Volume 1, Chapter 56: Immediately Bring Shen Zhiyi Home
Bo Congnan walked in quickly, his eyes filled with the look as if Bo Bingqian had committed some outrageous crime.
Because he had been crying, Elder Bo’s eyes were rimmed with red, and the back of his hand had an injury.
Walking in on this scene, it was not impossible for Bo Congnan to misunderstand Bo Bingqian.
Yet he was simply too foolish; he was the only one who could possibly jump to such a conclusion about someone else.
Bo Bingqian slowly put down the ointment in his hand, swept a cold glance at him, and said, "Applying medicine."
Bo Congnan looked at the medicine box by Bo Bingqian's hand; it was indeed for applying medicine.
However, Grandfather had been completely fine last time, and the back of his hand had not been injured at all.
He had heard that Bo Bingqian had been guarding by Grandfather's side these past few days, purely out of fear that he would take advantage of Grandfather's illness and muddled state of mind to trick him into transferring the shares in his hands.
By that time, everything would be too late.
With this thought, Bo Congnan's tone changed, "Second Brother, Grandfather's hand wasn't injured the last time. How is it that as soon as you arrive, the back of his hand ends up with scalds?"
Given Bo Congnan's temperament, it was no wonder Grandfather had never felt reassured enough to hand the position of the Bo family's heir over to him.
His mind was entirely filled with power; he was simply blinded by it.
Would Bo Bingqian be foolish enough to harm Grandfather in broad daylight and under the watchful eyes of others?
He truly had no idea what went on inside that pig's brain of his!
The corners of Bo Bingqian's lips twitched slightly, and he couldn't even be bothered to lift his eyelids. "Do you think I hurt Grandfather?"
Bo Congnan didn't speak, but that was clearly what he meant.
The expression on his face grew even more intriguing.
The room was very quiet. Deep down, Bo Congnan still felt a shred of dread toward Bo Bingqian.
Even though he wanted to pin the blame on Bo Bingqian, he lacked the courage to say it directly out loud.
In the quiet room, Bo Bingqian let out a cold laugh. He slowly stood up and took a step toward Bo Congnan. "Even if I really did deliberately hurt Grandfather, what can you possibly do to me?"
The aura surrounding Bo Bingqian was already formidable to begin with.
The moment he stood up, he was enveloped in an oppressive aura that forced Bo Congnan to take several steps back in succession, almost causing him to fall to the ground.
"You... what are you doing?"
Bo Congnan steadied his footing and retreated slowly, his face etched with terror.
He had no wish to get this close to Bo Bingqian; he did not want to experience anything like what had happened back then ever again.
"Didn't you say that I deliberately harmed Grandfather? Why don't you call the police and have me arrested?"
Bo Bingqian spoke with utter nonchalance, his body leaning forward slightly.
Bo Congnan shrank back violently. "You were the one who said that, I didn't say anything of the sort! Grandfather has been so good to you, how could you do something like this... something so unfilial!"
With that, Bo Congnan turned around, preparing to leave.
Seeing him like this, I immediately knew what he was about to do.
It had been like this ever since they were children; whenever Bo Congnan was bullied by Bo Bingqian, his first instinct was always to run off and complain to Bo Qindao.
Bo Bingqian's lips parted slightly. "Hmph..."
The moment Bo Bingqian raised his hand, Bo Congnan was so frightened that he pressed himself tightly against the back of the door, terrified that Bo Bingqian was going to strike him.
Coward.
I often visited the Bo residence, though I rarely crossed paths with Bo Bingqian.
Back then, I had heard that Bo Congnan was deathly afraid of Bo Bingqian.
Yet, at the very same time, he looked down on Bo Bingqian from the bottom of his heart, believing that he was merely a stepson with no blood relation, and that if not for his vixen of a mother, he would never have been able to cozy up to a wealthy heavyweight like the Bo family.
Bo Congnan feared him, yet he dreaded him.
As a result, he was constantly driven by the urge to strike back at Bo Bingqian, only to be frightened into inaction by Bo Bingqian every single time.
Bo Congnan was startled by Bo Bingqian's chuckle.
"You... ah..."
Bo Bingqian lifted his hand, and the door was pushed open.
