Chapter 46 Indecency
Lin Ting had fallen asleep.
Shang Moting sat quietly right by her bed.
When the time was up, he removed the medicinal patch from her eyes.
A thin layer of small perspiration beads dotted her eyelids.
Shang Moting picked up a tissue and gently wiped them away.
This time, Lin Ting did not wake up; her eyelashes merely fluttered a little.
However, her sleep was still uneasy.
As if dreaming of something, her breathing grew slightly hurried, and her brow was furrowed.
Shang Moting quickly wiped the sweat from her eyelids, and just as he was about to sit back down, Lin Ting suddenly grabbed his hand.
The hand that had been receiving an IV infusion suddenly lifted high, threatening to cause the blood to flow back.
Shang Moting hurriedly took her hand and placed it back down by the bedside, holding it securely within his own.
She calmed down for a moment, but before long, her breathing quickened once more.
"Brother," Lin Ting's lips moved slightly.
Shang Moting watched her, unable to hear clearly what she was saying.
"Don't kill me, Brother, save me," Lin Ting frowned. "Save me."
Holding her IV-infused hand, Shang Moting asked, "What?"
Lin Ting murmured, "Brother."
This time, Shang Moting heard her clearly, and his eyes twitched ever so slightly.
"Brother," Lin Ting called out vaguely again.
Shang Moting fell silent for a few seconds before asking, "Which brother?"
Lin Ting's lips moved, emitting another indistinct sound.
Yet, Shang Moting caught it clearly.
*Good-guy brother.*
Hearing this address, Shang Moting stared in a daze for a moment before letting out a soft chuckle. "So you still remember, you little ungrateful wretch."
The infusion bag contained very little liquid, and it finished in just over an hour.
Lin Ting had broken out in a heavy sweat.
Once she perspired, her sleep instantly grew peaceful and steady.
Shang Moting wiped the remaining sweat from her face and neck.
Seeing that she was fine, he poured a glass of water, placed it on the bedside table, and walked over to the accompaniment bed on the other side.
Early in the morning, the edge of the sky just began to brighten.
The room was cast in a dim, grayish hue.
Lin Ting opened her eyes and looked around, taking a good while to realize she was in the hospital.
Her whole body felt sticky with sweat.
Her vision, however, had cleared up; it was almost completely recovered, and the dizziness was gone.
She lay still for a moment before getting out of bed and dashing toward the bathroom.
Shang Moting had been on the companion bed; the moment she sat up, his eyes snapped open.
Seeing her move with swift strides, he figured her vision must have improved, so he remained still.
Lin Ting used the bathroom and washed her face inside before coming back out.
Only then did she notice Shang Moting on the companion bed.
In her rush to the restroom earlier, she hadn't paid any attention to the person nearby.
He had stayed here with her the entire night.
Lin Ting stood by the bed for a moment before walking over.
Shang Moting was asleep, looking deeply unconscious with no sign of waking up anytime soon.
Lin Ting leaned in closer to observe him.
Initially, she had been wondering why he stayed here to accompany her all night, but upon seeing his face, her mind was left with only one thought: pure appreciation.
How breathtakingly handsome.
What kind of genetic lottery did one have to win to produce someone this gorgeous?
Exquisite, three-dimensional, a face entirely devoid of flaws.
The shape of his eyes was stunning, his nose was stunning, and his lips were stunning.
His lips... faintly pink, thin, and looking exceptionally soft.
Lin Ting stared fixedly at them, completely oblivious to the fact that she was leaning closer and closer, inch by inch.
Close enough to see the texture of his lips, close enough that a slight downward tilt of her head would brush against them.
And so, she did just that.
Driven by an irresistible impulse, she lowered her head and pressed a light kiss to his lips.
It felt just as she had imagined—cool to the touch.
Shang Moting, who had been faking sleep, opened his eyes.
He had sensed her drawing closer and closer, assuming she was up to some more mischievous tricks, but he never expected her to...
Lin Ting watched as his eyes flew open.
The two of them locked gazes for two seconds. As realization dawned, Lin Ting instinctively pulled back.
Yet, before she could retreat, Shang Moting grabbed her arm and yanked her right back.
