Volume One, Chapter 1: Crossing into a Novel as the Cannon Fodder Female Supporting Character
In early summer, in City S.
The afternoon sun filtered through snow-white gauze curtains, casting mottled patterns of light and shadow across the living room floor.
On the sofa, a girl in white loungewear lounged lazily sunk into the cushions, half-lidded eyes lifting as she stretched with careless ease.
With that movement, a strip of her pale, slender waist was briefly revealed.
So dazzling it almost hurt to look at.
On the coffee table beside her, her phone was carrying an outraged male voice: “Su Nianxi! You’re absolutely disgusting. You think buying a few joint publicity posts means you can force me to accept this engagement? Dream on!”
At such melodramatic lines, the girl on the sofa tipped up her chin slightly and asked with languid politeness, “And you are?”
“Fine, fine. So now you’re pretending not to know me?” Hearing her answer, the man on the other end grew even angrier. Panting with fury, he snapped, “Let me tell you, Su Nianxi, once the old man’s eightieth birthday is over, I will immediately break off our engagement—”
Beep, beep...
Before he could finish, Su Nianxi reached out and ended the call with a tap.
What a mad dog, barking at the drop of a hat.
She tossed the phone carelessly onto the sofa, got to her feet, and walked toward the floor-to-ceiling mirror not far away.
As she approached, a breathtakingly beautiful girl appeared in the mirror: lashes slightly curled, a pair of dark eyes clear and calm, lips a vivid red that made her skin look even paler and more translucent. Her ink-black hair fell loosely over her shoulders, a few strands catching the sun with a soft, warm glow.
Looking at this face that was both strange and familiar, Su Nianxi let out a faint sigh.
This was the fifth day since she had crossed into this book.
As a former top idol, Su Nianxi had never imagined that one day she would transmigrate into this shameless, soap-opera-style entertainment novel written by some unknown black-hearted hater.
She had become the cannon-fodder supporting actress of the same name and surname in the story—the black-lipped, empty-headed idol Su Nianxi, drowning in scandals.
As a first-rate disposable side character, the original Su Nianxi in the novel, despite her illustrious background, existed for one purpose only: to wield a brain that was a few degrees less than Shakespeare’s, serving as the foil to the true heroine, Ye Zhixia, highlighting Ye Zhixia’s acting, singing, kindness, and beauty.
And the male lead, Song Xiao, who had been engaged to Su Nianxi since childhood, naturally fell under Ye Zhixia’s spell as well, growing both resentful and irritated by her.
The original owner had been equally lacking in sense. In order to pursue Song Xiao, she had gone so far as to feud with her family and enter the entertainment industry, only to become a tool used to advance the relationship between the male and female leads, occasionally sent out to take the heat and shield them from backlash.
Then, in the year Ye Zhixia achieved fame and won the Best Actress crown, Su Nianxi was driven out of the industry by the insults of Ye Zhixia’s fans. In the end, she was killed in a car accident after being chased by deranged fans seeking revenge.
Thinking of the ending written for her in the original novel, Su Nianxi’s gaze turned cold.
Judging from the call Song Xiao had just made, the plot had already reached the point where the Song and Ye pair publicly announced their joint appearance on an acting variety show, and the rival company, in order to sabotage Song Xiao, had sent paparazzi to expose his affair with Su Nianxi.
Of course Song Xiao could not admit it. His team moved swiftly to distance themselves from her.
That left the original owner with nowhere to defend herself. Worse still, the only photo released by the paparazzi was a blurry shot of Su Nianxi following after Song Xiao, and in the end she was torn apart online by his extreme fans until nothing remained of her reputation.
And soon, her bloodsucking company would use the fact that she had been blacklisted across the internet and was unable to fulfill her contractual obligations as an excuse to make her pay several million in breach-of-contract damages.
After that, the original owner would move from her luxury apartment into a crumbling slum and begin the miserable second half of her life.
Su Nianxi arched a brow, a mocking smile tugging at the corner of her lips.
It seemed the author had used every possible means to make the original owner take the blame.
Still, after years of rising and falling, she had long since seen through everything. In a world that was little more than a makeshift stage, there was no need to behave too normally.
