Chapter 47: Mastering the Art of Persuasion
After her fever subsided, Lin Ting planned to leave the hospital, but the doctor insisted she stay a while longer to monitor her eyes and rest them. Shang Moting was equally adamant. So, she ended up staying temporarily at the hospital.
After breakfast, Shang Moting had someone bring her a change of clothes before leaving, but he left Fang Cheng behind, instructing Lin Ting to talk to him if she needed anything. She had nothing in particular to say and, feeling a bit bored, tried to strike up a conversation. However, Fang Cheng wasn’t one for small talk; he only answered questions and sometimes avoided certain ones, likely wary of her trying to pry. So Lin Ting simply lay back down in the ward and took a nap.
Fang Cheng sat quietly on a chair outside. Lin Ting slept for about two hours that morning. Upon waking, she lay in bed for a moment before sitting up, just as her phone rang. It was Qin Lu.
“Mu Mu, Yuetai has brought people and forcibly entered the villa,” Qin Lu said. “They’re looking for you.”
Yuetai was Yuemingzhou’s father. Lin Ting wasn’t surprised.
“Why didn’t he go to the hotel side?” she asked.
“Don’t know. Maybe he thought there would be too many eyes at the hotel, or perhaps he found out the villa was close to the Yuetai residence,” Qin Lu replied.
“Oh,” Lin Ting smoothed her slightly messy hair. “I haven’t even stayed at the villa yet, and they’re already breaking in.”
Qin Lu chuckled softly.
Lin Ting said, “You don’t need to do anything. I’ll head over soon.”
“Alright.” Qin Lu hung up.
Lin Ting sent a few messages, just as a nurse entered the room. Startled, she almost dropped her phone.
“Playing on your phone again secretly? Your eyes need rest,” the nurse said, handing her a thermometer. “Are you feeling uncomfortable anywhere?”
“I just glanced at my phone, and you came in right away,” Lin Ting took the thermometer. “Nothing wrong, everything’s normal. I can be discharged this afternoon.”
“You have to follow the attending doctor’s orders, and you’ll need an infusion this afternoon,” the nurse reminded her.
Lin Ting didn’t reply.
After a moment, once the thermometer showed normal temperature, the nurse left.
Hearing the door close, Lin Ting got out of bed and walked out of the ward under Fang Cheng’s watchful gaze. She strode boldly toward the elevator.
Fang Cheng watched her go, confirming she was headed to the elevator before he snapped out of it and hurried after her. He squeezed into the elevator just before the doors closed.
“What are you going to do?” Fang Cheng asked.
Lin Ting glanced at him briefly, then turned away, refusing to say.
“You can’t leave,” Fang Cheng insisted.
Lin Ting looked down, fidgeting with her fingers.
Seeing her ignore him, Fang Cheng grew anxious. He glanced at the descending floor numbers and pressed the button for the next floor.
Soon, the elevator opened on a lower floor.
Fang Cheng held the door open, signaling her to exit.
Lin Ting shot him a look, then turned away without a word.
His attempts at communication rejected, Fang Cheng was dumbfounded. He didn’t dare touch her.
“Just a reminder—this is interfering with elevator operation. This is a hospital; the elevator is vital for patients and doctors,” Lin Ting said.
Fang Cheng immediately let go.
The doors closed, and the elevator continued downward.
Lin Ting turned her back to him and secretly smiled.
As the elevator reached the first floor, Fang Cheng broke into a sweat from his anxiety.
Lin Ting stepped out.
Fang Cheng caught up and blocked her path. “Boss said you can’t go out.”
“Why should I listen to him?” Lin Ting asked.
Fang Cheng was momentarily stunned.
Lin Ting sidestepped him and continued forward.
Fang Cheng followed.
Once outside the hospital, Lin Ting took out her phone to call a car. She glanced sideways at Fang Cheng.
Seeing her look at him, a bad feeling crept into his heart.
“What did your boss say before he left?” Lin Ting asked.
“He said you can’t leave the ward,” Fang Cheng replied.
“Wrong,” Lin Ting said. “He told you to listen to me.”
Fang Cheng frowned.
“Isn’t that right?” Lin Ting asked.
Reluctantly, Fang Cheng nodded.
Lin Ting said, “Your car’s at the hospital, right? Take me somewhere.”
“Boss said you can’t leave the hospital,” Fang Cheng said, his expression growing more serious and intimidating.
“If you drive me away, you’re listening to me, which means you’re listening to your boss, right?” Lin Ting reasoned. “Not letting me leave the hospital was your boss’s order to me. If I don’t listen, it has nothing to do with you. Right?”
Fang Cheng stared at her.
“If I ask you to drive me away but you refuse, you’re not listening to me and you’re disobeying your boss’s order,” Lin Ting continued.
Fang Cheng was silent for a moment before saying, “Do I look like a fool?”
Lin Ting said nothing.
Fang Cheng said, “If you don’t leave the hospital, my boss won’t scold me.”
Lin Ting scratched her cheek with her index finger. “So, do you choose to drive me there or let me take a taxi myself?”
Fang Cheng fell silent again.
This was no future sister-in-law; she was a living nightmare. Couldn’t hit her, couldn’t argue with her.
Lin Ting smiled amicably.
Five minutes later, she was seated in Fang Cheng’s car, giving him the address of her villa.
Nearly an hour later, they arrived near the villa.
The area was packed with cars; Fang Cheng couldn’t drive in and had to proceed on foot.
Following her inside, Fang Cheng soon realized the vehicles weren’t hers. “This is dangerous.”
“I know,” Lin Ting said. “Wait in the car.”
“No,” Fang Cheng insisted. “I have to ensure your safety. Should I call for backup?”
“No need,” Lin Ting said. “If you don’t want to stay in the car, you can come see the excitement.”
Fang Cheng looked at her gentle smile but felt a chill run down his spine.
Together, they reached the villa entrance.
The place was completely surrounded—a dark sea of black-clad men.
Lin Ting looked around. This show of force—they clearly didn’t plan to let her leave peacefully.
She tried to enter, but the black-clothed men blocked her.
Fang Cheng sprang into action, tossing two or three attackers aside with ease.
Instantly, all the men in the courtyard turned their attention to them.
The commotion caught the attention of those in the living room, who said, “Let them in.”
The men parted.
Lin Ting and Fang Cheng entered the living room.
Yuetai sat on the sofa, flanked by black-clad guards.
Lin Ting eyed him. “Mr. Yue, you’re quite impolite. One would think this is your home.”
Yuetai appeared to be just over fifty, dressed in a neat suit, hair carefully groomed, his hawk-like eyes sharp and piercing.
He radiated a dark, oppressive aura.
“If I wanted, I could make this my home immediately,” Yuetai said.
Lin Ting couldn’t help but laugh. “Make it your home immediately? What, do you have inheritance rights to my property?”
Fang Cheng, who had been texting Shang Moting with his head down, accidentally sent a half-written message upon hearing her words.
Yuetai frowned, his expression even more intimidating. “Brat, you’re talking nonsense.”
Lin Ting sat down opposite him. “Unlike you, at your age, you have no manners at all, breaking into someone else’s home.”
