have to book a flight at 1 p.m., so we can probably only attend half the recording.”

“Alright, you book it first. I’ll ask Director Mu for leave later.” Su Nianxi frowned slightly, sensing this was a deliberate move by the company.

“By the way,” she hesitated before speaking again, “has the company mentioned anything about contract renewal recently?”

Her contract was nearing its end. She might have been indifferent before, but now her popularity was still high, and it made no sense for the company to be so quiet, almost like a quail.

“Not that I’ve heard,” Xiao Qu scratched his head, equally puzzled. “I’ll keep an eye out and let you know if anything comes up.”

“Okay,” Su Nianxi responded calmly.

She had the future planned out almost perfectly—she only hoped Xinglan wouldn’t interfere now.

.

The Next Day.

Early in the morning, the trainees were summoned by the director’s relentless calls to the rehearsal room.

Today’s live broadcast content was script reading and individual rehearsals.

When a few arrived, it was just past 7:30 a.m. Ling Xiyue entered the rehearsal hall yawning, dragging a brand-new script.

Then he stared silently at the empty room.

So, was he the only one punctual in this crew?

Meanwhile, viewers commuting on their way to work empathized in the live chat.

“Yueyue, I get you. If I were rushing to catch the 3-yuan subway, squeezing into the 2-yuan bus, exhausted, and got to the office to find I’m the only one here, I’d want to smash them too.”

“Is this what youth’s relaxation looks like? I love it.”

“Hey, did anyone else notice Yueyue hasn’t even flipped through his script? Turns out stars don’t like memorizing lines either.”

As the audience vented their workday woes in the comments, it took about half an hour for all the trainees to arrive gradually.

Su Nianxi lay face down on the script, so sleepy she thought perhaps this brick-like script would make a decent pillow.

With Song Shian’s solemn chanting of the Great Compassion Mantra beside her, she thought sleeping for three days and nights wouldn’t be excessive.

“The smoke of war rises in the north, the dragon banner flutters, horses neigh long, sword aura like frost…”

Just as the rehearsal hall was about to drift off into a slumbering kingdom, a strong, resonant voice pierced the air.

Hearing it from the broadcast, Song Shian snapped upright sharply.

His sudden movement startled the drowsy Su Nianxi awake.

“What’s up?” she asked, puzzled.

“Nothing,” Song Shian said, as if getting used to his own body again. “Feels like I’m back in high school.”

“Hmm,” Su Nianxi mused over the nostalgic music, feeling as if she had returned to a time before she became the ‘villainess.’

But then, looking down at the dense lines in front of her, she wilted again.

“Who would’ve thought, during college finals, I’d imagine myself at a script reading to memorize key points, and could memorize everything effortlessly. Now, I just think I was crazy back then,” she said, curling her lips into a smile both faintly bitter and mocking.

Song Shian was even more shocked: “You went to college?”

“Thank you, I’m an undergraduate from S University,” Su Nianxi replied politely.

It was unclear whether it was coincidence or fate, but the original character, apparently modeled after her by a black fan, had graduated from the same university and major as her.

“Oh, sorry about that,” Song Shian said, burying his head in the sand again.

[Hahaha, damn, you actually went to college. No wonder the ‘Su Empress’ has her madness refined by university.]

[But I have to say, Su Nianxi’s way of memorizing test points is great. Just thinking I’m a big star at a script reading helps me focus on this cheap script.]

[Really? Then can I act diva and refuse to study lines? Teacher, you understand, right?]

[Wake up! That’s your teacher, not your lover.]

Amidst the jokes and banter, everyone finally began to wake up and start the script reading session.

Though it was said to be a group reading, Song Xiao and Ye Zhixia barely spoke due to their minimal roles.

Song Xiao sat with his brows furrowed deeply.

“Does discussing the script really take this long?” he glanced at the clock. “It’s been three hours already.”

Upon hearing this, Su Nianxi glanced at him and replied nonchalantly, “Yes, dear, because our script is like a brick, while yours is like a flyer.”

Song Xiao’s expression darkened further.

Ye Zhixia quietly patted his hand, signaling him to calm down—they were still live streaming.

Song Xiao frowned but lowered his head, saying no more.

[Ahhh, it’s still our sweet Xiao Ye. As soon as Xia Xia speaks, Xiao Ge immediately quiets down.]

[What has Xiao Ge been turned into? Queen Xia Xia, please teach us.]

[Sweet and comforting. Only our Xia Xia can soothe Xiao Xiao.]

The fans in the chat were thoroughly entertained. Sometimes Su Nianxi even wondered if they could get excited over two wooden stakes put together.

Fortunately, she wouldn’t be stuck in this battlefield of endless CP wars for much longer.

Because…

“Sorry everyone, I’m done recording for today. My private jet has arrived, and I have to rush to another engagement,” Su Nianxi said, waving to the other students as Xiao Qu appeared at the door.

“Huh? Teacher Su, you even have a private jet?” Song Shian sometimes really seemed like an innocent fool, saying such naive things with his incredibly handsome face.

“Well, yes,” Su Nianxi smiled and nodded. “I booked a private ticket, and the plane has arrived at the terminal. I have to get to the airport quickly. See you tomorrow.”

With that, she grabbed the “brick” script and dashed off, leaving the others exchanging glances and pondering her ‘private jet’ excuse.

[2025’s new term explained: private jet means a plane you personally booked a ticket for. Su Nianxi, you make me laugh so hard.]

[Wait, I was wondering if Su Nianxi’s family was that rich to own a private plane, and it turns out this is what it means.]

[Su Empress, I won’t scold you anymore. I will support you—you’re truly my source of joy.]

Whether she felt happy or not, Su Nianxi was currently sprinting toward the terminal with Xiao Qu.

One had to admit, Xiao Qu was a dedicated assistant—even at this point, he didn’t forget to update her on work information.

“Nian Nian, here’s the thing: yesterday, we asked about the identity of the person who pinned the hot search post about Xiao Yueqing.”

“Who?” Su Nianxi called out as she kept running.

“It’s Xiao Yueqing,” Xiao Qu replied.

“I know it was her hot search, I’m asking about the person who posted the gossip.”

“Um, yes, it’s Xiao Yueqing herself,” Xiao Qu nodded.
