Chapter 49: Shang Moting Sent Me Here
After Yue Tai departed, silence returned to the villa.
The sniper on the second floor also left.
Fang Cheng stood beside Lin Ting, his brain slowly processing everything that had just unfolded before his eyes.
Lin Ting leaned back against the sofa, raising a hand to press at her eye sockets. Having focused on things for too long, her vision was becoming slightly blurred once again.
She looked at Fang Cheng and said, "Have a seat."
Fang Cheng hesitated for a moment before sitting on the sofa opposite her.
Lin Ting looked around, then went to check the kitchen. She returned holding two bottles of mineral water and handed one to Fang Cheng.
"No one is living here yet, so there's only mineral water," she remarked.
Fang Cheng took the bottle, paused for a second, and said, "Thank you."
Lin Ting offered a faint smile and sat back down on the sofa.
The two of them sat in silence for a while until Fang Cheng finally asked, "Are we not going back?"
"Let's sit for a bit," Lin Ting replied. "I got a bit of motion sickness earlier, and I'm still feeling a little unwell."
Fang Cheng glanced at her again, completely unable to detect any sign of discomfort whatsoever.
Instead... he found her somewhat terrifying.
"Don't worry, if your boss asks, I'll just say I kidnapped you. It won't make things difficult for you," Lin Ting said. "My word carries weight."
"Really?" Fang Cheng asked dubiously. "Sometimes you seem really afraid of our boss."
"Who wouldn't be afraid of him? He's Shang Moting. Just those three syllables—aren't you afraid of them?" Lin Ting countered.
Fang Cheng sealed his lips and said nothing more.
Lin Ting let out a soft laugh, paused, and added, "Still, your boss treats you all very well. He acts as your driver and even cooks for you."
Fang Cheng still remained silent.
However, a subtle shift crossed his expression.
It was almost as if he were showing off how well Shang Moting treated them.
And glowing with pride over it.
Lin Ting observed him and muttered, "Childish."
Fang Cheng instantly reverted to his previous expression and clamped his mouth shut.
The two sat quietly in the living room for a while longer.
As Lin Ting began to recover and prepared to stand up and leave, the sound of a car pulling up echoed from outside the entrance.
Lin Ting looked toward the door.
Fang Cheng immediately sprang to his feet.
Soon enough, someone stepped inside.
Lin Ting watched the newcomer enter.
He was dressed in a white casual outfit, with an exceptionally well-proportioned physique—broad shoulders, long legs, and considerable height.
His looks were striking as well.
There was a sharp yet delicate clarity to his brows and eyes.
His facial features were soft and handsome, but because his aura was excessively cold and detached, it lent an arresting sharpness to his otherwise gentle looks.
Above all, his entire person exuded a faint sense of aloofness just watching him walk over, as though there were an invisible barrier keeping everyone at a distance.
Upon seeing the arrival, Fang Cheng visibly relaxed a bit.
He stepped forward and greeted, "Young Master Lu."
Lu Jinglin, of the Lu family in the capital.
The sole scion of the Lu family.
Shang Moting's formidable reputation was, to a large extent, carved out by his own efforts.
Lu Jinglin, on the other hand, was utterly doted upon by the Lu family.
The only heir of the Lu family—whoever dared to lay a finger on him would be signing their own death warrant.
Lin Ting walked over as well.
Lu Jinglin's gaze lingered on her face for a few seconds before shifting away. "Miss Lin?"
His voice was equally detached.
Lin Ting nodded. "Hello, Young Master Lu."
Lu Jinglin gave her another glance, then looked into the living room and asked, "Where is Yue Tai?"
"He left," Lin Ting answered.
"Left?" Lu Jinglin asked with a hint of confusion.
Given the grim tone Shang Moting had used when calling him, it hadn't sounded like a situation where Yue Tai would simply up and leave after a brief moment.
Just as Fang Cheng was about to speak, Lin Ting cut in ahead of him. "Yes, that's right. He said his house blew up, so he had to rush off."
Lu Jinglin looked at Lin Ting, whose expression suggested she had no idea what was going on either, and then turned his gaze to Fang Cheng.
