Chapter 11: The Ancient Warrior! A Lost Orphan Cast Adrift?
The oppressive atmosphere suddenly eased, and Ling Qiao cautiously glanced over.
Jin Yuchuan’s face remained clouded, but the slight curve at the corner of his mouth carried a hint of sarcasm.
“You’re quite capable.”
Bai Lan’s master was a towering figure in traditional Chinese medicine, a pioneer in ancient medical arts.
Though affiliated with the Medical Alliance, he held a largely ceremonial position.
Apart from attending a few high-level events, he lived secluded in the mountains, rarely seen by others.
In all these years, Ling Qiao had only met this enigmatic man twice.
He himself certainly didn’t possess such abilities.
Yet, given that Bai Lan’s apprentice had been out for so many days without a word, Ling Qiao found it impossible to believe that her master wasn’t worried.
“Since Bai Lan means so much to you, I’ll help you get in touch with him. After all, it can’t hurt.”
Jin Yuchuan withdrew his gaze, saying nothing, tacitly agreeing.
He brought up the arranged footage on the screen, leaned back, and reclined his office chair a bit.
“Don’t you think this man’s movements are somewhat strange?”
On the screen, the muscular man at the hospital sprinted with unusual agility, his swift and precise combat techniques cycling repeatedly.
Ling Qiao leaned in, his usually cynical expression turning serious and focused, eyes narrowing as he watched intently.
Only after the third replay did he whisper in disbelief, “Qinggong?”
He leaned in further, scrutinizing the footage, suddenly realizing the man’s punches never actually made contact; at just half an inch away, the opponent would fall.
“This man actually knows ancient martial arts!”
Ling Qiao’s pupils dilated in shock as he pointed at the screen, questioning Jin Yuchuan, “Where did you find him?”
Jin Yuchuan reclined gracefully in his chair, his posture casual yet exuding noble air.
“By Bai Lan’s side.”
“Bai Lan?” Ling Qiao was surprised.
He stood still, pondering, then after five seconds asked, “That can’t be right. Recently, no disciples other than me have gone out from the family.”
The head of the Ling family was close friends with Bai Lan’s master, who had always entrusted them with his protection, never seeking help elsewhere.
Jin Yuchuan’s expression darkened. “Then where on earth did this ancient martial artist come from?”
“Knock knock knock—”
A sudden knock interrupted their thoughts.
The door opened gently, and Ye Chunxi cautiously peeked her head in. “Brother, are you free?”
“Brother?!”
The word made Ling Qiao’s body jerk sharply; his eyes widened in shock as he stared at the shy young girl leaning against the doorframe.
He stiffly turned his head, nervously glancing at Jin Yuchuan’s face.
But Jin Yuchuan calmly closed the surveillance footage and looked up at Ye Chunxi, “What is it?”
Those three words, spoken in his usually cold tone but softened slightly, left Ling Qiao dumbfounded.
Even the Jin family’s own young ladies wouldn’t dare address Jin Yuchuan so familiarly. Who was this girl?
His own sister?
But where could he possibly have a sister?!
Ye Chunxi walked over, her indifferent eyes flickering briefly toward Ling Qiao before turning back. “On the night of the 15th, Yin Xinyao has a performance in Jin City. I checked—it seems the organizer is one of your company’s subsidiaries.”
Jin Yuchuan nodded. “That’s correct.”
He remembered that on the 15th, the company was hosting a co-creation night for one of its games, inviting numerous celebrity streamers, including Yin Xinyao.
“You want to go?” he asked.
Ye Chunxi responded, “I want to see her.”
Recalling the report from Nan Sheng, Jin Yuchuan readily agreed. “Alright.”
Ye Chunxi brightened. “Thank you, brother~”
Her voice was cool and clear, yet the word “brother” was drawn out sweetly, with a lingering tenderness.
Jin Yuchuan was momentarily stunned, his fingers curling tightly.
Before he could recover from the sweetness of her tone, Ye Chunxi leaned on the desk, her bright doe-like eyes filled with genuine hope.
“Will you go with me?”
Her earnest gaze unsettled Jin Yuchuan, and, almost instinctively, he nodded.
By the time he realized what he had done, Ye Chunxi had already taken out her phone, opened the calendar, and carefully scheduled an event on the 15th:
“Watch the performance with brother.”
His chance to refuse vanished instantly, and Jin Yuchuan found himself agreeing without rhyme or reason.
After all, he had nothing pressing that day, and he was curious about the connection between Bai Lan, the so-called medical sage of the era, and an idol from the entertainment world.
If it could help her regain some memories, all the better.
At such a crucial moment, he naturally wanted to be by her side.
Jin Yuchuan thought to himself.
Ling Qiao was stunned. “Master Jin, you actually have a sister?! And she’s so obedient!”
Just a few words could make the workaholic Jin Yuchuan do things he usually deemed meaningless. This girl was truly remarkable!
Jin Yuchuan answered naturally, “She was found just a few days ago.”
“Found?” Ling Qiao was puzzled. “Does your family have an orphan living away? How come I never knew?”
Ling Qiao knew a bit about Jin Yuchuan’s family background.
Their parents had died fifteen years ago, and no one had ever mentioned any other children.
“Orphan?” Ye Chunxi keenly caught the emphasis.
“Your brother didn’t tell you?”
Ling Qiao realized too late that he had misspoken and quickly tried to explain to Jin Yuchuan.
“Master Jin, I didn’t mean it—I didn’t know your sister didn’t know…”
Jin Yuchuan said nothing, only gazing calmly at Ye Chunxi.
Suddenly, she smiled and reached out, linking her arm through his.
“I’m already very satisfied to have a brother.”
The response was exactly what one would expect.
Having grown up without parents, how could she demand or expect much?
Jin Yuchuan’s arm pressed against Ye Chunxi’s chest.
He failed to maintain proper distance, holding her a little too tightly, making him somewhat uncomfortable.
Neither showed much emotional fluctuation, which made Ling Qiao breathe easier. He forced a smile and said, “You two really have a good sibling bond.”
Jin Yuchuan quietly withdrew his arm and turned his head. “How do you find the new environment?”
The two were so close it seemed he could faintly feel Ye Chunxi’s breath.
Her bright, lively doe eyes looked steadily at him, causing his heart to skip a beat.
“Very good. I like it a lot,” she answered promptly.
It was said that Master Qiao, Bai Lan’s teacher, lived reclusively in a valley rich with botanical resources, passing down centuries-old knowledge and providing many effective traditional remedies.
No one knew the exact location.
But compared to the noisy city, Jin Yuchuan believed Ye Chunxi would feel more at home in the tranquil mountains.
Yet her tone was flat, devoid of any extra emotion, as if responding perfunctorily to relatives’ questions at a holiday gathering.
Jin Yuchuan’s brow tightened briefly, then relaxed.
He instructed, “I’m usually at the company and rarely come back. If anything comes up, just tell Butler Kong.”
Ye Chunxi pursed her lips, her voice tinged with loneliness. “Oh, okay.”
Hearing this, Ling Qiao could not help but interject, “Master Jin, that’s not right. You just reunited with your sister; you should spend more time together. You haven’t returned to Jin City in so many years—I understand that—but at least you should care more about your own sister.”
