Su Tingwan was driven to the brink of collapse by Fu Xicheng’s provocation, shouting out in anguish. For the sake of Xixi, she was willing to disregard everything else and give her all. Yet he, the man who was supposed to be Xixi’s father, had shattered her hopes with a single careless remark—all in the name of paving the way for the woman he loved to marry into the Fu family. If because of this, her Xixi could not be born into a good life...
“Su Tingwan!” Fu Xicheng’s face was as dark as forged iron as he shouted furiously, “You really will say anything just to marry into the Fu family!” “Xixi is your daughter, yet you curse her over and over again. Are you even worthy of being a mother?”
“I’m not worthy of being a mother? Fu Xicheng, the one unworthy is you! You don’t deserve to be Xixi’s father at all! Xixi is dead! My Xixi... she’s really dead!” Su Tingwan cried out in pain, tears streaming down her face in heavy droplets. Even though more than a month had passed, thinking of her tragic daughter still tore her heart apart.
Fu Xicheng’s fury boiled over. “Su Tingwan, enough! If you dare—” But his harsh words caught in his throat. He looked at Su Tingwan before him, her face soaked with tears, and the sorrow and despair in her eyes were so genuine that his heart sank inexplicably. In that moment, a sudden unease gripped him. Almost instinctively, he denied it, “Impossible!” Xixi could not be dead. She was perfectly healthy.
Su Tingwan smiled bitterly as she looked at Fu Xicheng, who still refused to believe. She wiped the tears from her face and suddenly grabbed his arm. “Still don’t believe me? I’ll take you to see for yourself!” Ignoring her tear-streaked face, she hastened forward, pulling Fu Xicheng along. Though he did not believe her—this woman never spoke a true word—his legs moved uncontrollably, following her out.
Just as they stepped outside, they collided with Cheng Muyan, who was walking toward them.

Su Tingwan didn’t even glance at her, tugging Fu Xicheng onward. Cheng Muyan sensed the tension and stepped forward with concern. “Xicheng, Tingwan, what’s going on?”
“Get out of the way!” Su Tingwan had no patience for tea ceremony performances now. She pushed Cheng Muyan aside and continued pulling Fu Xicheng forward. Cheng Muyan staggered and fell, emitting a low, painful groan—soft, but loud enough for Fu Xicheng to hear. He should have stayed. Yet unexpectedly, he did not stop or even look back. In the blink of an eye, the two disappeared from her sight. Cheng Muyan’s expression instantly changed.
Maple Grove.
This was Fu Xicheng’s third visit here, but the heaviest in footsteps. He followed behind Su Tingwan as they entered. Her eyes were swollen and red, but her emotions had settled somewhat. Stopping at the door of the side bedroom, she turned to Fu Xicheng and twisted the doorknob.
“Go in. Xixi’s ashes and death certificate are inside.”
Just as Su Tingwan was about to push the door open, Fu Xicheng’s phone rang. The familiar ringtone made them both freeze. It was Cheng Muyan. Furrowing his brows slightly, Fu Xicheng took the phone out and answered it in front of Su Tingwan. Cheng Muyan spoke first, her voice trembling with excitement. “Xicheng, I saw Xixi.”
Su Tingwan stood close by and heard that too.
“Saw Xixi?” The words echoed in Fu Xicheng’s mind.

Su Tingwan’s hand on the doorknob suddenly relaxed. She instinctively turned and rushed out—but after only a step, she stopped abruptly. The faint light that had just kindled in her eyes was extinguished. How could the person Cheng Muyan saw possibly be her Xixi? Her Xixi was already dead.
The panic and unease in Fu Xicheng’s eyes swiftly faded after hearing Cheng Muyan’s call. Watching Su Tingwan’s involuntary reaction to the news, his gaze turned icy cold. “Keep a close eye on Xixi. I’m coming right away.” Hanging up, he turned and strode out.
Passing Su Tingwan, he stopped and spoke in a cold voice, “Su Tingwan, Xixi’s being reborn as your daughter is the greatest misfortune of her life.” Without another glance, he left in long, decisive strides.
Su Tingwan stood rooted to the spot, biting her lips tightly as her body trembled uncontrollably. Fu Xicheng’s last words were like a blade, stabbing deeply into her heart. He was right—Xixi’s reincarnation inside her womb was Xixi’s greatest misfortune. She was unloved, and her Xixi suffered the same fate, unloved alongside her.
Fu Xicheng sped through the streets, rushing to the park Cheng Muyan had mentioned. The park was near the venue of the jewelry competition. Before the car even came to a halt, Fu Xicheng flung open the door and hurried out. Following Cheng Muyan’s directions, he quickly found her.
He strode over. “Where is Xixi?”
Hearing Fu Xicheng’s voice, Cheng Muyan turned around immediately. She looked unlike her usual self. Normally, she always showed her best side to Fu Xicheng. Now, her hair was disheveled, her face flushed from running hard, and sweat beaded in fine drops at her temples, making her appear quite disheveled.
She looked at Fu Xicheng, panting slightly, and said apologetically, “Xicheng, I’m sorry... I couldn’t catch up...”
