Chapter 29
"Attention, the target is around one-eighty-five, slicked-back hair, wearing a black leather jacket and tight trousers, and has just entered the hospital."
Giving the retreating figure only a faint glance, he memorized the general features.
Turning back, he eyed the suspicious van and instructed the two men in the front seat: "Go bring the person inside the car over."
At the order, the two immediately moved to execute it.
Inside the van:
The bespectacled man was helping his companion clear the surveillance footage along the route and hacking into the elevator controls to ensure his smooth passage.
Suddenly, another device beside him flashed a harsh red light and emitted a warning tone.
The bespectacled man’s heart sank as he pulled up the feed from the van's exterior cameras.
On the screen, two sturdy men dressed in black were walking aggressively toward his direction.
Though his heart feigned calm, his hands and feet panicked frantically.
He slammed his laptop shut, clutched it to his chest, and hurriedly opened his communication channel.
"I've been spotted."
With that, he shoved the door open and bolted.
Seeing this, the two pursuing men in black sprinted after him immediately.
Those two had received professional training, and the bespectacled man was no match for their speed.
In less than a hundred meters, he was swiftly cornered and captured.
The bespectacled man's first reaction was to protect the laptop in his hands.
Before he could struggle for even half a second, it was forcefully snatched away.
"You—" Furious, the bespectacled man opened his mouth to roar, but a hand violently clamped over it.
Against his waist, a sharp object radiated an intense, bone-chilling cold that made one's hair stand on end.
By his ear came the low, menacing voice of the man in black.
"If you don't want any trouble, come with us quietly."
The bespectacled man closed his eyes, assuming a martyr-like expression.
One of the men in black threw an arm around his shoulder, leading him away as if they were old friends.
Jin Yuchuan took in every bit of this scene.
Judging by the bespectacled man's motives, there should only be two of them.
It all seemed... far too simple.
Just as doubt arose, the man beside him suddenly spoke up: "That man from earlier is back!"
The moment his voice fell, a commotion erupted over there.
The man appeared abruptly, his movements so blindingly fast that they were hard to track, and the man in black who had been restraining the bespectacled man was knocked flat to the ground.
With his speech no longer restricted, the bespectacled man's first words were: "Don't break my computer!"
The man who was currently grabbing the other operative by the collar: "..."
His raised fist paused, then lowered to snatch back the laptop instead.
The hand gripping him applied force, only to be flung away completely.
The bespectacled man cradled the laptop carefully to his chest, still shaken with lingering fear, and tremblingly patted the man's remarkably reassuring arm.
"Someone is watching us. We'd better leave first."
The man let out a disgruntled, cold snort and reluctantly dropped the matter.
Jin Yuchuan did not issue any further commands until he watched that car drive away.
The man beside him could no longer hold back, his gaze anxious.
Qing Ya asked in confusion, "Lord Jin, this is a prime opportunity to investigate Bai Lan's identity. Are you just going to let them walk away like this?"
Bai Lan's identity security clearance was exceptionally high; even he found it difficult to track his movements.
For a healer, such elusiveness seemed somewhat absurd.
Now that all information routes had been cut off by them, the only ones who could accurately pinpoint this location were acquaintances who had seen the car accident video online.
When things had been quiet for a few days following the incident, being discharged from the hospital presented the absolute best opportunity.
It allowed them to use a public venue to obscure line-of-sight without having to worry about Bai Lan's physical condition.
Jin Yuchuan's eyes narrowed slightly as he gazed into the distance where the car had vanished.
His dark eyes were profound and deep, resembling an endless, boundless night where no emotions could be glimpsed.
Two seconds later, he looked away. "There's no need."
Raising a hand, his pale, cold fingertips pressed against his earpiece. "Cancel the alert."
Before getting out of the car, he instructed Qing Ya, "Send those two passed-out men into the hospital."
Qing Ya glanced at the men in black unconscious by the roadside, then looked up at the hospital gates, silently muttering to himself: This has got to be a record for the fastest patient admission time ever.
...
Having followed Jin Yuchuan for so many years, Nan Sheng had experienced this sort of thing often enough to be quite used to it.
Yet this time, things wrapped up so quickly that it left him in a bit of a daze.
Having just finished the discharge paperwork, he happened to run into Jin Yuchuan on his way upstairs.
"Lord Jin."
Jin Yuchuan's expression remained impassive, his eyes gazing quietly ahead as if deep in thought.
When they entered the ward, Ye Chunxi was looking down at her phone, sucking on a lollipop of unknown origin.
Sitting cross-legged on the bed, her slender, straight calves dangled and swayed slightly. Her delicate, bare feet were small and refined, glowing with the white of cold porcelain, her big toes tipped with a healthy pink flush.
Just when Ling Qiao had thought he was obsessed, he had inadvertently confiscated his young niece's collection of classic CEO romance novels.
Influenced and nurtured by those very novels, he felt as though his meridians had suddenly opened up and enlightenment had struck him instantly.
The ascetic male lead possessed untold wealth, an ironclad background, controlled the economic lifeline of a certain city, and wielded power in both the underworld and legitimate society.
The female lead came from a complicated family background, possessed formidable real skills, retained her pride despite her poverty, and ultimately won the male lead's admiration.
Later, the two parted ways, and the male lead pursued the female lead desperately, letting neither morality nor law stop his steps.
It matched Jin Yuchuan's situation to the letter.
Ling Qiao rubbed his hands together, his expression thoroughly gossipy: "Tell me the truth, did you take a fancy to her abilities and trick the poor little girl into coming over? Only for her to be broken-hearted by your ruthlessness later on, prompting her to leave for good? Then you belatedly realized you had fallen in love with her, and blurted out the line, *'Damn it, I actually fell in love with that woman'*?"
Hearing all of this, Jin Yuchuan's mind went completely blank.
What on earth was all of this nonsense?
He took a deep breath, his voice muffled and heavy: "You must be quite idle to be reading this sort of garbage."
Lifting his gaze, sharp, dark eyes swept across him.
A single look, and an invisible pressure imbued with a brutal edge swept through the entire room, compressing breath as if it had physical substance, making one's heart skip a beat.
Ling Qiao swallowed hard, thoroughly intimidated by his aura, and immediately offered a flattering smile: "I was just talking nonsense, don't take it seriously, seriously don't take it to heart!"
The atmosphere turned increasingly bizarre. Shifting his gaze evasively, he immediately scrambled to make amends.
"Since she's experiencing amnesia anyway, should I find a way to contact her master?"
Jin Yuchuan made no response, merely gazing quietly at Ye Chunxi.
She suddenly smiled, reached forward, and linked her arm through his.
"I have a brother, and I'm already very satisfied."
It was a predictable reaction.
Someone who had been orphaned since childhood—how could they ever dare to expect or demand much?
Jin Yuchuan's arm pressed against Ye Chunxi's chest.
Having misjudged the distance, her tight embrace made him feel somewhat uncomfortable.
Neither of them showed any drastic emotional fluctuations, which finally allowed Ling Qiao to heave a sigh of relief. He offered a placating smile: "You siblings really have a great bond."
Without a sound, Jin Yuchuan quietly pulled his arm back, turned his head, and asked, "How do you find the new environment?"
The two of them were standing close enough that he could faintly sense Ye Chunxi's breathing.
Her limpid, luminous deer-like eyes stared at him quietly, causing Jin Yuchuan's heart to skip a beat.
"It's great, I like it very much," she answered promptly.
