Chapter 11: Ancient Martial Artist! A Lost Orphan?
The oppressive atmosphere suddenly eased, and Ling Qiao glanced over cautiously.
Jin Yuchuan’s expression remained gloomy, his lips curling into a trace of irony. "You’ve got quite the capabilities."
Bai Lan’s master was a titan in the world of Traditional Chinese Medicine and a leading figure in ancient medical practices. Although he was technically part of the Medical Alliance, it was merely an honorary title. Aside from a few high-level events, he usually lived in seclusion in the mountains, rarely appearing in public. Even after all these years, Ling Qiao had only met the man twice.
He certainly didn’t have the connections to reach him. However, his apprentice had been out for so many days without a word, and Ling Qiao didn't believe her master wouldn't be anxious.
"Since Bai Lan is so important to you, I’ll try to help you reach out. There’s no harm in trying, anyway."
Jin Yuchuan withdrew his gaze, saying nothing, which served as his silent consent. He pulled up all the organized footage, leaned back, and shifted his office chair slightly.
"Don't you think this man’s movements and behavior are a bit strange?"
On the screen, the robust man from the hospital was shown sprinting and engaging in swift, precise combat moves in a looped sequence. Ling Qiao leaned in, his cynical expression instantly turning serious and focused as he squinted at the screen.
It wasn't until the footage played for the third time that he murmured in near disbelief, "Qinggong?"
He moved even closer, observing carefully, and discovered that the man’s fists never actually made contact; his opponents would collapse when he was still half an inch away.
"This guy actually knows ancient martial arts!"
Ling Qiao’s pupils trembled. He pointed at the screen in astonishment and demanded of Jin Yuchuan, "Where did you find him?"
Jin Yuchuan lay back in his office chair, his posture casual yet elegant, barely concealing his aristocratic air. "He’s with Bai Lan."
"Bai Lan?" Ling Qiao was surprised. He stood still, lost in thought. Five seconds later, he raised a question: "That can't be right. Recently, no other disciples have left the estate besides me."
The head of the Ling family had a close friendship with Bai Lan’s master, and the latter had always entrusted the Ling family with protection duties, never seeking help from anyone else.
Jin Yuchuan’s expression grew grave. "Then where did this martial artist come from?"
*Knock, knock, knock.*
A sudden knock at the door interrupted their train of thought. The door was pushed open, and Ye Chunxi cautiously poked her head in. "Brother, are you busy?"
*Brother?!*
This form of address made Ling Qiao’s body jolt. His eyes widened in shock, and he stared in disbelief at the young girl leaning against the doorframe with a reserved demeanor.
He turned his head stiffly, fearfully checking Jin Yuchuan’s reaction. To his surprise, Jin Yuchuan remained as calm as ever, closing the surveillance footage unhurriedly before looking up at Ye Chunxi. "Is something the matter?"
Upon hearing those three words, Ling Qiao felt the usually icy tone of his voice warm up slightly, and he was completely bewildered. Even the young ladies of the Jin family wouldn't dare address Jin Yuchuan so intimately. Who was this girl? His biological sister? But where would he have gotten a sister from?!
Ye Chunxi walked over, cast a cold glance at Ling Qiao, and turned back to Jin Yuchuan. "On the evening of the 15th, Yin Xianyao has a performance in Jincheng. I checked, and it seems the organizer is a subsidiary of your company."
Jin Yuchuan nodded. "That is correct." He remembered that the 15th was the night of a co-creation event for one of his company's games, which had invited many celebrities and streamers, including Yin Xianyao.
"Do you want to go?" he asked.
Ye Chunxi replied, "I want to see her."
Recalling the report from Nan Sheng, Jin Yuchuan readily agreed. "You can."
Ye Chunxi beamed. "Thank you, Brother~"
Her voice was cool, yet this "Brother" was drawn out and sweet, with a hint of clinginess. Jin Yuchuan froze, his fingers curling tightly. Before he could recover from the sweet tone, he saw Ye Chunxi leaning on the desk, her clear, doe-like eyes filled with genuine anticipation.
"Will you come with me?"
Her gaze was so fervent that Jin Yuchuan felt a moment of distraction, and he found himself nodding as if by instinct. By the time he realized what he had done, Ye Chunxi had already taken out her phone, opened the calendar, and earnestly scheduled the date for the 15th: [Watch the performance with Brother].
Any words of refusal were instantly blocked, and Jin Yuchuan ended up agreeing to it in this nonsensical way. It wasn't as if there was anything major that day, and he was quite curious about the relationship between Bai Lan—known as the contemporary medical immortal—and an entertainment industry idol. If this could help her recover some memories, that would be even better. At a critical time like this, he naturally needed to be by her side. That was what Jin Yuchuan told himself.
Ling Qiao was stunned. "Master Jin, you actually have a sister?! And she’s so obedient!" Just a few words were enough to make a workaholic like Jin Yuchuan do something he would normally call meaningless. This girl was truly capable!
Jin Yuchuan responded naturally, "I just found her a couple of days ago."
"Found her?" Ling Qiao was puzzled. "Does your family have a lost orphan? How come I didn't know?" He had some understanding of Jin Yuchuan’s family situation.
"Orphan?" Ye Chunxi caught the keyword sharply.
"Didn't your brother tell you?" Ling Qiao realized he had said the wrong thing. He cursed internally and hurriedly tried to explain to Jin Yuchuan, "Master Jin, I didn't mean it. I didn't know your sister wasn't aware..."
Jin Yuchuan didn't react, merely looking calmly at Ye Chunxi. She suddenly smiled and reached out to tuck her arm into his.
"Having a brother is enough to make me content."
It was an expected reaction. How could someone who had grown up without parents expect or demand much more?
Jin Yuchuan felt her body pressed against his arm. She was holding on tightly, without much sense of boundaries, which made him feel slightly uncomfortable. Since neither of them showed any major emotional fluctuations, Ling Qiao breathed a sigh of relief and forced a smile. "You two siblings have such a great bond."
Jin Yuchuan quietly pulled his arm away, turned his head, and asked, "How do you find the new environment?"
The two were so close that he could almost feel Ye Chunxi’s breath. Her clear, lively doe eyes watched him quietly, and Jin Yuchuan’s heart skipped a beat.
"It’s very good. I like it," she answered quickly.
It was said that Master Qiao, Bai Lan’s mentor, lived in seclusion in a valley rich in plant resources, carrying on a legacy of hundreds of years and providing humanity with many excellent traditional remedies. No one knew the exact location. However, Jin Yuchuan believed that compared to the bustling city, Ye Chunxi would feel more at home in the quiet mountains.
But her tone was flat, devoid of any extra emotion, as if she were dealing with relatives asking prying questions during the holidays. Jin Yuchuan’s brow furrowed slightly before relaxing again.
"I’m usually at the company and rarely come home," he instructed. "If you need anything, just talk to Butler Kong."
Ye Chunxi pursed her lips, her tone revealing a trace of loneliness. "Oh, okay."
Ling Qiao couldn't help but chime in, "Master Jin, that’s not right. Since you’ve just reunited with your sister, you should spend more time together. I understand you haven't been back to Jincheng in years, but you should at least show your own sister a bit more concern."
