Meng Xiangyi paused as she stirred the porridge. "Congnan, don’t you like millet porridge?"
Hearing Meng Xiangyi’s voice, Bo Congnan stopped in his tracks, a look of distaste lingering on his face. His tone was one of surprise.
“Why is it you?”
Meng Xiangyi turned off the boiling millet porridge. “I heard from Aunt Wang that your stomach trouble flared up, so I came specially to check on you. Why do you look so unhappy? Don’t want to see me?”
Noticing the hint of grievance in Meng Xiangyi’s tone, Bo Congnan quickly replied, “It’s not that I don’t want to see you, it’s just… a bit unexpected.”
He had been expecting Shen Zhiyi, not her.
Meng Xiangyi pushed the millet porridge toward Bo Congnan. “Try it.”
Obediently, Bo Congnan took a spoonful.
“How is it?”
Bo Congnan looked at the bowl, noting that the porridge smelled similar to the one Shen Zhiyi made, but tasted quite different. He found it somewhat hard to get used to.
Still, he forced a smile. “Not bad.”
Meng Xiangyi showed a satisfied smile. “Good, then eat more.”
She patted Bo Congnan’s head. “You’re such a child. Even if Zhiyi isn’t here, you have to take care of your health.”
“And Zhiyi too—she’s been causing trouble, yet hasn’t come home. But luckily, your birthday is coming soon. She’ll definitely come back then. When that happens, don’t be angry like you were just now. You have to humor her. Girls like her are easy to coax.”
Bo Congnan lowered his head to drink the porridge. “I know. Xiangyi, if only she were as understanding as you.”
Sitting opposite Bo Congnan, I sneered coldly.
You really have the nerve to say that, Bo Congnan? Do you even deserve it?
After seeing Meng Xiangyi off, Bo Congnan stared at his phone screen.
He had sent me several messages, yet none had been answered, and his calls went unanswered as well.
It had been over two weeks since Shen Zhiyi had returned home.
Grandfather kept urging him. If Bo Congnan went alone to the welcome dinner this time, he had no idea how angry Grandfather would be.
Bo Congnan called his assistant, Li Shuo. “Find out where the madam likes to go.”
“Yes, sir.”
We grew up together, childhood sweethearts.
Before Meng Xiangyi returned home, Bo Congnan treasured me like a little sister.
He always remembered what I liked without needing reminders.
But now, when he wanted to find me, he couldn’t even figure out the places I usually went to.
Li Shuo’s efficiency was impressive.
He quickly found out my usual haunts.
Bo Congnan’s car slowly stopped in front of Little Bear Cooking Studio, the place I frequented most after our marriage registration.
I originally didn’t know how to cook.
Later, because Bo Congnan loved to eat and I suffered from insomnia and anxiety, I enrolled in this cooking studio to learn.

Cooking helped ease my anxiety.
The owner of this cooking studio was my college roommate.
We had a good relationship.
I confided many of my anxieties to her, including matters about Bo Congnan and Meng Xiangyi.
Therefore, when Feng Tiantian saw Bo Congnan get out of the car, she acted coldly, not even glancing his way.
Bo Congnan approached Feng Tiantian. “Zhiyi isn’t here?”
“No.”
Feng Tiantian was cleaning shrimp veins with swift, practiced movements.
Bo Congnan didn’t believe her. “Our marital issues are between us. Helping to hide her only makes things worse.”
In other words, Bo Congnan was certain Feng Tiantian was hiding me.
Feng Tiantian stopped her cleaning. “She’s not here. Zhiyi hasn’t been here for over a month.”
Bo Congnan frowned. “That can’t be.”
“Believe it or not.”
Still unconvinced, Bo Congnan searched every room in the cooking studio but found no trace of me.
Except for one room, which Feng Tiantian forbade him to enter.
“Is Shen Zhiyi hidden inside?” Bo Congnan glared coldly at Feng Tiantian, who blocked his way.
“I said no. Do you know it’s illegal to search rooms without permission?”
Bo Congnan yanked Feng Tiantian aside. “I knew you and Shen Zhiyi were in cahoots to deceive me! She’s definitely in there!”
Saying that, he kicked open the door.
Feng Tiantian, fed up with him, didn’t stop him and let him have a look.
Inside, the room was warmly decorated.
Colorful balloons hung in the air, and a gift box sat in the center.
On it was written “Happy Anniversary.”
Bo Congnan glanced around but saw no sign of me.
This was the anniversary surprise I had prepared six months in advance.
Because of various troubles and worsening relations with Bo Congnan, I hadn’t been very enthusiastic.
The decorations were done on and off.
I had hoped to use this to ease the tension between us, but on the anniversary day, Bo Congnan went to a seaside vacation with Meng Xiangyi.
I still couldn’t forget the photo of them together, his arm around her waist.
Thinking back to the joy I felt while decorating, I now felt foolish.
Bo Congnan slowly approached the dusty box, his expression complicated.
On the anniversary day, Shen Zhiyi had called him, saying she had something important to discuss.
He had thought she was going to quarrel with him again over Xiangyi, so he dismissed it with a random excuse.
It turned out the important matter was the anniversary.
He had completely forgotten that day was their anniversary.
Page 3/3
“This was carefully arranged by Zhiyi. She wanted to spend an undisturbed day just the two of you, but… you…”
Feng Tiantian seemed to remember me, her voice choked with emotion. “Do you know she waited here all afternoon that day? And where were you? With whom?”
I looked at him.
Bo Congnan, I never wanted to quarrel with you; I truly wanted to talk to you again.
About our future.
Bo Congnan said nothing, just looked quietly.
He couldn’t understand how he could have forgotten such an important day as their anniversary.
He should have remembered—it was just that Xiangyi said she didn’t want to go to the island alone, so he accompanied her.
Bo Congnan really hadn’t expected things to turn out this way.
Before leaving, he said to Feng Tiantian, “If Shen Zhiyi contacts you, please tell her: as long as she comes back obediently, I’ll let the past go.”
Even after all this, he still suspected me of conspiring with Feng Tiantian to stage a show for him.
Bo Congnan, what must happen for you to believe I’m truly gone?
On the way back, Bo Congnan called Lin Xunan.
Lin Xunan was my close friend.
Since I liked studying racing and he was an excellent racing engineer, he had a wealth of knowledge.
If I wasn’t at Little Bear Cooking Studio, it was very likely I went to find him.
But his answer was—
“You’re her husband, and you don’t even know where she is. How would we outsiders know?”
Lin Xunan was never gentle in his speech.
Bo Congnan hung up immediately.
He contacted several friends but still found no trace of me.
Bo Congnan pulled up the rescue message I had sent him on our wedding day, frowning slightly.
Could it be that Shen Zhiyi was really in danger?
The car stopped at the Shen family home.
Fang Lanru couldn’t believe it. “You’re planning to report to the police?”
Shen Yikang agreed. “It’s for the best. Zhiyi’s been gone so long; if something really happened, we wouldn’t even know.”
Fang Lanru disagreed. “Xiangyi just won the MB Championship. Getting involved in this kind of matter now would ruin her reputation. I think Zhiyi is purposely not coming home, just making us worry.”
Bo Congnan chose to report to the police partly because I hadn’t returned home for days and might be in danger, and partly because of Grandfather.
Grandfather was pressing hard; Bo Congnan couldn’t find me and couldn’t report back.
Better to let the police search—even if I was hiding, they could drag me out.
Meng Xiangyi, who had been silent for a long time, suddenly spoke up.
“Congnan, I support your decision to report to the police. But before you do, I hope you’ll look at this first and then decide.”
