Chapter 21: First Kill of the Spider Boss

The damage of a standard bow depends on the degree of draw; a full draw deals 9 points of damage, with a one-in-five chance to deal 10. This is the maximum damage a bow can inflict without enchantments.

Feeling the pain, the spider twisted its massive body frantically, shifting its target toward Yang Keli and Chen Fan. It crawled rapidly toward them, spraying sticky webs from its mouth. Chen Fan was alarmed; he quickly raised his shield to protect himself and Yang Keli. The webbing stuck to the shield, slowing Chen Fan down, but with a forceful jerk, he managed to shake off most of the sticky mess.

"Keep aiming for its eyes!"

Chen Fan drew his bow to its full capacity again. Seizing the moment, he fired several arrows in quick succession. Yang Keli did not lag behind, pulling her bowstring taut and firing arrow after arrow at the spider. Ram and Rem took the opportunity to flank the creature, thrusting their iron swords into its leg joints in an attempt to cripple it. Though its legs were repeatedly struck, causing it to stagger, the spider struggled tenaciously, lashing out with sharp claws in retaliation.

During the heat of the battle, Chen Fan noticed that every time the spider prepared to spray webbing, a bulge on its abdomen would swell and tremble slightly.

"Everyone, take note! When that bulge on its abdomen trembles, it's about to spray webbing. Watch out and dodge in advance!"

With Chen Fan's warning, the group successfully evaded the web attacks multiple times and gradually found their rhythm. They kept striking the spider, whittling its health down bit by bit. Suddenly, the spider leaped high into the air and pounced toward Ram. Ram was unable to dodge in time and had her arm gashed by the spider's claw.

"Sister!" Rem cried out in alarm, rushing over recklessly to block the spider's follow-up attack with her shield.

Seeing Ram injured, a surge of anger rose within Chen Fan. He dropped his bow, switched to his iron sword and shield, and charged at the spider. "I’m taking you down today!" he roared, engaging the creature in close-quarters combat.

Yang Keli quickly ran to Ram's side, took out a healing potion, and poured it over the wound. A miraculous scene followed: the gash on Ram's arm began to heal rapidly.

"You rest for a moment; we'll finish it off."

"I'm fine, keep attacking," Ram said, rising to charge at the spider once more.

Under the fierce assault of Chen Fan and his team, the spider finally showed signs of exhaustion. Its attacks grew less swift, and its eyes lost some of their luster.

Chen Fan seized the opportunity, leaped high, and thrust his iron sword deep into the spider’s head. The blade struck a vital spot. With a mournful howl, the spider’s wicked life came to an end. It dissolved into wisps of white vapor, leaving behind a pile of items and experience orbs on the ground.

The group let out a long sigh of relief; the battle was finally over. Chen Fan wiped the sweat from his forehead and walked over to Ram, asking with concern, "Ram, are you alright?"

Ram shook her head. "I am fine, Master."

Seeing that Ram was unhurt, Chen Fan went to inspect the loot dropped by the giant spider.

Elsewhere, Li Chengdong had found the two people who had fled earlier. They were taking shelter in a cave they had dug, and upon hearing the public announcement, his thoughts were in a whirl. The other two were dismissive.

"Chengdong, we can't just let what happened today slide."

"Exactly," the woman said while feeding her child. "We can't let Wu Hai die like that."

"That woman was so cruel, she started hacking at people without a word."

"Right, right. No girl should be that vicious; they should be at home tending to their husbands and children."

The more they spoke, the more agitated they became, wishing they could immediately go and kill Chen Fan and his group. Li Chengdong rolled his eyes at these two idiots, especially the woman—didn't she know that women could hold up half the sky?

"If you want to go, go ahead. I'm not doing it."

The man in glasses frowned, looking at Li Chengdong in disbelief. "What do you mean?"

"Mo Gang, Wang Youyou," Li Chengdong looked at them and sighed helplessly. "This isn't the Blue Star anymore. There is no law here, not even social norms. Murder, robbery—none of it breaks any laws. Do you understand?"

Mo Gang stared at Li Chengdong in disbelief. He couldn't believe that after witnessing Wu Hai’s death, Li Chengdong would say such things.

"Wu Hai is dead! Do you know that, Li Chengdong!"

"How can you say something like that?" Wang Youyou’s eyes welled with tears. "He was our friend."

Li Chengdong’s expression remained indifferent, his tone cold. "He deserved it."

Tears streaming down her face, Wang Youyou stood up, shook her head, and took two steps back. "You’ve changed, Li Chengdong. Back on the Blue Star, no matter what happened, you would always speak up for us. You’ve become so cold-blooded and heartless."

Crying, she picked up her child, turned, and left. She simply could not accept this version of Li Chengdong.

The remaining man, Mo Gang, looked grim. "Chengdong, is that really what you think?"

Li Chengdong lowered his head. "I don't care what you do, but I do not want to cross Chen Fan."

"!? Fine, I understand!" Mo Gang cupped his hands, his tone cold. "Brother Dong, we shall part ways here. You... take care of yourself!"

With that, he chased after the direction Wang Youyou had taken, his mind filled with complex thoughts. Watching his two former friends depart, Li Chengdong leaned against the wall and sighed. Ever since he met Chen Fan, he had wanted no further entanglements with these people. They simply did not understand the law of the jungle.

On the Blue Star, he could use his connections to protect them, but this was a cruel world of survival. If they didn't understand how to weigh pros and cons, they would eventually die in this unknown world. His only priority now was how to survive so he could return to the Blue Star.

Just then, a mechanical voice rang out:

Countless expletives raced through their minds. What was going on?

The world channel was buzzing with activity.

"I seriously suspect he’s cheating; he’s a bug in this world."

"How did he do it? The hundred zombies before, now this boss—where does he keep finding them?"

"Never mind the number of zombies, how did he handle this boss? Did he just tank it?"

While they were still worrying about finding food, Chen Fan had already started killing bosses. How were they supposed to play?

Li Chengdong’s eyes widened, and he stammered, "This... this, is Boss Chen Fan really that strong?" Hearing the broadcast, his heart felt like a rollercoaster, rising and falling in an instant.