Fang Cheng opened his mouth, but no words came out, and in the end, he simply gave a stiff nod.
Putting it that way, his house really had blown up, metaphorically speaking.
Lu Jinglin looked back at Lin Ting.
With a completely harmless and innocent expression, Lin Ting took a step aside and said, "Young Master Lu, please come in and sit."
Lu Jinglin withdrew his gaze from her face and replied, "No need. Moting is away on a business trip and sent me over. Since everything is fine, I'll be leaving."
Lin Ting nodded. "Sorry to trouble you, Young Master Lu. I'll see you out."
"No need," Lu Jinglin stated.
With that, he turned around and left.
Out of courtesy, Lin Ting still walked him out to the front.
Six vehicles were parked outside.
Lu Jinglin got into the second car, and shortly after, the entire convoy drove away.
Traveling with this level of security was standard protocol for the young master of the Lu family.
"Why does he give off such a strong NPC vibe?" Lin Ting muttered under her breath.
Fang Cheng heard her, lowered his head, and sent a message to Shang Moting.
[She says Young Master Lu is an NPC.]
...
With the matter resolved, Lin Ting and Fang Cheng returned to the hospital.
Lin Ting stayed in the hospital room, while Fang Cheng, aside from running errands, spent all his time sitting on the chair outside the ward.
In the afternoon, Lin Ting received her intravenous infusion.
Once the infusion finished after a little over an hour, she found herself with nothing to do again.
Her vision was still somewhat blurry, and fearing it might worsen, she tried her best to avoid looking at her phone or focusing on objects.
She lay on the bed with her eyes closed, drifting in and out of a light, intermittent sleep.
When the sun finally began to set, she grew rather tired of lying down.
She got out of bed and paced around the hospital room to stretch.
While moving about, she used her phone to order takeout.
The delivery arrived very quickly.
However, Fang Cheng intercepted it outside.
Lin Ting brought the food inside; she had ordered a few small cakes and several ice cream bars.
She generously shared half of everything with Fang Cheng.
Fang Cheng ate his portion outside the ward.
Lin Ting ate hers inside the ward.
Thus, when Shang Moting returned, Fang Cheng was sitting outside eating a small cake.
And Lin Ting was inside eating an ice cream bar.
Wei Zhishu, who had frantically chased after them to the neighboring city and rushed around on a business trip all day, suffered a total mental breakdown!
"Fang Cheng! You're hogging all the good stuff! You're actually eating small cakes! Why didn't I get any?!" Wei Zhishu wailed in despair.
With a kind heart, Fang Cheng handed him an empty cake box.
Wei Zhishu's mental breakdown deepened even further.
Ignoring the two of them, Shang Moting knocked on the door and stepped into the ward.
Lin Ting was sitting by the bedside, eating her ice cream while replying to messages.
Shang Moting cast his gaze toward the bedside table.
There sat an untouched small cake alongside two empty ice cream wrappers.
Meanwhile, Lin Ting was still holding another one and eating it.
"You're back?" Lin Ting looked up at him. "That was a fast business trip."
Shang Moting stared at her and asked, "Eating this much, won't you get a stomachache?"
"Not at all. My constitution is amazing; I never get sick," Lin Ting replied.
"Then what are you doing here in the hospital?" Shang Moting asked, locking his eyes onto hers.
Lin Ting: "............"
"This is an accident," Lin Ting said smoothly, before adding, "Thanks for today, for having Young Master Lu go over and help."
Shang Moting watched her closely. "So, was it you who intercepted the message Fang Cheng tried to send me?"
The text message Fang Cheng sent him from the hospital and the message sent after encountering Yue Tai had both arrived simultaneously.
Someone had tampered with his phone.
"Huh? What?!" Lin Ting feigned extreme shock. "Fang Cheng's message to you was intercepted?!"
Shang Moting remained silent, lowering his gaze to quietly observe her.
The two stared at each other for a moment before Lin Ting broke out in feigned indignation, "Whose audacity is this big?! I'll help you investigate, and once I find out who it is, I'll teach them a harsh lesson to vent your anger!"
