Chapter 3: The True Heiress of the Mu Family?! Negotiating a Writing Deal with the Eldest Mu Son
Orphanage.
Inside the slightly cramped office, Jin Yuchuan sat upright with an air of solemnity, his hands neatly placed before him, exuding a cold nobility and commanding presence.
The room was modest and somewhat austere, and his presence seemed to create a dissonant contrast, as if the scene was split into two layers.
The director brought over some tea but was intimidated by the man’s aura, fumbling awkwardly while unable to resist scrutinizing him.
The visitor was impeccably dressed, accompanied by attendants, and even without worldly experience, the director recognized the high value of the car outside.
With a flattering smile, the director said, “May I ask, sir, are you here to adopt a child? Just tell me your requirements directly, and I’ll help find a suitable one in the orphanage.”
His eyes gleamed with eagerness, filled with anticipation of finalizing this “transaction.”
It was known that previously a child had been adopted by a prestigious family in Jin City, a favored foster daughter who had, out of gratitude, supported the orphanage financially for over a decade, improving its conditions beyond those of typical orphanages.
A few years ago, the family also funded a public welfare education program, providing stationery supplies and regular scholarships to several outstanding high school students.
This precedent stirred the director’s ambition even further.
Jin Yuchuan remained indifferent and silent. Beside him, Nan Sheng had already prepared the documents and handed them over.
“We are here to adopt a girl named Ye Chunxi.”
Upon hearing the name, the director was momentarily stunned. “Who did you say?”
Nan Sheng had anticipated this reaction.
Naturally, adopters usually preferred younger children to foster emotional bonds.
He candidly explained, “To be frank, Ye Chunxi was in a car accident yesterday and is currently in the hospital. Our young master happened to encounter her, and upon learning of her orphan status, he felt pity for her situation and wishes to adopt her.”
“What?!” The director suddenly stood up, shouting in shock.
His face drained of color, eyes wide with terror. “Ye Chunxi was in an accident?”
She was the true daughter of the Mu family!
If anything happened and the Mu family blamed him, the hard-won sponsorships he had secured would be jeopardized.
The director’s anxiety was palpable, his body trembling.
Nan Sheng reassured him, “Rest assured, the girl has finished surgery and has regained consciousness. She is still in the hospital, and our young master will fully cover the medical expenses.”
Hearing this, the director felt a slight relief.
His limbs trembled as he finally retrieved his phone from his pocket, fingers shaking as he pressed on the screen.
Ye Chunxi had left in a Mu family car and was unrelated to him, so the Mu family likely wouldn’t blame him.
Still, he felt a mix of hope and fear.
The sponsorship was substantial—any loss, however small, would be fatal.
---
Watching his movements, Jin Yuchuan’s brows furrowed slightly, his deep black eyes sharp and chilling, sending a shiver down the spine.
Nan Sheng tactfully intervened, speaking politely, “She is out of danger now, nothing serious. It would be best to finalize the adoption soon.”
The director was desperate, but Nan Sheng blocked him, leaving him no choice but to put the matter aside temporarily.
His voice was high-pitched, tinged with despair and a faint sob.
“Gentlemen, it’s not that I’m unwilling, but Ye Chunxi is the daughter of the Mu family from Yanjing. The Mu family’s young master recently acknowledged her as kin. It’s simply impossible to adopt her.”
This statement stunned both men into silence.
Jin Yuchuan’s pupils contracted in surprise.
Indeed, the Mu family had a long-lost daughter.
He narrowed his eyes, darkening in intensity.
When she disappeared years ago, the Mu family had mobilized all resources to find her, all in vain. Many speculated she had met with misfortune.
Lady Mu was so devastated she suffered from mental illness, becoming melancholic and depressed.
Now, after so many years, how could she suddenly be found—and in Jin City no less?
It was baffling.
Even more perplexing was the Mu family’s attitude.
Their eldest son had come to Jin City recently but left after only a short stay.
Since they had acknowledged their kinship, why didn’t they bring her back to Yanjing? Why leave her here alone?
Too many questions.
With adoption off the table, Jin Yuchuan saw no reason to stay.
He rose decisively and strode away, Nan Sheng following closely.
The director’s alarm bells rang loudly; he hurried after them.
“There are many outstanding children here. Perhaps you’d like to see more…”
He was stopped by bodyguards just outside the door.
Watching Jin Yuchuan’s receding figure, the director’s heart brimmed with regret.
---
Inside the car.
Jin Yuchuan immediately dialed a number. His voice was cold and indifferent, but the words were sharp.
“Your sister was in a car accident.”
There was a brief silence, then impatience and confusion on the other end.
“How do you know?”
Jin Yuchuan’s gaze darkened as he concealed his true thoughts.
“You suddenly came to Jin City a few days ago, and your destination was the orphanage. I got curious and looked into it.”
The other party sneered coldly. “You seem to know my movements well.”
His low voice was restrained, as if holding back something.
His subordinates had already reported the accident to Mu Yiheng earlier.
But he had been busy and had only recently learned that Ye Chunxi was fine, which eased his mind somewhat.
His relatively calm reaction indicated prior knowledge.
Jin Yuchuan’s eyes grew colder, his dark, piercing gaze revealing a determined resolve.
“You know the situation now. Let’s discuss a deal.”
“A deal?” Mu Yiheng’s tone suddenly turned serious. “What deal?”
Jin Yuchuan replied succinctly, “Your sister has amnesia and currently mistakes me for her brother. If we clarify the truth abruptly, it could plunge her into further confusion, harming her recovery.”
He paused before revealing his intention.
“I can temporarily play the role of her brother and care for her, helping her regain her memory—provided you agree to let her stay with me.”
Mu Yiheng was stunned on the other end.
Frowning deeply, he doubted Jin Yuchuan’s words and was shocked and suspicious of the condition he proposed.
“What do you want by keeping my sister with you?”
Jin Yuchuan said, “That’s none of your concern. I’ll give you time to think it over, but I advise you to decide quickly. After all, your sister is still in the hospital.”
With that, he decisively ended the call.
Listening to the dial tone, Mu Yiheng’s frustration grew, and he slammed the table in anger.
He did not care whether Ye Chunxi had amnesia.
The girl was headstrong and unruly; amnesia might tame her, allowing gradual contact with the family and deeper bonds.
But why would she mistake Jin Yuchuan for her brother?
Considering Jin Yuchuan’s character and situation, Mu Yiheng felt a bad omen and immediately ordered someone to verify the truth.
When the results matched Jin Yuchuan’s account perfectly, he felt as if the sky was falling.
Torn by conflicting emotions but powerless, he finally made a call.
“Have you made up your mind?” Jin Yuchuan’s voice held a faint smile, fully expecting his opponent’s decision.
