Chapter Sixteen: Fired? Nowhere to Turn
Page 1/3
Seeing Gu Qing growing increasingly impatient, Yu Zhi stopped beating around the bush and spoke plainly, “Can you kiss Professor Li?”
Li Ze and Gu Qing exchanged confused glances.
Both furrowed their brows, staring at Yu Zhi, waiting for her to explain.
“Don’t panic. Professor Li is so outstanding, a kiss won’t hurt you.”
Gu Qing violently shook off Yu Zhi’s hand. Was this a matter of gain or loss? Was Yu Zhi out of her mind, blatantly encouraging him to harass a male guest?
“Yu Zhi, you’re being naughty—”
Li Ze uttered his classic line, a phrase he often used when meeting Yu Zhi alone, showing no concern for the audience at all.
Netizens had already seen through Li Ze. At worst, he was a harmlessly obsessed type. Watching Yu Zhi glare at him every time was a major highlight.
“You and Zhou Su sit at the same table, go on—”
Yu Zhi took Gu Qing’s hand, smiling with a sly benevolence, like a wolf grandmother tricking Little Red Riding Hood. “One question: are you willing or not?”
Gu Qing took a step back, arms crossed, eyes fixed on Yu Zhi. “Yu Zhi, do you think I’m as naive as when we first met? I won’t be easily fooled by you! The most I’ll do is hug Professor Li—”
Li Ze: What’s the difference between hugging and kissing? Both are intimate contact.
A hug? Yu Zhi thought it over and decided it might work. She spread her hands, signaling Gu Qing to start, revealing a smile that hid her true intentions.
Li Ze parted his lips slightly, chuckled, then swiftly stepped in front of Yu Zhi, grabbed her shoulders firmly, and kissed her decisively.
“I declare, Professor Li is the bravest man on this show, bar none…”
“Hahaha, whose point is this for? I just care who gets the credit, hahaha!”
“Gu Qing was dumbfounded. She never expected Li Ze to be so bold. Though Yu Zhi’s widely criticized online, she does have a fair number of devoted fans.”
“Gu Qing: I’m incredibly clever. If I change the conditions, Yu Zhi will definitely agree!”
Zhou Su was quick to react, pulling Li Ze away just as the kiss happened. Yu Zhi pushed him hard, “Li Ze, are you crazy?”
Li Ze lightly licked his lips, a smile spreading across his otherwise impassive face.
“Doesn’t Zhi Zhi like it?”
Yu Zhi’s face turned cold as she resolutely pulled Gu Qing away. Ambiguous behavior didn’t necessarily require a partner; later, she could let Bai Fu Yuan and Gu Qing duel it out and end the whole thing in one fell swoop.

Gu Qing was still stunned, following Yu Zhi away without any guard. Zhou Su, however, didn’t follow, staying behind with Li Ze.
The cameraman was just fretting about how to narrate his footage when Zhou Su punched Li Ze in the face.
“Li Ze, are you shameless even compared to Shen Jiayu? Have you forgotten how you got beaten up before?”
Li Ze was actually pleased inside and didn’t care about Shen Jiayu’s actions. He sat down anywhere, saying, “What’s the use of being sober and restrained all day? Could Yu Zhi change her attitude toward me? I’m already on the show—what more could she want?”
Zhou Su knew reasoning with Li Ze was pointless. He scraped his shoe and kicked him twice before leaving.
Beneath the surface, Li Ze was just a lucid madman. From his perspective, after exposing himself like this, Yu Zhi should forgive him. Isn’t yielding a mutual act?
Why was Yu Zhi always so aloof?
She was supposed to be an otherworldly enchantress, living in the palm of his hand...
“Is Professor Li finally revealing his true self? No more pretending?”
“Are any of his students going to speak up?”
“Rumor has it the professor has already submitted his resignation and plans to quit after this batch of students. Could it be because of this variety show?”
“I’m curious—didn’t he initially dislike Yu Zhi? It’s only been two days, how come he looks so infatuated? And what’s with the beating?”
“Star News has an exclusive! Last night, Zhou Su already arrived at the scene and had a big clash with Li Ze, with Shen Jiayu involved too!”
“…”
In an empty office, quiet rustling sounds emerged.
“Crunch…”
“Brother Jiang, are we really supposed to be eating sunflower seeds here? Sister Yu is trending on social media again!”
Jiang Weicheng spat out some seed shells. “Who cares about trending? We’re about to get fired. Sister Yu should be grateful for any attention she gets.”
“The documents are already in my inbox. If only Yu Zhi could see the messages and sign, we could pack up and leave immediately.”
“Crunch… crunch…”
The assistant nodded while eating, clearly moved by Jiang Weicheng’s words.
“So we’re really getting fired? I should book a ticket to go on a two-month trip. Working with Sister Yu is exhausting.”

Jiang Weicheng said nothing, just kept sipping his water, then added, “Don’t book yet. After Sister Yu finishes the dating show, I’ll give you three months’ paid leave!”
The assistant’s eyes lit up. At this point, it meant no one was getting fired. Three months of paid leave—Sister Yu’s show would wrap up around September, and after the leave, it’d nearly be the New Year, combining with the holidays. Wonderful.
“Brother Jiang, can I take the leave together with the year-end holidays?”
“First, find someone to take all of Sister Yu’s stuff from the company back to her place. There are also some things to hand over to the company.”
The assistant suddenly found the snacks unappetizing, realizing why others disliked chatting with Brother Jiang.
“I don’t know what the company’s thinking. Sister Yu’s commercial value is way stronger than that so-called Xia Shuang, and from the show, maybe they can even do some CP marketing with her. It’s just a shame for now!”
Jiang Weicheng kept staring at Yu Zhi’s movements on the screen, smiling faintly. The assistant still didn’t quite understand. Yu Zhi’s success was not only due to her talent but also the significant backing of capital.
Moreover, Yu Zhi had offended several big directors in the industry!
Beauty is a temptation—beauty is a temptation!
The grassroots hype actually helped Yu Zhi a lot. If the rising star still tried to piggyback on Yu Zhi for marketing, it would ruin his future.
If he didn’t latch on, he had no future either~
In high spirits, Jiang Weicheng called Zhao Liheng.
“Old Zhao, you don’t want your precious darling to get hurt, do you?”
Zhao Liheng had just sent off the Big Buddha and barely caught his breath. “Jiang Weicheng, I actually thought you wanted to help me make a comeback. Turns out, you’re just delivering me a little troublemaker!”
Since Yu Zhi started appearing on the show, Jiang Weicheng and Zhao Liheng had talked on the phone many times, but never had Jiang described her this way. Zhao immediately understood what had happened.
“Explain…”
“Bah, you bastard! You’re young but so scheming. Yu Zhi has such strong backing—why would you put her on a dating show? My show is supposed to be warm and heartfelt, and now look at this mess!”
After hesitating a few seconds, Jiang Weicheng said frankly, “I really don’t know what you’re talking about. Yu Zhi is already a lost cause. Why would I speak in riddles to you?”