In her past life, she had embraced a healthy mindset of rejecting mental self-destruction and going feral directly whenever necessary. She had ruled the domestic entertainment scene for years, and even before transmigrating, she still held the title of the top unhinged female star.
Now that she was here, there was no way she would let things proceed according to the script.
.
The trending list.
At the top of the chart, the hashtag about Su Nianxi and Song Xiao appearing together to chase love remained firmly in first place.
When one opened the discussion page, it was almost entirely filled with insults directed at Su Nianxi, with the comment section overflowing in maternal content.
Just two minutes earlier, Song Xiao’s studio had issued a response, cold and brief as a single word.
Song Xiao official: Fake.
It even came with a meme of Song Xiao himself, captioned: Do not know.
That only drove his fans even more insane. Along with the black fans, they raged at Su Nianxi, calling her a shameless clinger and plastering posters demanding that she leave the industry.
Su Nianxi glanced through the comments on the discussion page. Over and over, they were all the same few lines; the aggression was weak, the insults even weaker.
So this was all the fighting power fans had these days?
She was not afraid. Logging into her account, she fired off a set of four-character words.
Su Nianxi V: Keep your distance.
Picture: Doraemon carrying a cannon.
After posting, Su Nianxi tapped again and turned off the “followers only may comment” setting she had previously enabled.
What was the point of only looking and not commenting? No sense of participation. Perfect timing, really—she had not gone into battle in quite a while.
So, ten minutes later, when a large wave of fans and passersby followed the trail and found Su Nianxi’s comment section, they were stunned by what they saw.
_17: Yo, the shameless clinger still dares show her face? What kind of mother could have birthed such a top-tier green tea bitch?_
Su Nianxi: I’d never dare curse you. After all, some people just lift their chopsticks and make a reunion dinner.
Cold-hearted: Still not going to apologize? The one who shoved that other actress at the gala and made her fall—that was you, wasn’t it?
Below was a blurry photo of Su Nianxi standing with another actress.
Though unclear, it was obvious that the two were standing worlds apart; there was no way Su Nianxi could have pushed her.
Su Nianxi laughed at that and typed furiously.
Su Nianxi V: Be civilized, you and me and everyone else. As for framing someone, that’s just you being blind. I feel for you—so young and your brain is already as smooth as a glass marble.[tea leaves][tea leaves]
Sakura: Stop being so revolting. Brother Xiao would never be interested in a woman like you.
Su Nianxi V: Thanks for your concern, but I look down even more on fake humans whose little brains never developed properly. Tell your precious brother to go back to the furnace and be remade sooner rather than later.
summer: Heard that when the shameless clinger was photographed, she still wanted to slap the paparazzi around? What no manners.[vomit]
Su Nianxi V: Yes, I did hit him. One slap from him, and from you it would be the Dragon-Subduing Eighteen Palms.
Internet users: What a beautiful mental state.
Instantly, the hashtag about Su Nianxi going feral shot to the trending list, and along with it, screenshots of the pithy replies she had posted were pushed to the top posts as well.
By then, the black fans online were furious out of their minds. Unable to out-argue her, they could only rage helplessly on the discussion page, insisting that Su Nianxi was doing all this just to draw Song Xiao’s attention.
Who was trying to get whose attention, Su Nianxi did not care to comment on. Right now, her phone would not stop vibrating because it kept receiving messages from Song Xiao.
At last, when the phone rang for the twentieth time, Su Nianxi exited the battlefield on Weibo and opened the green app she had not used in a long time.
Looking at the more than a dozen long voice messages Song Xiao had sent, a faint trace of amusement surfaced in Su Nianxi’s eyes.
Screenshot, send. All in one smooth motion.
The next second, just as the black fans were still busy slaughtering the comment section, they heard a ding, and Su Nianxi had posted again.
Su Nianxi V: If you’re going to bark, keep a leash and a muzzle on. Stay on the road and don’t scream like a stray. Whose dog is this? Don’t forget to take it home.
And the accompanying image was exactly the screenshot of the voice messages Song Xiao had sent her.