Caught completely off guard, Bo Congnan lost his balance and fell straight backward, landing heavily on the floor.
Bo Bingqian stood by the doorway, lowering his gaze to coldly watch Bo Congnan, who was lying on the ground groaning in pain.
"Grandfather hasn't recovered yet. Unauthorized personnel should not come and disturb him."
With that, the heavy door closed gently behind him, as if Bo Congnan had never existed at all.
Enduring the pain in his backside, Bo Congnan scrambled up from the floor. Clenching his fists in fury, he roared loudly, "Second Brother, what on earth is your motive for stopping me from seeing Grandfather?!"
The room remained silent; Bo Bingqian had no intention of entertaining him whatsoever.
Seeing Bo Congnan get the short end of the stick put me in a much better mood.
Indeed, every creature has its nemesis, and someone like Bo Congnan needed someone like Bo Bingqian to keep him in line!
"Dad, you have no idea how arrogant that Bo Bingqian is. He actually... actually threw me right out the door, and now my ass hurts to death from the fall."
Lying facedown on the sofa, Bo Congnan's facial features were distorted in pain.
Seeing his good-for-nothing son acting this way, Bo Qindao shook his head helplessly. "You're a grown man throwing tantrums like this. With you acting like this, how could your grandfather ever hand the Bo Corporation over to you?"
Bo Congnan remained unconcerned. "I am Grandfather's own flesh and blood, we share the same blood. No matter what, the Bo Corporation should be handed over to our own family. That Bo Bingqian is merely a stepson. If it's handed to him, will the Bo Corporation even carry the Bo surname anymore?"
Bo Qindao couldn't help but laugh aloud. How on earth had he managed to father such a dull and foolish son?
"I heard that Bo Bingqian has been walking very close to several senior executives of the Bo Corporation recently, and he has secretly invested in several of the company's newly launched projects. I'm afraid he started plotting and planning long ago. And look at you—you can't even hold onto a wife. If you keep going like this, the position of the Bo Corporation's heir will sooner or later fall into Bo Bingqian's hands."
"What?!"
Bo Congnan had never expected that Bo Bingqian would start making moves merely a month after returning.
He was certainly in a rush.
"I knew he had ill intentions. Grandfather's stroke this time might even have been orchestrated by him. Xiangyi is such a steady person, how could she possibly anger Grandfather into having a stroke? Bo Bingqian definitely has something to do with this!"
Bo Qindao said in a deep voice, "If that's truly the case, then you need to take action immediately. Your grandfather dotes on Zhiyi the most; you must bring her back right away. Your new bride has been away from home for a month without returning—just how terrible does that sound to outsiders? Your grandfather will surely think you lack maturity and can't even handle your domestic affairs properly."
"Dad, don't worry. I'll fly to M Country tomorrow and bring Shen Zhiyi home immediately."
Bo Congnan's gaze was firmer than ever before.
If previously it was guilt that drove Bo Congnan to desperately want to fly to M Country and bring me home, now his singular focus was the position of the Bo Corporation's heir.
I looked at him indifferently.
Oh, Bo Congnan, Bo Congnan, we grew up together as childhood sweethearts, yet in your eyes, my life couldn't even compare to cold, hard power.
I was simply too naive back then, foolishly dreaming of spending a lifetime with you, only to realize in the end that it was nothing more than a delusion.
Unwilling to look at him any longer, I turned around and went to Bo Bingqian's side.
He was still keeping Grandfather company.
Holding a bowl of medicine, Bo Bingqian was spooning it into Grandfather's mouth one spoonful at a time.
As soon as Bo Congnan had entered the room, he had been too busy interrogating Bo Bingqian to spare a single word of concern for Grandfather throughout the entire exchange.
On the other hand, Bo Bingqian was remarkably attentive to Grandfather.
To be honest, this came as quite a surprise to me.
Who would have thought that the unapproachable, high-and-mighty figure from back then would turn out to be such an attentive and meticulous person behind closed doors?
After finishing feeding the medicine, Bo Bingqian stood up and returned the medical kit to the inner room. As he passed by the enshrined Buddha statue, his footsteps suddenly came to a halt.
For some reason, he always felt there was something wrong with the head of this Buddha statue.