With that pull and push, Lin Ting tumbled directly onto his chest.
Her eyes widened in shock.
At that exact moment, the ward door was pushed open.
"Boss," Wei Zhishu walked in, "Regarding the situation in Continent M..."
Wei Zhishu's voice cut off abruptly.
Both Lin Ting and Shang Moting turned to look at him.
Wei Zhishu froze for a few seconds, spun around to leave, and accidentally slammed his thigh hard against the hospital bed frame.
He limped toward the exit, stammering, "Apologies, wrong room, wrong room. I went to the wrong room!"
With Wei Zhishu's departure, the ward returned to its prior silence.
Lin Ting immediately scrambled off Shang Moting, stood straight, and took two steps back.
Shang Moting sat up as well, fixing his gaze on her.
Lin Ting bit her lower lip and looked back at him.
Shang Moting spoke, "What were you doing just now?"
Lin Ting bit her lip again. "I, I..."
Shang Moting watched as her face, her ears, and her neck grew progressively redder by the second.
This blush was far more vivid and obvious than when she had a fever.
"I was secretly taking liberties with you," Lin Ting raised her chin, acting defiant despite being in the wrong.
He hadn't expected this answer.
Shang Moting raised an eyebrow in momentary surprise.
"W-well, it wasn't really a secret anymore," Lin Ting stammered. "You found out, so it doesn't count as a secret."
"So you were openly taking liberties with me?" Shang Moting asked.
Lin Ting stayed silent.
Feeling her face burning to an unbearable degree, she raised both hands to cover it entirely.
Watching her display a shyness so intense yet putting up such a stubborn front, Shang Moting couldn't help but chuckle.
"What are you laughing at?" Lin Ting demanded fiercely. "Mocking me?"
"You take liberties with me, and yet you're glaring at me?" Shang Moting's eyes crinkled with amusement.
Lin Ting wanted to refute, but knowing she was in the wrong, she had no choice but to keep quiet.
After observing her for a moment, Shang Moting got out of bed, walked over to her side, and raised a hand to pat the top of her head.
Mistaking his gesture for a punishment, Lin Ting instinctively flinched.
Shang Moting looked at her.
Realizing her fault, Lin Ting straightened her posture and consciously lowered her head beneath his hand, letting him stroke her hair.
Shang Moting ruffled her hair and looked into her eyes. "Better?"
Lin Ting nodded. "I think I'm almost fully recovered."
"You're already well enough to take liberties with people, so I suppose you are," Shang Moting teased.
Lin Ting leaned backward, collapsing straight onto the companion bed.
She pulled the duvet over her head, wrapping herself up completely.
Then, she began to berate herself internally:
*Lin Ting, you are blinded by lust! You totally deserve this!!!!!!*
Chuckling softly, Shang Moting left the ward to give her some time to cool down.
...
Meanwhile, out in the hallway, Wei Zhishu—nursing his bruised thigh—excitedly shared the morning's firsthand experience in the group chat.
[*That Lin Ting is truly extraordinary! She's no ordinary person! She is definitely our future sister-in-law!*]
[*Early this morning, just a moment ago, the Boss was holding her in bed! Holding her! In the bed!!!!!!*]
[*Everyone, get your wedding cash gifts ready!*]
Barely a minute after he sent the message, the group chat exploded into activity.
[*What! The Boss is in bed?! They slept together?!*]
[*Is the Boss getting married? How much should we give? Where is the wedding?*]
[*Once the wedding is over, won't we be prepping for a baby's full-month celebration?*]
[*Do we need to prepare red envelopes for the baby's full-month too?*]
[*Does this mean we'll have to shell out red envelopes for the kid every single holiday from now on?*]
Just as the group chat members began debating what kind of education the hypothetical child should receive at each stage of life, Shang Moting stepped out of the ward.
Wei Zhishu immediately stepped forward to report on the affairs of Continent M.
At that moment, a group member with the screen name *Green Kite* chimed in.
[*Aren't I the fiancée designated by the Old Master? Who is he marrying?*]
[*I've returned to the country. You all can handle whatever else is left on your own.*]
